Svala Apartments by Heimaleiga

The Svala Studio in Reykjavik was our worse experience in our extensive travel history. The studio was in an unacceptable, unhealthy condition: the whole place had a bad smell of mold; the windows in the bathroom and bedroom were rotten and covered with mold. The equipment of the small studio - which was around 15 m2 although we had ask for a studio of 32m2 - was absolutely poor, not suitable for a stay of 2 people for 5 days. Examples: no wardrobes to put anything of our belongings, no hangers, no table or chairs, etc. We contacted immediately the agency but no alternative accommodation, or any assistance was offered. We had no other choice than to leave immediately this place, being harmful to our health, which we notified to the agency. The same evening, after having found ourselves another, suitable accommodation, we complained to the agency and asked for a compensation. They refused. In repeating our request, they never replied to our main complaint notably that the studio was in an unacceptable unhealthy condition. They only repeated that this was the place that we had booked. We now have filed a formal complaint with the responsible authorities in Reykjavik.

Great place to stay in central Reykjavik and bonus points for being close to a bus stop for our tours! Very good value for money as they all have their own kitchen and bathroom. Lovely clean tidy and comfy. Easy access with codes to the door. Would recommend

Amazing apartment - location is just brilliant and apartment has everything you need. So spacious and such good value. We hired a car so we’re pleased to see there was car park. Absolutely loved Iceland and so pleased we booked Svala for the trip.

Fabulous apartment right in the centre of reykjavík. We had a studio apartment for 3 of us and it was huge with separate sleeping area with 2 beds and 2 beds in main area with dining table and well equipped kitchen. Little extras like a Nespresso machine with capsules, nice toiletries in bathroom and A communal balcony on the 4th floor where we watched the northern lights just made it perfect. Cheaper than a hotel and we cooked meals bought from the Bonus supermarket 2 mins away so saved a fortune on eating out.

We loved our stay at Svala Apartments. We stayed in the penthouse and it was perfect for us as a family of four. Exactly as described with a king bed in bedroom and large sofa bed in lounge. Clean, comfortable and modern. Fitted kitchen with all basic kitchen utensils provided. Two lovely balconies. Deep in snow during our stay but my children enjoyed playing out on them. Door codes rather than keys were very useful. The location was ideal for exploring the city / near bus stop 9 for tour pick ups. A very useful guide to the apartment, recommendations for shopping / restaurants etc was provided. Very helpful. Lovely restaurants and shops nearby. The managers were very helpful and responsive to communication. On request they organised a camp bed for my son as he didn’t want to share with his sister. I would definitely use again and recommend to others.

Travelled as a family of four, Unfortunately on arrival we could not park at the Apartment as the roads were closed for the festivities, not Svala's fault but maybe could have given us notice? Once we got in they were warm and clean and that is all you can ask for when it's bitter cold outside, Spacious and exactly as described. Little limited regarding the utensils as not even a tray to cook anything in the oven which might be something to add, only four knives etc so had to keep washing up to use them. Bathroom nice and modern and beds really comfy, great location too. Once we were able to park around the back, people seemed to park where they liked (in our spot) so we then had to park in other spots which wasn't ideal, also leaving cars in stupid positions so difficult to exit. Not Svala's fault but ignorant guests and shop workers..! Over all enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Thanks Svala for allowing us to stay.
