"[Hotel prioritizing profit over guest health] My sister was hospitalized a day before our reservation and could not make it to the trip. We explained the situation and provided proof to the hotel for the medical care she was receiving and requested a refund. Despite multiple attempts in negotiating and asking for an explanation, they denied any sort of consideration nor any reasoning and took the full payment anyways. The amount due was about $500 per person. I will never be using any facility by the Melia group."

"The hotel is beautiful. The food is excellent. We stayed in a VIP room and were quite disappointed as it was old and smelled strongly of damp. Neither the TV nor the jacuzzi worked; we reported it and they never fixed it. Another very important issue is the poor service for booking tables at the restaurants. They need to do something about it because the queues are endless. Perhaps using an app would be better."

"I really wanted to like this resort. We are Bonvoy loyalists and like to stay in hotels in the Marriott system. The service and the food was so inconsistent though. We booked Diamond Club, and I will say that our butler and other Diamond Club-specific staff were really great. Many of the other staff were not terribly friendly or helpful though. It’s a shame that the service offered is not consistent and based on how much money you put in. We stayed in a family room, which met our needs but had some drawbacks. First, there’s no chairs in the rooms, despite there being room for at least 2-3 throughout the room. Second, there needs to be a door at the opening of the bathroom area to create more spaces for privacy/changing. Third, the rooms are in desperate need of a really good deep cleaning and a coat of paint. The rooms just felt so unclean and dingy. Fourth, the walls are paper thin and folks who take advantage of unlimited drinks are really loud - not a good combination. We’ve stayed at other Royalton properties before and it seems they all follow a common theme of just being average, but charging above-average pricing. We’re going to need to try other resort options in the future. The food: the buffets were not great. Edible but cold food and not very tasty. Our butler was able to get us into all the sit-down restaurants for dinners and those are much better. Zen is the best one. Pool/beach: Splash is about a 15 minute walk from the beach and there’s a nice Diamond Club area at the beach with plenty of chairs. The pools on the Punta Cana side were very crowded but helpful bar service. We mostly stayed at the smaller Diamond Club pool at Splash where we were always able to find chairs. Once the bartenders/waiters know who you are (e.g., you’ve tipped well previously), they’re helpful and attentive. But not until you get a chance to tip. The Splash water park was fun, but we only went once. Not a good enough reason to stay there."

"The rooms were a bit old, and the sand and seaweed near the beach weren't suitable for snorkeling. Otherwise, everything was fine. Service and food were good. There were many restaurants to choose from, though the cuisine was Latin American, which might not suit everyone's taste. The staff were very welcoming and responsive. There were many families with children, and in the evenings there were live bands, a casino, and other entertainment options. Overall, it was a good experience."

"I got food poisoning and was sick for two days because of it. Housekeeping is simply awful! Whether I left a tip or not, absolutely nothing was cleaned. Instead, the lady helped herself to the drinks in my minibar."
