This is a historic building that dates back to 1548 and has gone through 11 owners. Today it is a spa hotel The hotel sits on a large piece of land, with herds of cattle and sheep in front of the door. The restaurant on the other side has a great view of the lake and a large meadow. Rabbits and squirrels often jump around in the meadow and forest. You can reach the lake through a path, or you can hike in the forest. From the elevator, you can feel that the hotel has a sense of age. The spa has a constant-temperature swimming pool, a cold pool, a hot pool, and an outdoor hot pool, facing a large area of grass and woods, which is really pleasant. The only thing to note is: if you check out at 11 o'clock, you must go to the spa before checking out. After 11 o'clock, there will be an additional charge of 20 pounds per person.

I honestly don't know where to start, there are so many factors about our day that just made it more than we could've ever hoped for. We first met Lynsey, the wedding co-ordinator, around 6 months before our planned wedding date. She put our minds at ease immediately saying we could easily achieve what we wanted within our budget and time frame. Nothing was too much trouble, and when it came to the actual day, we knew we didn't have to worry at all because she had everything planned meticulously. We honestly cannot thank her or recommend her enough! As for the venue, we couldn't have hoped for anything more perfect. We checked into our room and were immediately greeted with stunning views over Bassenthwaite and the gorgeous hotel grounds. The ceremony room and function room were both perfect - who wouldn't want to say 'I do' with views like that in the background! Thank you so much Armathwaite Hall, for delivering our perfect wedding day!

A grumpy welcome at reception followed by an even grumpier barman in the (admittedly stunning) cocktail bar. Our room -154- was really tired - tatty furniture and bizarrely only hot water in the bathroom. Food in lakeside restaurant good and staff attentive, breakfast is ok. Spa is great.

Traveling from the US,my husband and I spent a month in the Lake District soaking up the Spring beauty, replenishing our soul, and reconnecting with family and friends. My sister and her husband joined us for 5 days from Dallas TX. She had one request, a proper British High Tea. Before their arrival we researched many venues. So happy we decided upon Armathwaite. The setting is stunning, the tea itself was both beautiful and delicious. There was more food than we could possibly manage and the service was impeccable. Richard was helpful in the booking process as well as attentive to detail the day we arrived. We could not have been happier with our choice. Thank you

So we decided to eat in the Brasserie. We were told we could eat at 6pm or 8pm when we got there at 6pm the place was nearly empty. We sat for 1 and a half hours waiting for our food and the restaurant was still not busy. Dreadful service. All the focus, staff were focused on a wedding that was going on in the hotel wouldn't stay here the price's for the type of service we got was terrible

We were staying in a cottage close to the hotel for a couple of nights. We looked at nearby places to eat and decided to book a meal.for three of us( myself my husband and our 13 year old son) in The Brasserie. We looked at the hotel on the website and were expecting our meal and experience to be quite special. We walked to the hotel and were initially impressed with the gorgeous surroundings and hotel grounds. On arrival at The Brasserie we were suprised as the decor and atmosphere didnt appear to be in keeping with the rest of the beautiful hotel. We were served initially by a very friendly gentleman who was chatty and checked on us appropriately to ensure we were happy with everything. My son ordered a pizza which was very tasty but my husband's mushroom stroganoff was bland and unordinary. I ordered a bruscetta which was tasty but overpriced for a starter. The fries as a side however were delicious. A new waitress appeared and we have to say it was an experience we have never come across before! I had ordered a lakes elderflower gin with a fever tree ginger ale. I allowed my son to taste a bit of ginger ale from the bottle. She appeared out of nowhere and snatched the bottle from my 13 yr old son's hand( which really unnerved him!) She made a comment about the fact it was an alcoholic drink. We reassured her it wasnt and that we were responsible parents! We can understand she was a young member of staff ( she was very friendly and sometimes a little over keen, standing over us while we were trying to enjoy a family meal) but we felt some of her actions were a little inappropriate for a 4 star hotel. She also made a comment about my husband wiping his nose on a napkin. We do understand she is probably still.learning but she may have benefited from some guidance from.more experienced members of staff? We ordered a cheeseboard for dessert and waited a long time. We were told the chef was really busy. When the cheeseboard arrived we were informed they had run out of some of the cheeses stated on the menu and the waiter informed us he had added some extra cheese which was a nice touch but we felt it would have been better customer service if we had been informed on ordering that not all.of the cheeses were available. The meal was expensive and we were disappointed with our experience. During the meal.my husband and 13 year old son went to the gents toilet. On returning to the table my husband and son told me they were shocked at the state of the toilet as there was glass all.over the floor and a dirty nappy and used toilet tissue. My husband told me he had reported it to a passing menber of staff who said he would report it to reception. On leaving we all went to reception to check the message had got through as I was really concerned about glass being on the floor with the possibility of other young diners like my son or any guests going in there. The receptionist was not aware of this but we did see her telling another member of staff about it as

We recently spent 3 wonderful days at this hotel. The facilities are excellent and we found all the staff to be very helpful. We would like to give a special mention regarding the service we has from Guru who served us in the Court Yard Bar and Barsserie for two of our dinners he is without doubt one of the nicest people who we have had serve us. He made our dinning experience feel very special, We.found the pool and spa Area or be a wonderful place to swim and relax. Two observation we would like to share is that we found getting in and out of the pool difficult and dangerous and would suggest that you look into a way of providing an easier way to get in and out with some better steps. I have to say that many of the other guests we talked to also felt the same. The pool and Spa area is warm and welcoming but we saw a few people slip on the wet floor around the pool which did appear very slippery when wet.

UPDATED REVIEW: In view of contact from Richard at the hotel we have decided to complete a reflected review, as we were very impressed with the response from the hotel and their eagerness to improve the customer experience. We visited for one night and booked a standard room. It was big and generally very clean, but a little tiered in places, something the hotel is aware of and keen to rectify. The Spa is a tranquil place to relax and again, in need of some minor TLC in places. Richard assured us they will be making improvements to some of the furnishings and reviewing the drinks ordering process, which is currently through an intercom. We opted to eat in the Brasserie and whilst the food was ok, the setting wasn’t quite fitting of the beautiful hotel and it was good to hear about the plans to refurbish as this could be a hidden gem alternative to the main restaurant. Breakfast was cooked and of a good standard with plenty of options, and the setting in the main restaurant allows far reaching views. The hotel itself is spectacular and the surrounding countryside and lake view is equally impressive. The hotel helped us decide on a location walk and had plenty of handy guides. Overall staff worked really hard and although the receptionist (when we arrived) seemed to be operating on her own, was friendly and really helpful with all requests. This place is worth a visit and good…it could be great and Richard’s reach out to us personally signalled intent to continue to improve. The gesture was not lost on us and it will be interesting to see if the hotel honours this. Give it a go.
