Demeures & Chateaux - Hotel de La Porte Saint-Malo

Two words for this hotel: warm and welcoming. The couple that run the hotel seem like an endless font of positive energy. When we asked “how are you” they said “we are great every day” and that’s how it feels from the moment you walk in to the moment you check out. The hotel is at the high end of 3 stars: they do everything to make it a great stay but the property is not what a 4-star hotel is expected to be- a bit more homey and informal. But we love that! The rooms are in great shape, all the towels and linens you need, etc, The hotel is a few houses put together so the property is more quirky and than a typical hotel (read as more steps and odd room sizes to make the most of the space). Our room was on the second floor with a narrow staircase leading to the room and low ceilings in some places. Not a problem, but it will lean toward homey than luxury. Breakfast was so nice. Your hosts are there again running around to ensure everything is great. It was. A very nice hotel breakfast. If they run out of coffee someone will be there to refill before long. Location is great - only 2 blocks from the walls of the center of the city and less than 10 minutes down (literally) to the waterfront. Highly recommended!
Mercure Dinan Port le Jerzual

Booked at the last minute when our ferry back to Jersey was cancelled. We caught the number 10 bus from St Malo which only costs 2.50 euros for the trip ( sorry not really relevant but thought might be of use to some). Mercure is a lovely location right in front of the river. The receptionist was very nice and we were able to store our bags until check in. Room was spacious and bed comfortable. I approve of the Nuxe body wash but would have liked it even more if they had provided body lotion. Kettle is provided with some cardboard cups and teas and coffees. Free cold water available on each floor. The outdoor heated pool was not terribly warm when I used it in the afternoon, but nice to have it available along with the jacuzzi. The gym is some cardio equipment only. I thought the pool was closed when I arrived in the morning at 9, but apparently I should have asked to have it opened. We didn’t have breakfast as 19 euros per person seemed quite steep. Lovely hotel in a beautiful town and I’d gladly come back.
Hôtel du Château Dinan - Originals Boutique

Welcomed by a really helpful staff member who gave us a map and pointed out restaurants and places of interest. He also found us an electric fan for the room as the weather was gloriously hot! Room small but clean and functional. Breakfast varied and tasty. No problems at all with our 3 night stay. We paid extra for secure parking which was well worth the money.
Hotel Arvor - O'Lodges by Arvor

This hotel is right in the middle of the oldest part of Dinan. Lots of shops and restaurants just steps away. About a block from the weekly market. Room was quite spacious for one person. Pleasant and comfortable. Staff were pleasant and friendly (and willing to put up with my attempts to speak French). Elevator a plus. Breakfast included Breton specialties: little pieces of Far Breton, and premade crepes that you could put jam or honey into. I bought some cheese at the market and cider at a shop and the staff brought it out for me to eat in the breakfast room. Another day I ordered a cheese platter and glass of wine. They also offered main courses at a very reasonable cost but I didn't try them.
