We stayed at The Peninsula London for one night on 29 April. The hotel has only been open a few months, and it really showed in terms of how pristine everything is. We had a great arrival - welcoming check-in, offer of champagne from a very friendly lady while we checked-in, followed by a great tour of the features of the room. As a general comment, everyone at the hotel was extremely friendly and welcoming. The room was spacious, and extremely well designed and appointed. Beautiful bathroom. Spacious closet with a good-sized safe. We were in their entry-level room (Deluxe) and there it felt like a very good size with a comfortable seating area. Lovely amenity of chocolates in the room. Often in new hotels, the technology can be confusing, but the Peninsula has got it just right - very intuitive and easy to navigate. Most functions can be controlled using the room’s portable tablet. There are also various panels in the room. Couldn’t be better! We had breakfast in the lobby, which was delicious and generous - I particularly enjoyed the French toast! Service was excellent. We also had a drink at the bar on the top floor - again, a fantastic experience, with unique and special theming. We had the pool to ourselves, and it was exceptional - very large, a good temperature, stylish decor. We were even brought ice lollies, which was a great touch! There was one area for improvement I would mention. Our booking was made through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts. This qualifies us for a room upgrade. The upgrade is subject to availability on arrival, but we were there on a Monday which was showing plenty of room availability, including for the next room level up. We’ve stayed in many FHR hotels, and received some great upgrades. On the odd occasion, a hotel explains that it’s fully booked, so cannot offer an upgrade - which is fine. But at The Peninsula, although there was clearly availability, we were not upgraded, and were put in a room on the lowest floor at the back of the hotel. So I didn’t feel that the terms of the booking were met and would be interested to know why. When a hotel is not at capacity (especially a new one), I would’ve thought it would want to show off its best rooms. Other than that, an exceptional stay!

We came down from Cambridge to have breakfast. Several tables were empty, but the waitress said they were all accounted for. Poor service, zero honesty! We walked around the corner to the Mandarin Oriental where the service was delightful. Save yourself a disappointing experience by walking on by.
