Guest UserTemporary modified itinerary, booked more than 11 pm garden view parent-child room, the hotel lady called back in seconds, pulled the butler service group, arranged to pick up the car. First of all, I like the little brother and sister of the hotel. They are young and energetic, and they beat 99% of the hotel. Yang Yang's 6-seater new car pick-up station, butler's strong concierge service and battery car in and out, the front desk clerk Hong's meticulous enthusiasm, have left a deep impression. The hotel provides ancient city food recommendations and maps of attractions in the ancient city. There are not many rooms, elegant and clean, the supplies are exquisite, and the design is quiet. It is very convenient to visit the ancient city, open the door to the downtown, enter the door to return to the hidden, it is recommended.

Anonymous UserOur stay was absolutely fantastic! From the airport pick-up, to checking in, and all the way to checking out, everything was smooth and pleasant. All the staff, from those handling the airport transfers, to the front desk, housekeeping, and other services, were incredibly warm and caring. You could really feel their genuine dedication to service and their passion for working at Nian Xia (Summer in the Southeast). The room itself was great too, with welcome fruits and all the amenities you could need. It's also super convenient for getting around and finding places to eat. Plus, with your room key, you get free entry to the Nian Xia Art Museum, which features INART and Tiankai sculptures – absolutely amazing!

On this trip, after leaving my job, I've stayed in many places, but Datong was the most surprising city. It's full of historical sites, delicious food, and a vibrant, down-to-earth atmosphere. But what surprised me even more was the guesthouse I chose. I did extensive research and ultimately decided to stay within the ancient city, which turned out to be incredibly convenient for dining, lodging, and getting around. It was fantastic and perfectly suited me.
Initially, I considered guesthouses in the Southeast District, but they were all new, and their styles were quite similar and unremarkable, much like guesthouses in other cities. So, I picked one with unique traditional Chinese characteristics, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was exactly to my liking – nutritious and light. The room was warm and cozy, and the toiletry kit was amazing, with thoughtful items inside. Even though it's been in the ancient city for ten years, the decor and renovation show no sign of age; it's incredibly well-maintained. The housekeeper mentioned they had just upgraded all the rooms before my arrival, haha! 😄
This guesthouse truly helped my restless mind calm down. It felt like staying in a museum. The aunties and housekeepers working here told me stories about every single object and corner, which deeply moved me. This is what a guesthouse should be – unpretentious and full of stories. The biggest surprise this time was having the chance to meet the owner, a wonderful lady. She was so nice, I initially thought she was just another staff member; she had absolutely no airs. More importantly, her experiences and background are incredible – she does extreme sports and has even climbed Mount Everest! Talking with her made me feel so comfortable and helped me let go of a lot of things. Thank you for the encounter; it was truly destiny. This was the most unexpected gain from my trip to Datong, and I will definitely go back if I get the chance! It felt just like home, with no sense of unfamiliarity whatsoever.

Staying at Pingchengfu truly makes you feel like you're living within the very fabric of Datong.
The location is superb, right in the Southeast City Historical and Cultural District. Step outside and you're greeted by the vibrant street life of ancient brick and tile alleyways. Just a short walk takes you to the Drum Tower and Shanhua Temple. Strolling through the ancient city at night, feeling the breeze of the Northern Wei Dynasty – that immersive experience is something chain hotels simply can't offer.
This guesthouse is a renovated old courtyard, retaining the authentic charm of Northern Shanxi residences while offering modern and comfortable interiors. Smart toilets, high-quality linens – everything is provided, and there's none of the damp, cold feeling you might expect from an old house.
I really have to commend the owner's thoughtfulness. We stayed for three nights, but hadn't booked the same room type for all of them. I was prepared to switch rooms and move my luggage midway through, but to my surprise, the owner proactively upgraded us to a better room, so we didn't have to move once during our three-day stay. When you're traveling, not having to pack and unpack your luggage is such a blessing. This kind of consideration for the guest's experience is incredibly heartwarming.
The service is also beyond reproach. They added us on WeChat beforehand and sent detailed local guides, which helped us avoid many potential pitfalls. When we left, they even gave us local specialty souvenirs. This sincere and warm hospitality truly touches your heart.
If I had one minor suggestion, it would be that the steps in the old house make it a bit inconvenient to carry luggage. However, this small drawback pales in comparison to the tranquility of the courtyard and the starry night sky. Next time I come to Datong, I will definitely stay here again.

Anonymous UserI like the scenery very much. Although the photo can't be photographed, the temperature is very comfortable on the breeze. The hotel is a hot spring hotel. I will definitely try the private soup next time. It is absolutely value-for-money.
Facilities: brand new and fully equipped
Hygienic: clean and absolutely
Environment: That's beautiful, very quiet.
Service: The front desk is very friendly to parents and children, gives children a lot of gifts, and is very patient, this is very commendable! Everything else is very good. Come back next time and recommend it to everyone.

This was my first time in Datong, and this hotel left me with an excellent impression of the city! The service was superb. Zhao Qingnan at the front desk was beautiful, kind, and provided wonderful service. Seeing that I had a child with me, she upgraded me to a twin room and even thoughtfully gave my child a complimentary breakfast, which was very nice.
Everyone I encountered at the hotel was warm and friendly. The security guard in the underground parking lot was especially patient and kept helping me direct my car.
The hotel breakfast was also very generous.

Let me talk about the pros. The breakfast was quite plentiful and tasty, 68 yuan per person. Our child, being 15, paid an extra 40 yuan. We booked three rooms together. The rooms were decent for a five-star hotel, and the lobby was beautiful. Now for areas for improvement. Aside from the good security guard at the entrance, the service could be better. Since it's a hot spring hotel, the hot spring itself is important, but it was rather mediocre. Of the 12 pools, some were 58 degrees Celsius, some 48 degrees, and only a few were usable and small. Also, because so many people were crammed into a few pools, they became quite dirty. All three families stayed for an hour before leaving. There were too many access control points. For a hotel in such a remote area, I don't understand why there were so many access control points and card swiping systems; it was very inconvenient. I didn't intend to give a low score because the front desk gave us a complimentary breakfast, which was a concession.

Guest UserYou truly appreciate the difference when you have something to compare it to. I first stayed at Datong Hotel thirty years ago, so naturally, it was my top choice for this visit to Datong.
Let's start with the 'positives'. For my first night, I chose the VIP building, thinking that with the country's rapid development, hotel accommodations must have advanced significantly. The promotional materials also touted its spacious and new rooms. However, upon checking in, I felt it wasn't worth the price. The front desk clearly had better rooms available but was unwilling to offer them without an additional charge for these 'so-called' superior rooms. It makes me wonder if the front desk staff has ever stayed in a four-star hotel or above. The VIP building's only real 'plus' was its larger space; otherwise, nothing felt particularly impressive. In the VIP building, the bathroom fixtures were broken, the walls didn't appear thoroughly scrubbed, and the carpet was dirty.
This judgment was drawn from a direct comparison. Dissatisfied with the VIP building, I decisively checked out and opted for the old building, where I had stayed three decades ago. I was touched by the elderly gentleman at the front desk even before seeing the room. Upon checking in, I discovered that apart from the room size being smaller than in the VIP building, everything else was equally good, if not better. The elderly gentleman at check-in introduced the amenities along the way – his service was truly commendable, and I plan to get his name for a special mention in a future review. The old building's walls were freshly painted, and the carpet was notably cleaner than in the VIP building. The toiletries also felt superior to those in the VIP building. The headboard cushions were clean and tidy, and the curtains were elegantly neat and clean.
Suggestions for the old building: The TV is quite old; replacing it shouldn't be too expensive. Attention to detail is crucial: the faucet handles, though old, have a noble appearance. The only imperfection is the missing small cap on the handle – a small blemish on an otherwise noble piece. The bathtub drain was malfunctioning. The shower curtain could be raised slightly higher. Since there are paintings, their frames should be clean and clear. The small cap on the toilet seat was also missing. Most importantly, the bathroom floor was quite slippery; measures should be taken to prevent guests from falling. Additionally, the old building's self-promotion is lacking. Enlarged photos of renowned figures who once stayed here should be displayed prominently. No other hotel in Datong boasts such an honor, and that's precisely your unique selling point.

Guest UserThis stay truly exceeded my expectations! The room was incredibly spacious, with plenty of room to move around – even with two large suitcases open, it didn't feel cramped at all. I wasn't really expecting a hotel gym, but it turned out to be a fantastic surprise! The space was open and not crowded, with a full range of cardio and strength equipment, all brand new and spotless. I didn't have to wait for any machines when I worked out in the evening, which meant I could stick to my routine even while traveling for business. I'll definitely stay here again next time!
