This is a very distinctive homestay, the rooms are spacious and clean, the decoration is also very exquisite, the location is excellent, it is only a dozen minutes walk from the attractions and restaurants inside the city wall, the facilities are complete, there is an intelligent voice assistant, and it is very comfortable to stay. The front desk staff are very good, very proactive and enthusiastic, and the breakfast is also good, which is Datong's special knife-cut noodles and tofu powder. Spacious room, clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were more than adequate with a choice of varieties.
Hotel location was ok just outside the wall though neighbouring shops were all shuttered. Taxis plentiful and inexpensive.
Nightly dinner was at the hotel restaurant - good food, surprisingly very affordable prices and extremely good services from the staff.
What stood out most were the very helpful, cheerful staff, at the front desk, restaurants, and cleaners!

It's been a long time since I stayed in a homestay that provides such attentive service. The service is comparable to that of a five-star hotel. The homestay is located in a villa area and is not easy to find. However, before checking in, the lady will call and WeChat in advance to inform the location, and will also inquire in advance whether you are coming by high-speed rail or driving, and will provide pick-up and drop-off services. After checking in, there are welcome fruits and snacks. The lady also thoughtfully sends rose tea, and also provides breakfast (there is a menu for breakfast, you can choose your favorite) because we decided to stay in Datong for one more day at the last minute. By chance, we chose this homestay. Although the room is not very big, it is small but complete. The driver also picked us up to the high-speed rail station the next morning, which brought this trip to Datong to a successful conclusion. Next time I come to Datong for a trip, I must stay at your house for a few more days~

It's just across the street from Huayan Temple. Go there when it opens at 8am to avoid tour groups and large crowds. The room is large, and the upstairs is quiet, clean, and thoughtfully provides disposable bath towels and toilet seats, as well as body lotion and facial cleanser. The proprietress is kind and friendly. Datong is not cold at the end of October. Come and experience the charm of ancient buildings in Shanxi!
A small suggestion, it would be more convenient to install a full-length mirror behind the door.

After searching online for a long time, I finally chose Gujia Inn with a try-it-out mentality. I didn't expect to have unexpected gains. First of all, the location is excellent. It is located in the center of the ancient city. It takes a few minutes to walk to various attractions in the city, and the farthest is no more than ten minutes. Ancient buildings, four archways, Daiwang Mansion, Nine Dragon Wall, Huayan Temple, Shanhua Temple, pedestrian streets and other attractions are all around. Restaurants and various local snacks are only a few minutes away. I ate the millet jelly, siu mai, knife-cut noodles, rabbit head, jelly, etc. that I had been thinking about. In addition, the inn is clean and sanitary, the service is warm, and it is convenient to travel. This trip was a pleasant surprise!

My family (2 adults and 2 teenagers) stayed at 陆合景客栈 for 2 nights when we visited Datong.
The hotel was very beautiful, and the family room was excellent. The beds we comfortable, and the room was very well equipped with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The hotel was very nicely decorated to match the atmosphere of the ancient city.
I would like to especially give commendations to Ms 任红霞 and Mr 付强. Both of them provided exceptionally good service during our stay and made sure that all our questions and needs were fulfilled. They are exceptional staff of the hotel and I hope the hotel management rewards them for their hard work.
Highly recommend this hotel to anybody who is looking for accommodation in Datong ancient city.

Excellent. Done in the traditional hotel style but with very modern in-room amenities. Bathroom is clean and private, with nice shower including good quality—free flow—shampoo and bodywash, clean toilet and a proper door (no glass bathrooms here!). It’s so hard to find a hotel room like this these days. Most importantly, all the staff were totally amazing, and the manager is so friendly and keen to help and can speak some English which makes things all the easier. There are quite a few shaokao and noodle places around the hotel, and importantly, the snowman drink place (蜜雪冰城) is not too far away! The hotel is just a couple of Ks south of the most popular entrance to the amazing ancient wall (大同古城), and in the other direction, about five hundred metres to another nice park called Mingtan Park where I flew my new drone for the first time ever while a local man practiced perfectly his Taoist meditation completely undeterred by the annoying whirring sound of the drone! My only regret is not planning more than a single night here. There’s so much more to Datong than just the Yungang Grottoes and the Hengshan Hanging Temple (though they are both totally spectacular!), so stay a couple of nights at least if you can.

Wenda and all of her colleagues were wonderful! English is spoken here. Fantastic service, friendly, helpful, very clean and spacious rooms, really nice view over the river and at night with all of the lights. Breakfast is good, the facilities are clean and presentable. The room was quiet and the window can be opened if you want fresh air or to cool down the room a bit, the ac works too to cool it down in winter but that’s recirculated air with some people smoking in non-smoking rooms (typical). Our room did not smell which was great and although we had neighbours we could not hear them, so good for light sleepers. Only downside is the bed is firm. Quick 10 minute didi to the ancient city, malls, delicious lunch and food places. The hotel organised a driver to take us to the hanging temple, yungang grottoes and then to a delicious local restaurant very affordable, helpful, reliable and kind driver (WeChat: 永恒). Also recommend going to the art gallery and museum only 10 mins away. It’s a good location.

1. There are only disposable slippers in the house. You need to ask the front desk for bath slippers, and the little robot will bring them to you.
2. The bathroom lacks hooks or racks, so there is no place to put clothes and no bathrobes.
Advantages:
1. The staff's service attitude is very good, making people feel comfortable, and they also gave local souvenirs when they left.
2. The rooms in the newly opened hotel are quiet, tidy and clean. The home design is French romantic, the colors are soft and warm, there is a smart toilet, and the shower water is also very good, so you can take a shower with confidence.
3. Small drinks are provided in the refrigerator in the house.
4. The breakfast is clean, rich and tastes good. I especially praise the handsome guy who shaved noodles and his attentive service attitude.

GGuest UserI cannot rate Tangfang Courtyard more highly. I almost don't want to write a review and reveal it to more travellers! The photos are accurate of the elegant, beauty of this courtyard based hotel. The room was high ceilinged with wooden rafters, smart, elegant shower, bowls of fruit, spoiling bedding. It was bang in the centre of the old city, yet completely tranquil in a gorgeously authentic, but quiet street. We were greeted warmly and cosily by Yezi, who welcomed us with drinks and fruit, and really couldn't do enough for us. My son is fluent in Mandarin but I don't speak a word yet still, she was eager to help me make my dairy free coffee in the morning, quickly sorted us a great, appropriately priced driver and comfortable car to go to the hanging monastery and grottoes the next day. This is unique in that is in an authentic building, elegant, yet cosy family atmosphere with a kitchen/dining room where all guests eat round the same table. The last effort Yezi and her colleagues made was to source me some of the very striking vinegar jars unique to Datong at a moment's notice, the morning we were leaving. Bearing in the mind, this was done via Google Translate, I cannot thank you them all enough. They made our stay in Datong memorable, beyond the obvious wonders of the UNESCO sites. Thank you again to all at Tangfang Courtyard.

SSirikornNice place, Nice location; you can walk to the Ancient town, I took along time to catch nice scene along the city wall, park and canal. To get the hotel from Datong South Railway Station by bus no.31 from the bus station side(the area is connected), take around 30 minutes to get there (Yungang Jianguo hotel, the hotel is opposite, only 2 CNY, many food and minimart around there. There is Muslim food there if need(next to the entrance of C(behind the building). Nice service, self check-in, clean room and relaxing. the owner, you should to contact the owner before arrive, she so friendly and always help you, she suggested us about the famous local food and restaurants(Thank you so much). If you need to buy some necessary item and cannot buy at the around minimart, you can walk to the Yonghui Superstore by East side (the next junction) turn right to Yuhe West rd. (At the corner). From the hotel tobget Yungang Grottoes, you can take bus no. 31 (Yungang Jianguo side), get off at Shi Li Dian Cun Xi ( West Shilidian village), cross to another side and catch bus no.12 to the terminal stop(is Yungang Grottoes. Take 1 hour or 1.30 to get there.

GGuest UserI did enough research before coming here and saw this B&B. I called for consultation at nearly 10 o'clock in the evening and was extremely patient in explaining. After arriving, I was not disappointed. The two children loved it. The aunt would usually lock the door, so the children could Feel free to play in the yard. When we were about to arrive, we told the time. Auntie turned on the air conditioner in advance and prepared fruit tea, which was super heart-warming. Breakfast was also extremely rich every day, and it was very cozy for the whole family to sit in the yard and eat. This B&B is right next to the commercial street. You can go shopping when you go out, but you can't hear the noise when you are in the yard. It is very close to Zini and Longjutang. It can be reached in a few minutes on foot. At night, it is just a short walk away. You can go to the city wall, admire the lights, and ride a bicycle together as a family. Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple are also nearby and can be reached on foot. Finally, I must say that the aunties at the B&B are all super nice. They are very nice and kind in both morning and evening shifts. I will definitely recommend this to my friends and will stay here again next time.

The staff is modestly bilingual and attentive.
Good choices in Chinese restaurants about a 10 minute walk away.
Rooms are large and very clean.
Most western guests will find the internet access challenging.
The Yungang caves are a 20 minute taxi ride. Downtown’s temples are 10 minutes away.

AAirborn63The hotel is situated not far from the old walled town and equal distance to the shopping area. Formerly a Holiday Inn now independent.
The rooms are large and comfortable with good work desk and wifi. Comfortable bed gives good rest. The fridge had been removed but there is kettle and plenty of water, every day some fruit was delivered to the room which I appreciated.
Hotel has gym, swimming pool and two restaurant, given the price it was very good value for money and I would happily stay again.

GGeorgeI enjoyed my stay at this hotel. There is quite a bit to see around Lingqiu, and I should have stayed one extra night or two. Miss Liu (刘小姐), the front receptionist, was extremely helpful, even going all the way to accompany me to the bus stop to catch the bus heading to the Pingxingguan Battle site. Miss Liu also assisted with booking a cab for my visit to the Jueshan Pagoda. This famous Pagoda was founded before England was established by William the Conqueror (if I am wrong, then pardon me, but the Pagoda was built sometime before 1077 A.D. during the Northern Wei Dynasty). Miss Liu also directed me to the gravesite of King Wu of the Northern Wei Dynasty which is right in downtown Lingqiu.
There are numerous restaurants within walking distance of this hotel. One restaurant, next door to the right of the hotel, serves a wondering braised fish; the other a few doors away, sells delicious meat pies.
My room was professionally cleaned and serviced daily.
The hotel even allows me to doze off on the reception floor sofa to await my night train to Beijing.
I will return to this hotel if I return to Lingqiu.

GGuest UserThis hotel is really really beautiful - maybe even more than the photos show. Even though the style is traditional, everything inside the room is new, and there's even an elevator to take up bags. The location is amazing too, inside the old city wall, and I walked everywhere except the out of town attractions I visited. I think anywhere you stay in Datong you might have some communication challenges if you don't speak Chinese, but the owner here was very helpful once I put wechat on my phone to be able to talk with translation help, and he was able to arrange a last minute taxi out to the hanging temple after I had given up trying to get one. However, even though he was very helpful, he wasn't always around, and checking in was a bit difficult because there was nobody at the desk. I think this is only a problem if you don't speak Chinese though.
Unfortunately, the wifi didn't always reach to my room on the 3rd floor well, and I could only get a trickle of hot water out of the shower. Overall though, I was super happy with this place and would recommend it!

ZZeyichengsuoaiThe bosses are a pair of very kind old people. They are very kind and nice. The location of the hostel is quite good. Because of the good location, it is a bit noisy. However, if you come back tired from playing, you won’t feel it. The bedding is very clean and made by an old man. I washed it myself. I hope the owner can improve the environment of the hostel. This trip to Datong felt very good, but I was a little pressed for time. I hope to have the opportunity to revisit the beautiful Datong.
