Guest UserThis guesthouse in Datong is an absolute gem! The room is huge, so spacious for our family of four. It's incredibly clean, and all the facilities are brand new. The kids absolutely loved soaking in the bathtub. Breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented, starting our day off with a great mood. The owner is super nice and accommodating, always happy to help, and very pet-friendly. All the staff members were smiling throughout our stay. I highly, highly recommend staying here!

Facilities: The design is excellent, and all the amenities are thoughtfully arranged and very practical. The bed and pillows are incredibly comfortable; lying down felt so therapeutic, and I fell asleep almost instantly.
Hygiene: The hygiene was impeccable.
Environment: The location is perfect, within walking distance of Daiwang Mansion, Drum Tower, and Huayan Temple. After watching the iron flower performance at night, it was just a short stroll back to bed.
Service: The service was incredibly attentive and prompt. The butler recommended many delicious local eateries, and they were all indeed fantastic. The tea at the front desk was also delightful; I'd fill my thermos every time I went out – it was so comforting. They even offered a thoughtful bedtime gift, making the overall experience incredibly pleasant.

Guest UserDatong, the ancient city of Shanxi, welcomed me for three days out of my eight-day journey through the province. From the airport pickup and morning meals to the comfortable accommodation and car rentals, the hotel truly embodied the warmth and sense of belonging captured by the phrase 'Datong under heaven, one harmonious family.' The owner personally picked me up, and she was wonderful—elegant, cheerful, and incredibly welcoming. The room she arranged was clean, tidy, bright, and peaceful, making for a truly comfortable and relaxing stay. The breakfast options were perfect for a Cantonese palate, and they even had coffee available, which was a thoughtful touch.

Julz d’traveller*The staff are nice to accomodate us.
*The place is close to the scenic spot (few minutes by car).
*The breakfast is not too bad. Few choices but it will fill you up.No drinks (juice or coffee).
*The accomodation was nice to drop and pick us up at the scenic area. They dropped us off to the bus station going to Datong city.
*Problem was the bad odour coming from the toilet. We think it’s from the drainage. We can’t even open the door for few minutes for air to come in because it is freezing. It’s negative degrees.
*The room was nice and comfortable. I can’t find photos or video of the interior. The size of the room is perfect. It has a long bench.Table with 1 small chair.Tv, closet, slippers, toothbrush, hair dryer, kettle and 2 bottle of water.
*Last picture was epic:)

The host was very nice, understanding our needs in advance and personally picking us up from the parking lot to help with our luggage. The room was clean and hygienic, the bathroom was very large, and the toiletries were of good quality. The guesthouse is located in a residential area with antique-style buildings, mostly run by guesthouses; currently, parking is available on the roadside outside the complex. There are many restaurants nearby, but getting breakfast isn't very convenient. The old town center is about 1.6 kilometers from the guesthouse.

We had a wonderful stay at 花筑·演真居四合院 (Datong Ancient City Drum Tower Hotel). From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly staff member who went out of his way to provide us with excellent tips on nearby restaurants, which enhanced our dining experience.
The room itself was spacious and warm, offering a cozy retreat after exploring the city. One of the highlights was the beautiful courtyard, which provided a serene atmosphere to relax and unwind. The location is perfect, situated right in the heart of the Ancient City, making it easy to access local attractions.
Overall, our experience was fantastic, and we highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Datong. It truly made our trip memorable!

Anonymous UserI was literally in tears, it was my first time sleeping with underfloor heating. I even turned on my electric blanket at home afterwards, but it's just not the same. No static electricity, and it's a vibrant, living kind of warmth, unlike the dry, lifeless heat of an electric blanket. The hotel itself is stunning, with French-style ceilings that took my breath away – seriously, trust a coal boss's taste! The owner even upgraded me for free to a room with a big window. It faced a school, though, and seeing them having classes late at night made me nostalgic for my own school days – what a tough life! I ordered some kind of purple clay dish, and the 'guoyourou' (sautéed sliced pork) was absolutely to die for.

Nice hotel in the old town of Datong. One of the few places where you can stay in the old town! It’s a quiet place around the corner of a busy street. The staff is very friendly.
Tip: book your didi to the drum tower as cars are forbidden in most of the old town. Only a short walk from the drum tower.

Guest UserThis hotel is really really beautiful - maybe even more than the photos show. Even though the style is traditional, everything inside the room is new, and there's even an elevator to take up bags. The location is amazing too, inside the old city wall, and I walked everywhere except the out of town attractions I visited. I think anywhere you stay in Datong you might have some communication challenges if you don't speak Chinese, but the owner here was very helpful once I put wechat on my phone to be able to talk with translation help, and he was able to arrange a last minute taxi out to the hanging temple after I had given up trying to get one. However, even though he was very helpful, he wasn't always around, and checking in was a bit difficult because there was nobody at the desk. I think this is only a problem if you don't speak Chinese though.
Unfortunately, the wifi didn't always reach to my room on the 3rd floor well, and I could only get a trickle of hot water out of the shower. Overall though, I was super happy with this place and would recommend it!

Guest UserAjummah at the front desk is very accommodating. I arrived at 6:30am and they were able to provide me a room at 8am. Very close to the railway station. The downside is room smells tobacco. The common bathroom is extremely dirty and smells like urine. There were even poop left is there without flashing down. I had to go up to the 3rd floor and use the bathroom there instead of the one in our floor.
No towels, toiletries, slippers, hair dryer. If you just need a day to rest that is near the railways station, you can book this, otherwise look for other hotels in the area.
