The Crown Inn

We book out all the rooms once a year for a friends get together and use the hotel occasionally during the year. This is one of the few 5 star AA approved guest houses in the UK and deservedly so. The rooms are excellent as is the food and the bar is extremely well kept. We have been using The Crown for more than 10 years and the standard has never dropped.

We went for dinner with friends. Knowing that the restaurant can get busy we had booked in advance. Everything about our dining experience at The Crown Inn was first class. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived and quickly shown to our table. Every member of the team was working hard to ensure their guests had a great time. The restaurant itself is a lovely room, well decorated and very clean. Service throughout the evening was fantastic. It was efficient, timely and always with a smile. The menu offers a good choice. The difficulty was deciding which of the enticing dishes to go for. Our food was absolutely outstanding, well presented, good size portions and very tasty. The bread deserves a special mention ……….. more please. We’ll be back. Please go and see for yourself, you’ll not be disappointed.

2 night stay for my wife visiting the area. Parking generally good but got packed during the evening due to the pub/ restaurant customers. One point of note for solo female travellers is that the site isn't manned at night and the mobile phone signal in the area (on O2 anyway) was non existent. Nice room. Nice breakfast.

We arrived at the attractive property at 5pm. We waited several minutes to be greeted because there was only one member of staff and she was serving behind the bar. She showed us to the lovely, large Elton bedroom. It was quite dark but I’d expect this in a thatched property. The bed was large and comfortable; the linen was okay but for £260 a night I would expect it to be better quality. The bathroom was very poor. A broken bath panel, mouldy grout and sealant, a filthy glass screen seal, frayed white towels which had a blue tinge. Not a £260 bathroom! The breakfast was very good and served in a sweet room off the bar. However the dinner, at £40pp extra, was average. I ordered crispy beef which wasn’t crispy at all and the duck was quite dry. When I mentioned it to the waitress all she said was ‘I’ll tell the chef’. I did try to speak to someone about our issues as we left, but I couldn’t find anyone. I had to leave the room key on a table. In total we paid £340 for two people for dinner, bed and breakfast in a small village, not in a very touristy place and to be honest, I felt ripped off.

The Sunday lunch was delicious and the staff polite and friendly. The dining area is very well presented. One of our group is diary free and the staff were very accommodating. The only point I would raise is a small choice of deserts but what there were was very small nice. We throughly enjoyed our time.

The room was really special, Care has obviously been taken to design the experience and as the room was super, so we're the team in the pub. Well done. I will be back.

We stayed overnight on a Monday for a quick break away. It was remarkable from start to finish. We had the Burghley room and it was fantastic from start to finish. The room was spacious with its own private courtyard garden. The staff were incredible and I couldn’t fault the stay. We will definitely be returning.

Really lovely Place. Nicely decorated rooms. Big and spacious with a very comfortable bed. Staff very friendly. Evening meal at the inn was delicious. A few minor issues. Inside of toilet was dirty on arrival and bathroom bin not emptied. Bath water didn’t get v hot. But in general a lovely place.

The staff went above and beyond to ensure our 35th anniversary meal was a special one. Beautiful table, a card, complementary Prosecco, the works.. Food was amazing, staff fantastic. Will be returning for sure. Heartfelt thanks to you all…
