A very cozy and comfortable B&B, located right in the ancient town's pedestrian street, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling area. The courtyard is spacious, the rooms are clean, and all amenities are of high quality. Breakfast is plentiful, and the staff are friendly. The location is excellent, with all of the ancient town's attractions within walking distance, which is great when traveling with kids as it saves a lot of hassle. Plus, many popular restaurants often have long queues, but because this place is so close, you can easily grab takeout and enjoy your meal back at the hotel, saving a lot of waiting time. I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit Datong.

This was the only hotel in Shanxi that proactively called us before our trip (proactive service is essential and leaves a good impression on guests). They also offer airport pick-up/drop-off, which was arranged in advance and very thoughtful. They even set up a chat group for communication, which was timely and effective. The guesthouse is located right in Dongnan Yi, making it very convenient to get around and saving a lot of travel time. The breakfast every morning was substantial; my friends even joked it was like a confinement meal, very nourishing, haha. The amenities in the room were also from brands favored by high-end guesthouses nowadays~

I was drawn by the hotel's design and made a special trip to check it out. I booked the 'Elegant Residence Package' and was upgraded to the 'Daijunyi Courtyard' upon check-in. The courtyard was rustic and quiet, with a mini garden, and the interior decor was understated yet elegant. VOSS water was supplied unlimited daily, and I really liked the complimentary amenity kit. Welcome fruits were delivered to the room at 2 PM, and the fruit and nuts varied each day, which was a nice touch and added a sense of surprise. Turndown service was around 6 or 7 PM. At 4 PM, I had afternoon tea at the Yingguang Restaurant. It was a semi-buffet with an à la carte option. The champagne and tea were excellent, and refills were unlimited. The small cakes were a bit bland, and I didn't try the main courses. Afterwards, I went to Phase 1 for a photoshoot. Phase 2 isn't far from Phase 1, but the butler still recommended taking the shuttle. The photographer was very familiar with the best spots and even gave a brief introduction to the hotel. The public areas are indeed beautiful and very well-designed, especially in Phase 1, which offers many picturesque angles and is great for photos. The lounge on the second floor offers views of the Datong ancient city wall. The gym, pool, and children's play area are all in Phase 1. The children's play area offers three craft options before 5 PM. The gym and pool aren't very large, but they're great for photos. Phase 2 consists of independent courtyards, with only one public courtyard and the Yingguang Restaurant, but it's also very photogenic. Phase 2 is relatively quieter and all the buildings are historical. It's definitely worth visiting if you like the Siheyuan (quadrangle courtyard) style. The much-anticipated breakfast was also a semi-buffet with à la carte options, and I couldn't resist ordering a whole table of dishes. I highly recommend the 'Dao Xiao Mian' (knife-sliced noodles) and the steak. Although the steak portion was small, it was delicious. The selection of dishes wasn't extensive, but they all tasted good, and the quality of the fruit and ingredients was excellent. The butler team was incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, providing thoughtful and attentive service. Every staff member was outstanding. After check-out, they even gave us a souvenir. As my luggage was heavy, they specially arranged a shuttle to take me to Fenglin Pavilion, and the driver even helped load my luggage into the car. Such attentive service made me feel respected and comfortable throughout the entire process, making the price itself seem less important.

Staying at Pingchengfu truly makes you feel like you're living within the very fabric of Datong. The location is superb, right in the Southeast City Historical and Cultural District. Step outside and you're greeted by the vibrant street life of ancient brick and tile alleyways. Just a short walk takes you to the Drum Tower and Shanhua Temple. Strolling through the ancient city at night, feeling the breeze of the Northern Wei Dynasty – that immersive experience is something chain hotels simply can't offer. This guesthouse is a renovated old courtyard, retaining the authentic charm of Northern Shanxi residences while offering modern and comfortable interiors. Smart toilets, high-quality linens – everything is provided, and there's none of the damp, cold feeling you might expect from an old house. I really have to commend the owner's thoughtfulness. We stayed for three nights, but hadn't booked the same room type for all of them. I was prepared to switch rooms and move my luggage midway through, but to my surprise, the owner proactively upgraded us to a better room, so we didn't have to move once during our three-day stay. When you're traveling, not having to pack and unpack your luggage is such a blessing. This kind of consideration for the guest's experience is incredibly heartwarming. The service is also beyond reproach. They added us on WeChat beforehand and sent detailed local guides, which helped us avoid many potential pitfalls. When we left, they even gave us local specialty souvenirs. This sincere and warm hospitality truly touches your heart. If I had one minor suggestion, it would be that the steps in the old house make it a bit inconvenient to carry luggage. However, this small drawback pales in comparison to the tranquility of the courtyard and the starry night sky. Next time I come to Datong, I will definitely stay here again.

This hotel is very new, with a stylish design. The room layout and lighting design are meticulously thought out. The room's flow is logical, and the lighting is designed so that different lights don't interfere with each other, and they're easy to operate. I stayed for three consecutive days and found everything to be very convenient and comfortable. The breakfast offers a rich variety, with dishes changing daily. There are many different kinds of stir-fried seasonal vegetables, which is great for Cantonese people traveling who might miss out on their greens. The hotel's location is also excellent, making it very convenient to get to various attractions. The parking lot has plenty of spaces, making it ideal for self-driving tourists.

I forgot to leave a review before, but even though the facilities aren't top-notch, the environment was quite peaceful. I'm not sure if it was because I requested a quiet room when booking, but our three rooms were on a floor where there were indeed no noisy drunkards or unruly children. Being able to get a good rest makes it a decent hotel. Some hotels, despite having great facilities, have terrible management, which is pointless... Breakfast was average; the lamb offal soup was pretty good, but you can't expect too much from breakfast at this level of hotel. Both service and breakfast were pretty standard, and overall, it wasn't a rip-off.

This was a last-minute hotel change for me. When I arrived, my room wasn't ready yet, but the young lady at the front desk immediately and proactively helped me switch rooms and upgraded me. The deluxe twin room was very spacious; it felt almost empty for just me. The room was very clean, the bedding had no strange odors, and the facilities were new. Both the bathroom and the washroom had motion-sensor lights, and the toiletries had a lovely, fresh scent. The only minor issue was the toilet flush button, which needed a firm press all the way down to flush properly. All the staff I encountered were very polite. Breakfast was extensive, and the staff were constantly attentive to your needs, whether it was refilling tea or getting condiments – they were right there to help, which was great. There are many good restaurants nearby, like Xijindao Noodle House and Tianyuan Beiweijia Feast. When checking out, they proactively gave me a thoughtful souvenir gift, including aged vinegar, millet, and some local specialty snacks, which was a very nice touch.

Datong truly surprised me in the best way possible! Strolling along the ancient city walls or stepping into the Yungang Grottoes, the majestic Northern Wei dynasty grandeur and profound historical weight that span a thousand years just wash over you – it's incredibly awe-inspiring. Beyond the stunning ancient architecture, Datong's food is simply unforgettable. A bowl of authentic knife-cut noodles and a serving of Hunyuan cold noodles are not only generously portioned but also absolutely delicious. This city perfectly blends historical grandeur with a vibrant, everyday atmosphere. It's definitely worth making a special trip!

Let me talk about the pros. The breakfast was quite plentiful and tasty, 68 yuan per person. Our child, being 15, paid an extra 40 yuan. We booked three rooms together. The rooms were decent for a five-star hotel, and the lobby was beautiful. Now for areas for improvement. Aside from the good security guard at the entrance, the service could be better. Since it's a hot spring hotel, the hot spring itself is important, but it was rather mediocre. Of the 12 pools, some were 58 degrees Celsius, some 48 degrees, and only a few were usable and small. Also, because so many people were crammed into a few pools, they became quite dirty. All three families stayed for an hour before leaving. There were too many access control points. For a hotel in such a remote area, I don't understand why there were so many access control points and card swiping systems; it was very inconvenient. I didn't intend to give a low score because the front desk gave us a complimentary breakfast, which was a concession.

This hotel is actually part of Datong Hotel, and its location is quite good, right in the city center and not too far from the ancient city. Overall, it has that classic state-run hotel vibe – all the facilities are a bit old, but it's decent; nothing outstanding, but no major issues either. My travel companion stayed here over ten years ago, so we came back for the nostalgia. The room size is pretty good. The family room just replaced the sofa with an extra bed. The mattress was a bit too soft, which isn't ideal if you have back problems – I woke up with aches all over after two nights. One thing I do have to complain about is the cleanliness. The bathroom wasn't thoroughly cleaned; the bathtub hadn't been scrubbed properly. I figured I wouldn't use it anyway, so I didn't bother asking for it to be cleaned again. The buffet breakfast offered a decent variety, and you can also order à la carte on the second floor for lunch and dinner. They have all the local specialties, and the prices are quite reasonable.
