HUALUXE Hotels and Resorts KUNMING

Flora was very professional and excellent at problem-solving. When we had an issue with our room, she was able to offer reasonable solutions. The housekeeping supervisor, however, was unprofessional, and the rooms weren't cleaned properly by the housekeeping department. Overall, the front desk and concierge made up for the unpleasant parts of our trip. The hotel facilities are comprehensive, the private hot spring's temperature and view were both great and very photogenic, and the public areas are also spacious. It's well-suited for travel with many attractions nearby, and it's very quiet at night.

The room itself was old and mediocre. The TV's color was so faded it was unwatchable – like something out of the 90s. The service staff (restaurant, housekeeping) were generally older, and they were very un proactive about replacing and replenishing amenities. It felt more like a three-star hotel's performance. The front desk staff's professionalism was decent overall, and the luggage service was基本active and attentive. For dining, the breakfast was quite ordinary, comparable to what you'd find in a domestic budget hotel. The public hot spring facilities were generally acceptable. Since it was included in the room rate, and they only opened a few of the pools, like 2 or 3 out of 8, it felt a bit like a rip-off. This really doesn't align with what you'd expect from a brand under a 5-star hotel group.

This hotel is truly a 'hidden gem' tucked away in Kunming's most bustling tourist area. The HUALUXE, nestled within, shines like a pearl in tranquil waters, beckoning you to lose yourself in its charm. InterContinental is a favorite among Yunnan proprietors, and InterContinental and HUALUXE are the twin stars of Kunming. Historically, HUALUXE's Chinese luxury concept hasn't always been smooth-sailing, with only Master Zhang Jinqiu's HUALUXE Xi'an Tanghua and the HUALUXE Kunming designed by WATG standing out. Previously, WATG's most famous work in China was arguably the Ritz-Carlton Sanya. The HUALUXE Kunming is a quintessential resort hotel. The trees, flowing water, and the Western Hills in the background create a harmonious ecological and cultural experience. This was my 71st stay at an IHG hotel this year, and it was an absolute delight. Guest Relations Manager Cathy is the most professional and enthusiastic manager I've encountered all year. She meticulously arranged everything I could think of, and even things I hadn't – from room upgrades to Chinese restaurant reservations and details for the hotel's hot springs. Everything was simply perfect. I will definitely be back!

Facilities: Though a bit dated, the old-money aesthetic is charming and well-maintained. The rooms are spacious, brightly lit, and clean. The suite with a private hot spring tub is a real highlight. The hotel service is excellent; we had a butler who added us on WeChat a day in advance to help with our itinerary and even delivered warm sweet soup to our room in the evening. The restaurant offers beautiful window views, and the hotel garden is lovely.

Everything about our hotel stay was great, and our butler Wendy even followed up with us! Five-star rating! The environment is excellent, and I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Kunming. All the staff are very friendly, and they even contacted us in advance to ask about our room preferences. Please, to the backend operations department, stop making extra work by forcing staff to do follow-ups; everyone is already working so hard 😓
