Renyi Inn
"Ive just left the Inn and on the train to the next destination. I wish I could stay longer as this was such a pleasant stay. The boss lady was so nice. I booked just a basic room but got upgraded to almost a studio flat with separate bedroom in the mezzanine and lounge downstairs. Everytime I come back from sightseeing, all hot tired, the boss lady gave me a bowl of delicious melons. It was sweet and juicy. The best melons I have had. The second time she also gave me bananas. It was so much needed. The hotel is in the perfect location. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 1. From Datongnan station there are buses 608 or 61 which takes you directly to Huayansi stop, less than 1min from the hotel. However, the hotel frontage is a jewelry shop, I didn't know so ended up walking up/down the street for 10mins before the boss lady realised and came out to tell me I have arrived. 2. If you want to go to Yungang Grottoes. From the same bus stop take bus 38, then change to bus 3 to get to the Grottoes. Journey time about an hour in total. And cost 4RMB (2RMB per bus). However, you have to set up some kind of public travel app from Wechat to get the QR code to pay the bus fare. I didn't know this. Fortunately, some nice people helped pay my fare, then another lovely girl helped set up the app enabling me to use the bus from then as when I arrived and took the bus from the train station to hotel Wechatpay didn't work. Fortunately the driver let me ride for free as I guess he realised Im foreign and don't have this app. Only when I took the bus to Yungang Grottoes, the girl told me I need to set up the travel app etc and helped me set it up. 3. The hotel is also right opposite to the Huayan temple. A beautiful ancient temple. Deffo can't be missed. I will be uploading more photos and videos of my stay in Datong and travels in China on my YouTube channels once I'm back in UK. Check out my YouTube channels TheTravelDiary and goody2shoos for more information. Happy travels."
Deer Language Youth Hotel
"The room was clean and tidy, and the stay was quiet and comfortable. The front desk service was attentive, and it was convenient to find places to eat and get around. The facilities were complete, offering great value for money. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay."

Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion (Huayan Temple Branch, Datong Ancient Town)
"One of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at in China! We honestly didn’t expect to be this impressed. From the moment we arrived, everything was absolutely perfect. The hotel itself is incredibly beautiful and atmospheric. Every corner is thoughtfully designed, making it feel like you’re staying in a boutique museum rather than a hotel. The entire property is incredibly aesthetic, and every part of it is a perfect spot for beautiful photos. We stayed in a stunning two-level room, which completely exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, stylish, exceptionally comfortable, and spotlessly clean. Every little detail had been carefully considered. The location couldn’t be better—right in the heart of Datong Ancient Town. We could walk everywhere, with all the main attractions, restaurants, and beautiful streets just a few minutes away. The staff were some of the friendliest we’ve ever met. Everyone was genuinely welcoming, kind, and always happy to help, making us feel at home from the very first moment. Breakfast was also excellent. Instead of a buffet, a freshly prepared traditional Chinese breakfast was served each morning. It was delicious, beautifully presented, and the perfect start to the day. One of the nicest surprises was that guests can borrow traditional Chinese costumes free of charge for a photo shoot around the hotel. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough free time to try it ourselves, but it’s such a wonderful idea and gives us another reason to come back. We travel a lot and have stayed in countless hotels around the world, so it’s actually very difficult to surprise us. But this hotel genuinely did. If it were possible to give 100 stars instead of 5, we absolutely would. Even if we really wanted to find something to complain about, we honestly couldn’t. Everything was simply perfect. Without any doubt, this is one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. If we ever return to Datong, we won’t even consider staying anywhere else. We will definitely come back. Highly, highly recommended!"
Moshang Light Luxury Hotel (Datong Ancient City Huayan Temple Branch)
"Aside from the good location, everything else felt a bit disappointing, especially the breakfast which was far below the standard of other 4-star hotels. Overall, not a great experience!"
Tiangui International Hotel
"Good value for this luxurious hotel. Some distance however from the city centre."
Yungang Jianguo Hotel

Taoguang Inn (Daiwang Mansion Branch, Datong Ancient City)
"The owner is very nice and thoughtfully asks what you need every day. The accommodation is clean and hygienic, and the location is in the old town, with a great and quiet environment. I recommend it to everyone visiting Datong!"
Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale , Datong
"Given that it's a branded star-rated hotel, the ambiance and quality are, as expected, excellent, and the hygiene is top-notch. The breakfast spread is also very generous. The only downside is the absence of a gym. The price is also quite high, which might be due to the summer season."

Taihe Manor
Datong Jixiashan · SUNYATA Resort Hotel
"“Ji Xia Shan” (literally, “Below the Mountain”) is tucked away in a quiet corner of Datong's ancient city. Push open the courtyard gate, and the hustle and bustle instantly fade away. Green bricks, wooden structures, plain walls – colors are minimized, and tranquility is maximized. As night falls, another layer of light illuminates the courtyard. A fire-dancing artist moves with a 'fire pot,' a flick of their arms sending golden streams of fire streaking through the silent night. Sparks scatter between the eaves and the green bricks, flickering on and off like the unextinguished heartbeat of the sleeping ancient city. Silence and passion arrive simultaneously in this single courtyard. The room's window is understated. It doesn't rush to display a panoramic view; instead, it draws your eye to the layered rooftops, resembling distant mountains. And at this moment, through the window, the fire's reflection dances on the tea ceremony table. Ji Xia Shan doesn't create scenery. It simply filters out the noise for you, leaving behind the ancient city's true essence – and your true self. Checking in here is truly arriving."
Lihao International Hotel
"In the morning, I saw the sunrise over Hengshan Mountain from the 20th-floor buffet restaurant. In the evening, fireworks lit up the street outside my window. Enjoying a cup of coffee by the electronic bonfire at midday was the most pleasant moment. I spent an unforgettable Spring Festival holiday in Huai'ren, Shanxi. Thumbs up to Ms. Cheng at the front desk, Ms. Tang in room service, and Ms. Mulan in the breakfast restaurant for their meticulous and thoughtful service! 👍"
Gaodu Boutique Hotel
"very good"
youqing hotei
"This hotel didn't have any ratings yet, but I chose it based on a few glowing reviews. First off, there's parking right in front of the hotel, and if that's full, they have their own parking lot just across the road, and a friendly security guard will show you the way. The lobby has coffee, snacks, and even a kids' play area. Each floor is neatly stocked with bottled water for guests to grab whenever they like. I was amazed when I entered my room – it was huge! 👍 The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area, smart fixtures, and the TV was enormous – casting to it was a blast. The room was clean and tidy. There's a laundry room and a restaurant on the 2nd floor. For this price, getting all these amenities is definitely worth it! 😁 Now for the important part: the service. From the security guard and the front desk ladies to the maintenance guys, the housekeeping staff, and the restaurant workers – everyone greeted us with a smile and a friendly hello when we came and went. When you're traveling, who doesn't want to feel happy every day? 😍 The location is great too; it's convenient for all the attractions and there are plenty of delicious and affordable food options nearby. This is definitely my top choice hotel in Datong. I hope they keep up the good work, and I'll definitely recommend it to my friends! 💯"
Shangdu Hotel
Haohai International Hotel
"Air con is not working well, after they put fan inside room it was much better"
Garden Hotel
"Centrally located in the ancient city, right next to Gulou, and within walking distance to attractions like Jiulongbi, Huayan Temple, and Daiwangfu. Great food options like Longjuxiang are also nearby. It's so convenient to pop back to the hotel for a rest when you're tired before continuing your sightseeing. The hotel staff are all very polite and always greet you with a smile. The hotel is very clean, and the drinks in the mini-fridge are surprisingly affordable, even cheaper than outside! We specially tried the recommended Chinese restaurant, and the food was delicious, especially the ribs – so tender they practically melt in your mouth, absolutely amazing. I was very satisfied with this stay and hope the hotel continues to thrive."
Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Hotel (Datong Gucheng )
"The service was attentive and polite, and the price was affordable. It was a very good accommodation choice."
Radisson RED Datong
"Brand new hotel with spacious rooms, excellent service, and very decent breakfast (both Chinese and Western options). Location is a bit off, but it's a short drive to city centre. The studio room is very nice."
