The Old Hall Ely

What a wonderful experience, staying 3 nights at The Old Hall Ely. Four of us in two magnificent rooms with amazing views. Beautiful meals and wine. Lovely coffee and carrot cake, and to top it all, incredibly thoughtful and helpful staff. Sheer bliss! A wonderful stay in a unique setting.

We had a family lunch there and would highly recommend it. From slightly difficult dietary issues form our guests to swapping and changing the number in our party, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food, service, decor and surrounds are all first rate. Can’t wait to go back and possibly even just find an excuse to stay over!

After 3 attempts, we finally got married (covid) The Old Hall have been nothing but incredible. The staff (Amy & Stacey) are so professional, bubbly and enthusiastic, they almost become part of the bridal family. They look after everything from extremely early guests, suppliers, set up, cleaning down, clockwork running of the day with no hiccups. The venue and everything about it is beautiful, there's nothing that can be faulted. Food was delicious, great portions, a wedding isn't a place for a king size plate of mounted up food. Nobody went hungry. All compliments to the chef and serving staff. The next day breakfast was lovely, staff attentive. Couldn't fault! You really feel that you're the only couple using the venue for a wedding that year. It is a corporate large scale wedding venue. They do have back to back weddings and the only way to make it work is to have rules. This isn't a negative, you're made fully aware on booking. It's because of these rules, that it works! - unable to arrive on site until 11am, for us. A wedding at 12 meant we had to get ready elsewhere (no problem at all it was still a lovely experience) hopefully one day, they will have a room on site somewhere for bridal team to get ready earlier without entering the house. We would of had a 2pm wedding ideally, however with the postponing, a registrar was only available at 12. - check out 10am. Again for us, not a problem. We have 2 children under 2, there's no such thing as a lie in! This is fairly standard check out, but if you have gone heavy drinking the night before the alarm won't be welcoming. - flower drop off. Yes you can drop off anything for the wedding the day before. There's a room put aside and the system works very well. We was told there's a cool room for flowers, however that didn't seem the case when we started dropping bits off. We decided not to drop off flowers until the morning of the wedding, so peonies didn't open too early. This wouldn't be an issue for most weddings, it was only because grooms mother did all the flowers for us. Thank you so much Old Hall, to everyone single member of staff who makes the day . From gardeners, to catering, cleaners and event organisers. It truly was our perfect wedding. Look forward to spending anniversaries with you for years to come!

We have had a 2 days stay for my niece’s wedding, what a wonderful place. Beautiful building with very luxurious rooms,fantastic grounds such a superb setting for a wedding. The staff were all very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble and the food was also very good. Would throughly recommend

Ate here with friends (in a large group) and have to say the service and quality of the food was exceptional! The setting is absolutely stunning and from the moment you arrive and have a welcome drink, you can’t help but relax and unwind. Everything here was excellent

We stayed for a Valentine's dinner and overnight stay and it was wonderful. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. All of the team were helpful and friendly. The Cathedral room was very spacious, brilliant views and well appointed. We will definitely be going back.

Very disappointing Sunday lunch - vegetables were stone cold they arrived separately not even luke warm . When it came to dessert they had sold out of the treacle sponge - not acceptable for a hotel of this star rating and 2 AA rosettes for food .

We were given an afternoon tea gift voucher for christmas, and went on the 27th of January this was our first visit to the old hall and we were looking forward to it very much we turned off the main road to be immediately greeted by the most beautifully kept driveway it left us even more excited to see what the next turn on the drive showed to us, wow the garden team certainly know their job even in the midst of winter it was immaculate,the attention to detail is breathtaking and we cant wait to visit during the year to see the gardens bloom.After parking the car there were even more lovely gardens to marvel at.we were welcomed by a lovely young lady who immediately looked after us and took us through to the orangery, this was also beautifully set for afternoon tea, and it promised more delights , the china was elegant and the pink organic cava was delicious ,there was even a non alcoholic pink cava for my husband who was driving, thats a very thoughtful touch and not one we have had in some of the best dining rooms we have visited.The views from the orangery were spectacular, the topiary is splendid and the sight of Ely Cathedral floating like the ship of the fens is second to none. Now to the food, well l will try to keep this short, although l will probably fail, our food came on a slate cake stand,and we all exclaimed our delight at the sight, again the utmost attention to detail is evident here, the homemade breads were fresh and all infused with herbs and flavours to complement the fillings the quality of the fillings were top notch l wont say what they were as it is nice for guests to discover these as part of their own experience, but they were delicious, the scones were very well made and pulled apart perfectly just as they should and the accompanying extras were also spot on.The cakes were delicious, again l wont give too much away but we didn't leave a scrap of food and that certainly isn't because we didnt get enough food, we most certainly did . We had excellent service we were asked if all was to our liking,and offered more tea. We were not rushed and were made to feel welcome the whole time, this is a wonderful place to come to and l would encourage anyone who is looking for a wonderful treat either for themselves or as a gift ,to book as soon as you can, we shall, most certainly be returning .often,

If you haven’t been I suggest you give the steak night a try, you will not be disappointed. Only problem is booking a table I book up at least a month before we go, staff and food are both excellent VFM, my family state it’s the best steak around! And I tend to agree location/venue is amazing, we are lucky to have this place so near to us, like Arnie said “I’ll be back”😁
