DDafeieThe room was great, and the underfloor heating kept it very warm. The courtyard (siheyuan) is absolutely beautiful. The underground parking was also very convenient. The service was excellent. I didn't use my car for two days, so leaving wasn't the smoothest. I had to rush to Yungang Grottoes and left before 7 AM, getting a bit delayed at the entrance. The parking fee was 100 RMB (even though there was a free parking voucher, it didn't link successfully), but the owner paid it for me. This is a very responsible establishment, and both the owner and the housekeeper are wonderful. The location is super convenient, and the breakfast is incredibly delicious. Many thanks!

SSB888The hotel is located close to a lively area, making it very convenient to explore nearby shops and restaurants. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. They kindly picked us up at the railway station and helped us arrange a car rental to visit Xuankong Temple, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, and the Yungang Grottoes. The breakfast was also delicious and a great way to start the day. Their hospitality and assistance made our trip much easier and more enjoyable.

The staff (specifically, a young lady) was very welcoming and even thoughtfully prepared breakfast for us. Five-star recommendation!

GGuest UserThe location of the hotel is good, easy access from main road to get big bags to it and also to go around the ancient city both during day and night time to enjoy all the landmarks. Missing signages make it a bit difficult to find the hotel at first. Also, while we had paid for a bigger rooms the room barely had walking space. It had no luggage storage space or cabinet. The washroom and room floor was not cleaned. Staff on the other hand are very friendly and willing to help with all the questions - on local travel, places to see, vegetarian food, etc. They find a way to help to the best. All in all was a good experience and would have been better with some adjustments.

It's really close to the city walls and Kuidxng Tower, and you can walk to Huayan Temple in about ten minutes – super convenient. They have underground parking with charging stations too. The decor is very tasteful, and since it gets quite dry in winter, every room has a humidifier. The pear soup at the front desk was especially delicious. The breakfast spread is quite good, all homemade by the hostess, especially the knife-cut noodles – they're just as good as any noodle shop outside, absolutely delicious. I'll definitely be back next year if I get the chance!

Guandi Temple's entrance is literally on your doorstep, and during the Spring Festival, performances are held on its east side. This makes exploring and dining out incredibly convenient. The independent courtyard offers a beautiful and tranquil environment, complemented by attentive and warm service. With breakfast included, I highly recommend this place for your stay.

MMethilanI spent nearly a week at Datong Milan/Magnolia Hotel (Dai Residence branch) and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay Location: - Nestled a quieter part of the ancient city, that provided a peaceful retreat after each day of exploring. - 10 minutes to some of the attractions of the old town - 15-20 minute walk to the popular restaurants and more attractions - 30 minute walk to Huayan Temple and its nearby street markets. I'm always happy to walk but if needed, I could always use DiDi to take me around. Falling asleep without street noise is something I like. There is a bit of building work going nearby, which is happening all over Datong Ancient City, but nothing too major. Nearby is the Ancient City's wall, but walk past that and you can see the locals dance in the morning in the park or walk along the canal/moat in the evening. Room: The room was surprisingly spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax, a welcome change from cramped city accommodations. The staircase is a bit narrow, so those with lots of big luggage might struggle (no lift) Importantly, it was very clean and well equipped. I especially liked the Chinese tea ceremony set! Service: - Despite a noticeable language barrier, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, helpful gestures, and clear efforts to communicate. - Especially the manager, who told me about local food to try, things to do and asked if I needed anything. She noticed that I was bringing back leftovers from the restaurant, and bottled drinks from the shops, and said I could use the fridge. - I can't speak Chinese so when the delivery driver came to drop off my order, the staff will take it from the reception and bring it to me. - Unfortunately, breakfast isn't available here - Drinking water topped up. Humidifier and mosquito repellent were provided when needed. I will not hesitate to book here again on my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and genuine warmth in Datong!

JJames56We had a happy experience checking in at this hotel. The receptionist was very pleasant and helpful. We loved our room! It was bright and cheerful and spacious. The shower and drainage was very good. Location is fantastic, near the railway station and many bus services, especially for going to Yungang grottoes. There was a mall, with a hypermarket in the basement and minimarts around. What we like most was there was a washing machine and dryer for guests to use, free of charge! If we ever come to Datong again, we would stay here. Highly recommend this place!

It is no problem for a family of three to stay in a big bed. The bathroom is separated into dry and wet areas. The breakfast is also very good. Overall, it is very cost-effective.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, checking us in quickly and even upgrading us to the best available room. To our surprise, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome that included a fresh fruit basket, traditional Chinese soup, and complimentary tea. The hotel offers an impressive breakfast selection, catering to both local and international tastes. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds are incredibly comfortable—making it easy to unwind after a day of sightseeing. This was my second time staying at the Great Palace Hotel, and once again, it exceeded expectations. Its location is ideal—right in the heart of the city, close to all major tourist attractions and just a few kilometers from the train station. Special thanks to Manager 崔经理, who was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Datong. What truly sets this hotel apart is the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality of the staff. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning guest, the service remains consistently high.
