4-Star Hotels in Datong

The B&B here offers excellent service, including complimentary airport or train station pickup, which is incredibly convenient and provides a seamless, one-stop check-in experience. The room itself is quite spacious, very clean, and bright, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows that let in plenty of sunlight. The only drawback is that if there are people in the courtyard, you have to close all the curtains, otherwise they can easily see directly into your room. The bathroom and toilet are separate, which is great for privacy. The vanity area is also very large; it would be even better if there were two sinks. The toiletries are L'Occitane, and they also provide a Dyson hairdryer and a smart toilet. All the amenities are top-notch. On the first day, there were welcome fruits and nuts. You can make tea, but there was no tea infuser, so I ended up just putting the tea leaves directly into the teapot. Perhaps not many guests actually brew tea. The room's soundproofing is fine at night, but in the morning, if people are in the courtyard, you can hear some noise coming in. The owner is very hospitable, and the front desk girl is very nice!

This is the third time my family and I have visited Datong. The first two times we stayed in hotels, but this time we wanted to try a guesthouse. After checking reviews on Dazhong Dianping, we chose Bo.Yuan Guesthouse (Huayan Temple Branch) because of the traveler comments and its 4.9 high rating. The experience was excellent, so I wanted to share my review. The day before our trip, the guesthouse manager proactively called us to discuss our itinerary in Datong and our mode of transportation. She also offered a pick-up service, so we provided our travel details. Before we arrived at Datong South Station, a lady called to confirm the pick-up time and location, and informed us of her arrival time. When we got to the waiting area, we waited for about two minutes. The guesthouse lady called again, repeatedly apologizing for being two minutes late. She reconfirmed our waiting spot and described what she was wearing so we wouldn't miss her. When we met her, she didn't look like a typical pick-up driver, but rather a very elegant and young lady. She greeted my family and me warmly, saying, ”I'm so sorry for being two minutes late. The hotel is quite busy today, and the regular pick-up driver couldn't make it. After they told me, I rushed over to pick you up myself. Our hotel values integrity, and since we promised a pick-up service, even if there was no available car, I couldn't use a ride-hailing app. So, I truly apologize for being a few minutes late.” From this conversation, we learned that she was the female owner of the guesthouse. Throughout the journey, she was very talkative and friendly, making us feel completely at ease. She introduced us to the guesthouse and the unique features of Datong, and soon we arrived at the guesthouse. We chatted a lot with her during the short half-hour drive—perhaps it was fate. **1. Guesthouse Environment and Service:** Upon arriving at the guesthouse courtyard, we found it to be a very distinctive Siheyuan (quadrangle courtyard). The staff were all very enthusiastic, proactively helping us with our luggage and offering us tea. Since we arrived before check-in time, our room was still being cleaned. To minimize our waiting time, the owner personally urged the cleaning staff to finish quickly. She also used the waiting time to introduce us to the guesthouse's room features and restaurant. Once the room was ready, our room was on the second floor. The staff proactively helped us take our luggage up and turned on the air conditioning. Inside the room, it felt wonderful. Although the room retained the ancient charm of a Siheyuan, the infrastructure was very modern and high-tech, featuring central air conditioning, button-controlled panels, a projector instead of a TV, and an electric toilet. The hotel amenities also catered thoughtfully to modern women, such as essential oils in the toiletries, and provided toilet seat covers, disinfectant wipes, and wet wipes. Additionally, the welcome fruit quality was excellent; the owner mentioned she personally selected and purchased everything herself. The room was very quiet. I usually have trouble sleeping, but this time, I didn't experience insomnia due to changing locations. Instead, I slept exceptionally well because of the tranquil courtyard. **2. Guesthouse Breakfast:** From the room to the restaurant, every staff member we encountered greeted us warmly. In the restaurant, the staff proactively introduced the breakfast options and asked if we needed any help. The breakfast selection was very rich, combining Western and Chinese dishes to satisfy every guest's palate. There was vegetable salad, fruit platters, coffee, milk, yogurt, sausages, grilled chicken wings, stir-fried baby cabbage, bread, sweet potatoes, corn, purple rice paste, knife-cut noodles, wontons, and dumplings. The ingredients for these dishes were all personally selected and purchased by the owner, ensuring their freshness. All dishes were freshly prepared by the chef and tasted excellent. Although the restaurant might not be as large or offer as many varieties as four or five-star hotels, the quality of ingredients and taste were certainly on par with their culinary standards. Escaping the hustle and bustle of the big city for a weekend in Datong, our short two-day trip is coming to an end. The cultural heritage of Datong, its unique cuisine, and our stay at Bo.Yuan Guesthouse have all left a wonderful impression on me. Next time I visit Datong, I will definitely choose Bo.Yuan Guesthouse again. I wish the owner great success in her business! See you next time, Datong!

I highly recommend Huazhu Lan Zhu Ting. The environment is lovely, offering a peaceful escape while still being centrally located. It's within a ten-minute walk of many attractions and incredibly convenient for transportation. The Datong scenic shuttle bus station and the ancient city entrance are less than a ten-minute walk away. The breakfast served at the hotel is also exquisite. The staff are wonderful, both beautiful and kind-hearted, providing excellent service. The day before my arrival, the front desk contacted me regarding airport pick-up and informed me about the weather. The pick-up driver, and especially the manager Wang Xiaowei, were incredibly attentive and made me feel very welcome. (On my first morning, I had to catch a scenic shuttle bus, and the manager, worried I wouldn't find the station, took the time to drive us there. When we checked out, he was concerned about our heavy luggage and specially came to help us carry it. My heartfelt thanks again!) My trip to Datong was unfortunately rushed, but on my next visit, I'll definitely choose Huazhu Lan Zhu Ting again.

A relaxing, slow-paced trip! The room was spacious and cozy. The front desk ladies were enthusiastic, lively, beautiful, and thoughtful fairies. It was also very convenient for late-night snacks and ordering takeout – the delivery driver provided excellent and thorough service. I'm looking forward to my next stay! The laundry and drying facilities were very convenient. It's right across from Daiwang Mansion, so after exploring from the South Gate, it was super easy to head back for a good night's sleep.

The best stay I’ve ever had in my entire life — and trust me, I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels and B&Bs. ;) The rooms are gorgeous, spotless, and super comfortable, with great attention to detail — everything I could possibly need (and more!) was provided. The bathroom even had a Dyson hair dryer, a Kohler heated automatic toilet, and a Hansgrohe faucet! If you’re not familiar with these brands, just know they’re the best you can get. The location is convenient for reaching downtown Datong and various points of interest… but honestly, these technical aspects — which alone would already deserve a 10-star rating — pale in comparison to the warmth and kindness we received from the B&B owners. My friends and I truly felt at home, pampered by Ben, the guy who runs the place with such care and attention to his guests that I’ve never experienced anywhere else (not even in 5-star hotels!). He and his sister picked us up at the station — both speak excellent English (which is not something you can take for granted in China) — and they recommended amazing local restaurants, must-see attractions, and even welcomed us with a lovely gift package of local specialties. For breakfast, Ben’s mother prepared a rich and delicious traditional meal, and for our train trip she even packed homemade bread for us to take along! Datong is a charming city, and if you visit, you absolutely have to stay here!!!

This guesthouse is located right inside the ancient city, which is a great spot. It's really close to the city walls and Kuidxng Tower, and you can walk to Huayan Temple in about ten minutes – super convenient. They have underground parking with charging stations too. The decor is very tasteful, and since it gets quite dry in winter, every room has a humidifier. The pear soup at the front desk was especially delicious. The breakfast spread is quite good, all homemade by the hostess, especially the knife-cut noodles – they're just as good as any noodle shop outside, absolutely delicious. I'll definitely be back next year if I get the chance!

We took a 23-day trip through China, staying in 9 different hotels. Without hesitation, I can say that our stay at Floral stood out in many ways. First, the hotel's structure is very beautiful and has been renovated while staying true to the traditional style of the region. The hotel room itself was probably the most beautiful we had seen on our entire trip: spacious, with windows that actually opened, good air conditioning, and modern decor and furniture without being over the top. Second, the hotel's location is within the boundaries of the city wall and is part of the old town, so beautiful to walk around and see the traditional houses - many of them renovated according to the traditional style. And third and most importantly, the kindness of the people who work at the hotel. I have never felt so welcome anywhere on holiday as at this place. Unfortunately, I arrived with health problems and needed antibiotics - equivalents of the ones I had brought from Europe. I asked the reception where I could find the closest pharmacy, but rather than guiding me there, Xiao Liu, the lady at the reception, figured out for me which antibiotic would be the right one and got it for me. The same when we needed a suitcase, rather than sending me to the shop she inquired about our desired suitcase and in one hour it was there. Drinks are complementary at any time of the day, and the breakfast (Chinese and international - sandwiches) was generous and unlimited. When we were running late coming back from the grottoes and needed to catch a train, Xiao Liu helped us out by bringing us all our suitcases directly to the train station. We will never forget all these acts of kindness and we are still grateful to her and the entire hotel staff for making us feel so much at home. Datong will stay in our minds and hearts forever thanks to the people of the Floral hotel. Datong is special enough for all the incredible cultural sights you can visit - but our stay there will never be forgotten thanks to the beauty of the Floral Hotel and its amazing people. Before my check-in, i received messages from the hotel to make sure I have a smooth journey to reach their place. And from the moment I stepped in, I felt the warm and they eagerness to help me should I have any issues or request. I even got a free upgrade to a better room, delicious breakfast was packed for me when I have to get up early for sightseeing purpose. Location wise, car can only stop at somewhere nearby, but is a short distance and an easy road to walk. Overall I think this is a perfect stay for me, the only regret, I wish I can stay longer instead of only 2 nights.

The hot spring hotel has been awesome. The room is very big, super clean and bright enough in areas like the bathroom. It is warm enough even in winter due to the underfloor heating,, so I have to turn off the room air con heating. The hotel front desk team is even more awesome. They are always ready to help with all kinds of queries and needs. When we were leaving, they even gave us a bottle of local vinegar as a gift. The hot spring is not located inside the hotel like the Japanese onsen. It is a couple of hundred meters away, but the hotel provided an electric buggy to ferry you to and fro. The hot spring area itself has a changing room, where you can out on the bathrobe before you step out in the open and into the hot spring. So even in winter, it is still manageable and you should not catch a cold. Some regular hot spring users even put on their down feather jacket over the bathrobe, and that surely is more effective. There are even security personnel at the hot spring to make sure there is help if you get into difficulties. Breakfast is also good. The hotel also uses the buggy to fetch you to a posh looking restaurant in the hotel vicinity. Food is good, and not too expensive. There is also a small retail outlet next to the restaurant. The prices there are very reasonable.

Datong Wangfu Zhizun Hotel definitely deserves five stars! The location is superb, close to the ancient city and convenient for getting around. The room was super spacious, clean, tidy, and the bedding was comfortable. The service was warm and attentive, and the front desk was efficient. The breakfast was plentiful, with local specialties like lamb offal soup and knife-cut noodles. Free underground parking was also very convenient. Overall, it offers great value for money. This is my top choice when visiting Datong!
