I usually stay at Marriott, InterContinental, Ritz, or Four Seasons, so I haven't really had many Hilton experiences. My last stay at a Hilton was in Foshan, and this time I decided to book two nights at the Hilton in Haikou for a relaxing getaway. Let me start with the pros.
I arrived at the hotel around 2 AM after my flight landed at 1 AM. The front desk staff quickly processed my check-in, and the entire process was efficient and fast. During my two-night, three-day stay, every time I returned, the greeters at the entrance were incredibly enthusiastic. They'd open and close the doors for me and greet me warmly. It's truly commendable that even as greeters, and not internal hotel staff, they provided such excellent service.
Next, the hotel lobby really embodies the Hilton brand, from the signature scent to the facilities – it has that distinct Hilton character. As for the room, my first impression was how spacious it was. For a king room to be this large, I'd say the value for money is exceptionally high. The service after checking in was also great. When I was hungry in the middle of the night and ordered room service, the guest services center thoughtfully called to ask about any dietary restrictions and offered recommendations. The server delivering the meal gently knocked on the door, brought in the food on a cart, and truly acted like a private butler. Most importantly, every staff member, without exception, spoke to me with extreme respect, unlike the sometimes indifferent tone you get at other hotels.
I also have to commend the housekeeping. The cleaning lady was genuinely wonderful. When I left my room to take the elevator, she first greeted me and then respectfully asked when I would be returning so she could clean my room first. When I returned to my room, I was pleasantly surprised to see my clothes neatly folded (many hotels only tidy the room and rarely fold clothes, or do so haphazardly). The entire service experience made me feel a strong sense of warmth and being well taken care of, truly like a home away from home.
Now that I've covered the pros, let's talk about the cons. First, the room view. I booked an open-concept ocean-view king room, but from the window, you could barely see the ocean, which was a bit disappointing. Of course, at check-in, the front desk informed me that there were no high-floor rooms available that day but offered to switch my room the next day if I let them know in advance. I ended up not bothering with the change, but for a room advertised as an 'ocean view,' the actual view was indeed unsatisfactory.
Then there's the hotel's design. When I first checked in, I went to the wrong elevator twice, which is how I discovered the hotel has three different elevators: one for high-floor rooms, one that only goes to the low-floor spa and gym, and the one I was supposed to take, labeled 'Hilton Apartments Elevator.' Such a design seems overly complicated. Finally, the room details weren't quite up to par. For example, one of the lights on the vanity in my room would occasionally flicker, and there was an exposed washing machine, which looked a bit cheap.
Overall, the Hilton is indeed a very good hotel. The service rivals that of top luxury hotels, and the value for money is excellent. The aerial views from the high floors are definitely impressive, but there are still some minor deficiencies in certain details. It would be my honor if the hotel could consider my suggestions for improvement. I hope the hotel continues to strive for excellence, and I look forward to more pleasant surprises on my next stay.
