Renyi Inn
"Ive just left the Inn and on the train to the next destination. I wish I could stay longer as this was such a pleasant stay. The boss lady was so nice. I booked just a basic room but got upgraded to almost a studio flat with separate bedroom in the mezzanine and lounge downstairs. Everytime I come back from sightseeing, all hot tired, the boss lady gave me a bowl of delicious melons. It was sweet and juicy. The best melons I have had. The second time she also gave me bananas. It was so much needed. The hotel is in the perfect location. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 1. From Datongnan station there are buses 608 or 61 which takes you directly to Huayansi stop, less than 1min from the hotel. However, the hotel frontage is a jewelry shop, I didn't know so ended up walking up/down the street for 10mins before the boss lady realised and came out to tell me I have arrived. 2. If you want to go to Yungang Grottoes. From the same bus stop take bus 38, then change to bus 3 to get to the Grottoes. Journey time about an hour in total. And cost 4RMB (2RMB per bus). However, you have to set up some kind of public travel app from Wechat to get the QR code to pay the bus fare. I didn't know this. Fortunately, some nice people helped pay my fare, then another lovely girl helped set up the app enabling me to use the bus from then as when I arrived and took the bus from the train station to hotel Wechatpay didn't work. Fortunately the driver let me ride for free as I guess he realised Im foreign and don't have this app. Only when I took the bus to Yungang Grottoes, the girl told me I need to set up the travel app etc and helped me set it up. 3. The hotel is also right opposite to the Huayan temple. A beautiful ancient temple. Deffo can't be missed. I will be uploading more photos and videos of my stay in Datong and travels in China on my YouTube channels once I'm back in UK. Check out my YouTube channels TheTravelDiary and goody2shoos for more information. Happy travels."
Deer Language Youth Hotel
"The room was clean and tidy, and the stay was quiet and comfortable. The front desk service was attentive, and it was convenient to find places to eat and get around. The facilities were complete, offering great value for money. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay."

Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion (Huayan Temple Branch, Datong Ancient Town)
"One of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at in China! We honestly didn’t expect to be this impressed. From the moment we arrived, everything was absolutely perfect. The hotel itself is incredibly beautiful and atmospheric. Every corner is thoughtfully designed, making it feel like you’re staying in a boutique museum rather than a hotel. The entire property is incredibly aesthetic, and every part of it is a perfect spot for beautiful photos. We stayed in a stunning two-level room, which completely exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, stylish, exceptionally comfortable, and spotlessly clean. Every little detail had been carefully considered. The location couldn’t be better—right in the heart of Datong Ancient Town. We could walk everywhere, with all the main attractions, restaurants, and beautiful streets just a few minutes away. The staff were some of the friendliest we’ve ever met. Everyone was genuinely welcoming, kind, and always happy to help, making us feel at home from the very first moment. Breakfast was also excellent. Instead of a buffet, a freshly prepared traditional Chinese breakfast was served each morning. It was delicious, beautifully presented, and the perfect start to the day. One of the nicest surprises was that guests can borrow traditional Chinese costumes free of charge for a photo shoot around the hotel. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough free time to try it ourselves, but it’s such a wonderful idea and gives us another reason to come back. We travel a lot and have stayed in countless hotels around the world, so it’s actually very difficult to surprise us. But this hotel genuinely did. If it were possible to give 100 stars instead of 5, we absolutely would. Even if we really wanted to find something to complain about, we honestly couldn’t. Everything was simply perfect. Without any doubt, this is one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. If we ever return to Datong, we won’t even consider staying anywhere else. We will definitely come back. Highly, highly recommended!"
Moshang Light Luxury Hotel (Datong Ancient City Huayan Temple Branch)
"No farewell gift upon checkout. The room felt smaller than its actual size, perhaps due to the layout. The location is great, very close to snack streets and several must-try restaurants nearby."
Tiangui International Hotel
"hotel front desk is not as friendly or welcoming. there were many burn marks on the carpet in my room (1318). the room still smells like smoke. the bathroom door could not be closed properly and the shower leaked into the bathroom floor."
Yungang Jianguo Hotel
A premier luxury hotel, located near the bustling city centre, recognised for its comprehensive five-star executive facilities, exquisite dining options, and highly attentive international guest service.
Taoguang Inn (Daiwang Mansion Branch, Datong Ancient City)
"The owner is very nice and thoughtfully asks what you need every day. The accommodation is clean and hygienic, and the location is in the old town, with a great and quiet environment. I recommend it to everyone visiting Datong!"
Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale , Datong
"Wyndham Grand Hotel Datong 1. The hotel's facilities are top-notch. 2. I experienced both the 'Forest Realm' and 'Memphis' room types, and both were absolutely perfect. The rooms are spacious, and the toiletries are L'Occitane. My children loved it so much that they didn't want to leave the room, preferring to play inside all day. 3. A special shout-out to the room attendant, Li Yuxi. She is incredibly kind and nice, and her work is meticulous and thoughtful. 4. The lobby staff were also very patient. Downsides: The breakfast was genuinely very crowded and quite chaotic. The restaurant staff, from the noodle station attendant to those handling dish collection, were frankly not professional enough. It felt completely out of sync with the service philosophy expected of a five-star hotel's software configuration. With so many diners, it was noisy and messy, almost like a free-for-all."

"The rooms are well-lit and each has its own unique layout, though there's no TV. The doors are quite heavy, which is interesting. 😄 The building materials are mostly natural stone, with varying textures from rough to smooth, creating a beautiful effect in the light and shadows. Breakfast was good; the pastries and breads were small and exquisite, allowing you to try a variety without feeling overly full. They also offered local specialties – I tried the Hunyuan cold noodles, which were refreshing and delicious! 😋"
Rui Feng Hotel
"The hotel's location is superb; it's the perfect choice for exploring the old city, with all the sights and great food nearby. The hotel is very clean, the restaurant food is delicious, and the staff provide excellent service. As I was traveling alone and wanted to try local specialties, the staff kindly reduced the portion sizes, which was great – tasty and no waste! The room facilities are new, but there's a minor issue: the sink and shower are in separate areas, and the bath towels are kept under the sink. This makes it inconvenient to grab a towel after showering. If you take it into the shower beforehand, there's nowhere to hang it. Perhaps a hook could be added?"

Yuncheng Hotel (Datong Yungang Wuyue Plaza Branch)
"I recently stayed at this hotel and was very satisfied with my overall experience. The hotel has a great location, close to the city center, making it very convenient for getting around. The room was clean and tidy, well-equipped, and the bed was comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. The hotel staff were friendly, attentive, and always ready to help guests with any problems. The breakfast was varied and delicious, leaving me energized for the day. Overall, this hotel excels in its location, facilities, and service. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again."
Blossom Land Yungang Grottoes Datong
"The hotel staff is very welcoming and the experience is very good. And the hotel provides free service to the ancient city. In particular, the hotel's semi-self-service morning tastes delicious."
Lihao International Hotel
"In the morning, I saw the sunrise over Hengshan Mountain from the 20th-floor buffet restaurant. In the evening, fireworks lit up the street outside my window. Enjoying a cup of coffee by the electronic bonfire at midday was the most pleasant moment. I spent an unforgettable Spring Festival holiday in Huai'ren, Shanxi. Thumbs up to Ms. Cheng at the front desk, Ms. Tang in room service, and Ms. Mulan in the breakfast restaurant for their meticulous and thoughtful service! 👍"
youqing hotei
"This hotel didn't have any ratings yet, but I chose it based on a few glowing reviews. First off, there's parking right in front of the hotel, and if that's full, they have their own parking lot just across the road, and a friendly security guard will show you the way. The lobby has coffee, snacks, and even a kids' play area. Each floor is neatly stocked with bottled water for guests to grab whenever they like. I was amazed when I entered my room – it was huge! 👍 The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area, smart fixtures, and the TV was enormous – casting to it was a blast. The room was clean and tidy. There's a laundry room and a restaurant on the 2nd floor. For this price, getting all these amenities is definitely worth it! 😁 Now for the important part: the service. From the security guard and the front desk ladies to the maintenance guys, the housekeeping staff, and the restaurant workers – everyone greeted us with a smile and a friendly hello when we came and went. When you're traveling, who doesn't want to feel happy every day? 😍 The location is great too; it's convenient for all the attractions and there are plenty of delicious and affordable food options nearby. This is definitely my top choice hotel in Datong. I hope they keep up the good work, and I'll definitely recommend it to my friends! 💯"
Yunting Hotel (Datong Ancient City Yingbin Street)
"The environment is excellent and quiet. The service was also very good the day before yesterday; they upgraded my room. It was clean and hygienic, and the facilities were all very good. I plan to stay at this hotel again during the summer vacation."
JinHuangQi Homestay (Huayan Temple in Datong Ancient City)
"The guesthouse is located in the pedestrian street of Southeast Yi, a quiet place in the bustling city. The interior design is a wabi-sabi style courtyard. All the staff are warm and helpful. The four rooms in the east, west, south, and north offer views of the central garden. There are also private hot springs and in-room massage services. After sightseeing, you can relax in your room with tea. It's a very pleasant stay."
Haohai International Hotel
"This hotel has probably been open for 20 years. I can understand the outdated facilities, but the lack of cleanliness is something I really can't accept. I can pretend I didn't see the watermarks on the faucets, but after taking a shower, the overhead shower head—it sprayed water in all directions except for me! The handheld shower head's fixed stand kept moving back and forth, and even at its highest setting, it only sprayed up to my shoulders. If I were 1.9 meters tall, I could tolerate it, but the problem is, I'm only 1.6 meters. So, the area above my shoulders is someone else's, not mine, right?! After showering, I thought about drying my hair, and when I opened the bag containing the hairdryer, it was full of clumps of long hair—clearly, the previous guest hadn't checked it at all… As for photos, I don't have any; I didn't even want to take a picture! The hotel breakfast, for a restaurant that's considered somewhat reputable in Datong, was terrible—the knife-cut noodles were all machine-made, just bought ready-made, and there wasn't even a noodle-making chef! I'm speechless! I definitely won't stay there again!"
Garden Hotel
"The rooms were comfortable, and the service was excellent. The breakfast was delicious and had a great variety. The restaurant on the second floor of the hotel was so good that my family and I ate there for two days straight. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Datong."
Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Hotel (Datong Gucheng )
"The hotel's location is easy to find, and there are great restaurants nearby like Hongya, Kaige, and Beiwei Jiayan, so you don't have to wait for a table in the old town. The room was clean, the bedding was comfortable, and the service was thoughtful and enthusiastic. Highly recommended!"
Radisson RED Datong
"The hotel environment is excellent, and the design is very sophisticated. The bed in the room is also very comfortable. We stayed for two days and received complimentary breakfast and cocktail vouchers. The service attitude was also exceptionally good, and the front desk staff was very gentle and kind. 😊 We'll definitely come back again!"
