"We stayed in a twin bunk bed room. Very clean, toilets and showers were great (about 6 toilets, 4 showers). Common space was very inviting and cozy with a nice wood heater. A bit of noise until midnight with creaky floorboards but aside from that, very quiet location. Not much open around for food on a Monday night in mid March but we went to Coffee Plaza for dinner and had food from Lawsons for breakfast. Highly recommend!!"

"The room was a bit small, and the towels had a really unpleasant, sour smell – it was honestly unbearable. I wasn't very satisfied. The room view was decent, but overall, the place felt quite old and outdated. The transportation wasn't convenient. Overall, it was just an average experience."

"The host turned out to be a retired ********* person living in Japan, and it felt very warm and familiar communicating with them! The house itself is also full of character. Through our conversations, we learned that the host put a lot of thought into preserving the house's original features while also making it suitable for modern needs. Our whole family was very satisfied with the reception we received that day. We even chatted into the evening and had a wonderful time. Wishing you all the best in your retirement!"

"The room was really clean and modern feel. Loved it the moment we stepped in! Pillows and bed was so comfy that allows us to rest well on a road trip. Pls note they do not have kitchen, they do offeted 24hrs free coffe, tea and miso at their mini meals area where you can buy your own food and enjoy there with families. Seriously no complaint about the hotel. But if you are heading there on sun like us, pls do note you will have limited choice for dinner as most restaurants closed on sun"

"As the first stop of my birthday trip, I chose Aso. Having previously worked as a hotel management professional, I had high expectations for the hotel’s facilities and services. My stay at Kakuman Hotel, along with my traveling companions, was thoroughly enjoyable—from check-in to the overall amenities, everything exceeded our satisfaction. The staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly, whether at the front desk or in the restaurant. Additionally, experiencing hot springs for the first time left us feeling deeply relaxed. Thank you to Kakuman Hotel for adding color to my journey.🙏🏼 While every aspect was highly satisfying, there was a minor shortcoming: the majority of diners in the restaurant were Korean tourists. On my second night, a small incident occurred during dinner. The server assigned me a seat where only tableware and a departure-time notice were placed. After I retrieved my food, I found three Korean guests (two elderly individuals and a middle-aged man) preparing to sit there. I was confused whether I had taken the wrong seat or if there was another reason, so I asked the guests. Unexpectedly, the man loudly called over the female server who had arranged the seat and sharply questioned her in Japanese. The server later found me the correct seat, which was at the table adjacent to the three guests. I felt deeply sorry for the female server being unjustly scolded, and I also did not understand why the Korean man needed to accuse her in such a loud tone—I would have been happy to apologize for my misunderstanding. Regarding the above incident, I would like to offer a suggestion: the tables in the restaurant are each equipped with a bucket of tableware and wet wipes, but there are no numbers or markers to identify the assigned seats. Guests can only rely on placing their own items or memory to remember their seats. I believe I am not the only one who has encountered a similar issue, and the hotel may consider adding markers to each table to make it easier for guests to recognize their assigned seats."

Big enuf for a teenager to sleep on. Space big enough to open just one huge luggage. Somehow the room feels damp but we just stayed for two nights so did not bother changing rooms. "The tatami room is definitely worth experiencing. While the room itself has a toilet, there are no private showers, as guests primarily use the hotel's excellent communal onsen facilities. These fantastic facilities boast numerous hot spring pools, opening as early as 6 AM. Although the room rate might seem a bit steep, the overall experience and amenities provide incredible value. You get to enjoy spacious lawns, beautiful mountain views, two generous buffet meals daily (breakfast and dinner), and, of course, unlimited access to the rejuvenating hot springs. All things considered, it's genuinely great value for money."

Stay at a business hotel with free-flowing hot spring for your trip to Aso

"Like the onsen in the hotel; onsen water is good and big enough for 6-7 person to use. Japanese breakfast served by staff was quite substantial and tasty. The room that we stayed is quiet and faces mountain and park. Bathroom a little small but clean. There wasn’t any wardrobe but there were hooks on the wall and hangers were provided."

All rooms are installed with internet free of charge!Enjoy the kaiseki cuisine that colors the four seasons and the spectacular open-air view

"To be expected in such a small town, the hotel is quite old and dated. The tatami room can accommodate four futons for a family of four, but there is almost no room left for anything else. The public onsen on 1F and roof are included with your stay. This hotel is great value for money if you know what a traditional Japanese onsen hotel is like."

GGuest UserIn the quiet mountainous area of Azu, the superior traditional hot spring hotel, it is impossible to expect direct rail or public transportation! Only suitable for self-driving travelers, go to the nearest convenience store and drive 4 minutes. The service is too good to ask for more, very kind, the waiter can communicate in simple English. Breakfast and dinner are delicious, eat in a separate room. Originally there were cows and sashimi, but because we didn't eat it, the check-in explained that the waiter worked hard to help us communicate with the chef to change to duck and sashimi. The room is very large, the TV is a large-size Sony new smart TV in recent years, Wifi is stable, you can stay in the room to soak in the hot springs, lie on the sofa to play waste and watch YouTube, not afraid of doing nothing at night. The whole hotel only has 7 rooms, so there are not many guests. The room has been soaked in separate baths, and you can use a large bath (indoor and outdoor) at night to appoint 5 separate soup houses, soaking is very cool! Next time if you have the opportunity to pass Asu to do the midway station, you will definitely come again!

YYumaoshenshuangchiThe hotel is located in the forest. There are only three single-family villas in the whole hotel. Each villa has a large courtyard and back garden. There is also a private hot spring. The environment is great, and the breakfast and dinner are also good. Friends with sufficient budget can consider it!

JJujuliabeiThis onsen ryokan, right in the heart of Uchinomaki Onsen town, gets a perfect score from us! We encountered incredibly thoughtful staff and a warm taxi driver. Knowing we had to catch the JR train the next day, the front desk auntie went above and beyond to help us arrange a taxi, even standing outside anxiously waiting with us. Once the taxi arrived, she repeatedly urged the driver to speed up. The driver, a kind grandpa, even used a translator on the way to constantly reassure us that we would make it in time, and expressed his longing to visit China. This was truly the highlight of our trip. As for the hotel itself, it's a well-established ryokan. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, each featuring an indoor onsen with direct, free-flowing hot spring water that leaves your skin feeling incredibly smooth. We loved the large, traditional Japanese-style decor. There are also two private onsen that require advance booking, as well as a large public onsen. We later discovered it was even a filming location for a racing manga! Additionally, there's an outdoor foot bath. Dining was a delightful surprise. We enjoyed Wagyu shabu-shabu, and the children's meal even included Wagyu yakiniku. Breakfast offered the famous local Mizunashi chicken dish, which completely won over my taste buds. On the first floor, there's also a preserved, old-fashioned Japanese-style reception room in the lobby, made with high-quality wood, which guests can visit.

GGuest UserGreat dinner that you much purchase together with room stay! Private hot springs on first come first serve which we enjoy very much. As tourist, we also enjoyed the Japanese room. Also very good breakfast with fruits choice from the region. Will definitely stay again in next visit to ASO. P.S. we missed the Mount ASO Smoke Observation Park on the first day as they stop visitor from 4pm. We went again the next day morning (JPY1000 per car driving up) and finally made it of Mount ASO.

AAnonymous UserIt was very good. It was my first time staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan with tatami rooms, so I wasn't used to it at first, but I slept well and it was very quiet. The public and private onsen baths were both excellent, and the meals included with the stay were also well-arranged. Recommended!

GGuest UserThe guesthouse is fantastic! While its location might be a bit inconvenient if you don't have a car, as it's quite a distance from the train station, both the rooms and the hot spring baths are very comfortable. They also provide washing machines and vending machines (laundry pods/detergent cost extra). The guesthouse staff offered excellent service; the next day, when I couldn't find a bus, they even drove me directly to the station. I'm truly grateful for that! I would definitely choose to stay here again next time!
