La Residenza del Proconsolo

Super location just steps away from the Duomo. It was hot outside in Florence in July but cool in my room with the AC. The breakfast items in the room left something to be desired (mostly packaged snacks like from a convenience store) but they replenished the bottled water which was appreciated. The room had a lot of space and was clean.

I spent one week there in March 2004 with my sister and a friend. The hostel is actually behind the Duomo on the third floor of a historic (everything in that area is historic) building. The rooms are not huge, the furniture isn't that fancy, and there are 3 standard bathrooms. The location of this place is fantastic. If you go to Florence and are expecting to stay in your room, you need to have your head examined. There is nothing wrong with this place, and the owner was very friendly and was usually available for questions.

We stayed here years ago on our honeymoon and it was a fine and affordable place to rest your head. Nothing fancy, the building was pretty cool as it is 600 years old! The location was perfect to reach everything on foot and for the price (35 usd, at the time) I was very happy with it. Not a romantic hotel but great if you just want an affordable place with character. Besides, i'd pretty much sleep in a bathtub for $35 a night!

the suite is incredibly tastefully done. amongst a first for apartments/suites that i have used. it was a superb location just a stone's throw away from the Duomo and all things great (eating, shopping, tourist spots). it had all the amenities that are listed on the website. We were also provided a complementary bottle of wine by the host which was a pleasant surprise. the suite access is by stairs only and there is no lift (elevator) to the apartment/suite. if you have issues with climbing stairs you may want to consider this information. the host was incredibly helpful with lugging our luggage and us :-) to the apartment. locationally you cannot have anything better to visit florence city centre.

Nothing fancy but you get your own apartment (bedroom, dining area, bathroom, kitchen). Good value for money considering it's amazing location, which is just less than 5 minutes from the Duomo. Shops also just around the corner.

Stayed there in March 2004. Horrible! A look at their webpage is totally misleading. Frescos...hmm..only in three rooms. Other rooms are horrible, no heating (7-9 degrees C at night in March) no cleaning, not even upon your arrival. We found a dust bin in our room full of garbage. The bathrooms are cleaned once a week, nothing works properly. Our neighbors showed no respect to privacy and were laughing loudly at midnight. The owners, a Croatian lady and her very suspicious partner Vladimir, didn't give us any receipt, so we could only hope the money we payed went to Brussels as part of Italy's contribution to EU. The only good thing about this place is that it was very centrally located.
