ShanHu Boutique Hotel

The guesthouse has a great location, close to Cuihu Lake, but the guesthouse itself is genuinely awful. It's located on the second floor of a building, with a convenience store and fast food restaurant on the first floor, and another restaurant on the third. There's no elevator, so you have to lug your suitcases up yourself. I can't believe the owner dares to charge almost 400 RMB for this. The room is small, and the projector screen requires a paid membership for everything you want to watch. The afternoon tea was disappointing – no local Kunming specialties, just some plain, unpackaged biscuits. What was most frustrating was being woken up in the middle of the night by various loud noises of things being moved around, combined with an unpleasant smell wafting from the bathroom, making it impossible to sleep. Breakfast consisted of the cheapest rice noodles from a very basic fast-food noodle stall downstairs, served by an incredibly grumpy aunt who looked like the guesthouse owner hadn't paid her. The only reason I reluctantly stayed for one night was because the front desk staff member was incredibly nice. The next day, I immediately checked out and moved to the Lidere Hotel across the street. In comparison, it just highlighted how truly terrible this guesthouse was. Everyone, please avoid this place at all costs!

Our main purpose for this trip was Green Lake Park, and the hotel's location was super convenient, less than a 10-minute walk away. While hotels near Green Lake typically command higher prices, this one offered exceptional value. The staff were also incredibly thoughtful; noticing we had a child, they kindly upgraded our room type at no extra cost. Dining options in the vicinity were also plentiful and convenient, making the location truly superb. Overall, it's a budget-friendly hotel with a fantastic location and great value for money. Highly recommended!
