We stayed at the City Center Hotel for two nights. There is an eclectic interior, comfortable lobby and on one of the lobby tables there is a large jar of candy which has some delicious licorice toffee for the taking. Check-in and out was easy, smooth and both the receptionists were extremely friendly and talkative. Baktus, who has his own Instagram account lives there… just another adorable resident Reykjavik cat! Our room was on the fifth floor and there was a small lift or you could take the stairs. Our room had a king sized, comfortable bed. The balcony was small and lovely and there were dark curtains to block out the sun in the morning. There was also a small refrigerator kind of funky-cool as it looked like a wine cooler. Plenty of towels, soap, shampoo and a hairdryer. There is no closet but a clothes rack to hang coats or clothes. Centrally located there are a multitude of restaurants around; we ate at the Laundromat Cafe one night. There is also a small grocery store across the tiny park at the end of the street which had vegan sandwiches and other goodies. Also, the hotel is within walking distance of Bus Stop #1 ( City Hall) and Bus Stop #3 ( outside of Hard Rock Cafe) which made it super simple to catch excursion busses or the bus back to BSI bus station and on to the Keflavik airport. Would stay here again-

We had a lovely stay! It may not be for the budget-minded (this is Iceland after all - everything is expensive), but the hotel makes up for it in other ways. It has a great location in the center of town, close to the waterfront and many fine restaurants & bars. The front desk staff was very helpful, as they assisted us with booking a day tour of the Golden Circle, along with other small requests. The breakfast room is large and well-staffed, serving a wide variety of traditional breakfast items, as well as a few Icelandic specialties. the room was clean, quiet, and well-appointed. The shower may pose a problem for some larger people, but perhaps that was just our room. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Stayed in a lower level rear room next to the lift. No lift noise but no views either but since we were there to sleep that didn't matter too much! Sheets were so comfortable, really fabulously soft. Staff were helpful and the hotel was city centre and close to things we were interested in. We greatly enjoyed our stay!

We stayed here a couple of nights in early September for a pre-cruise stay. Clean, comfortable (we opted for the slightly larger room) and a great location near the waterfront area and walking distance to the old town part of Reykjavit. They accommodated an early arrival due to our flight schedule, which was appreciated. There is a connected cafe and coffee bar which was very convenient. There are some off-site parking garages (rented a car) which are OK, but a little expensive and if it is raining, not real convenient. They said they had storage lockers, but because they provided an early check-in, we did not need them, so I am not sure if they are on-site or not - if they are the ones in the parking structure, they are definitely not sufficient. Although we do not see us returning soon, if we did, we would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is the perfect location for a visit to Reykjavik. The main shopping street and many restaurants are within walking distance, as well as the old wharf where the whale watching ships are located. The staff was great, the coffee house excellent. Make sure to get a superior room; the second time we stayed we were not given that type of room and it was smaller and on the noisier side of the hotel. On the weekends, the bars close at 4:30 am, so there is much partying going on!

This hotel is in the perfect location. Bus stop no9 outside where all the trips pick up/drop off. Lovely self service breakfast with plenty of choice. Lovely, warm and cosy environment, when you come in from the cold. Our room 417 was very quiet and had a balcony. Room temperature is adjustable, which is good depending on weather. This hotel has a lot going for it, but it's held back by the fit and finish of many of the hotel's spaces. Overall, the hotel just feels dated. The red carpet in all of the halls is faded and stained, the wood floor in the room had a lot of damage, and the spa is way past its prime. On a positive note, the furniture in the room has been updated recently and the pieces were nice plus I found the bed to be very comfortable. Also, breakfast was really good! The service at the hotel was also great. But that spa, ugh. It's a perk of being a gold/diamond member, but the spa is just not in good condition. Most urgently, something needs to be done about the steam room, it smelled awful while we were there and even made other parts of the spa smell. But overall, the spa was just not in good shape with damage everywhere. Also, the location of this hotel isn't great if you're looking to explore Reykjavik but, if like us, you want somewhere with free parking for you to explore the rest of Iceland, then this is a great location for you.

Quite a distance by foot from the center… they do provide a one way shuttle to the city Center, pity it’s only 2 trips per day at 1000 and 1700. The courtyard facing rooms really do open to the lobby view, I got a ground floor unit which was quite noisy at times.

NNavCLocation is very good. Walking distance to all places. Rooms are small but ok. We stayed 3 nights. First night we arrived 2 am and was put in a strange room in the next adjacent building which had no elevator to join. We had big bags traveling from very far to reach Iceland. Immediately I notified trip.com assistant and also ask to change room which was done next morning. Thank you to the hotel & trip.com The reception staff was very nice and helpful Breakfast was good enough

GGuest UserHotel was clean, and overall nice. Free breakfast was very nice and had a wide range of food (bread, yogurt + toppings, make your own waffles, beans, eggs, coffee & tea); there is also a communal fridge on the 2nd floor. However, a few VERY IMPORTANT things to know regarding this hotel being self-service: 1. You are supposed to receive an entry code to get into the hotel 24-48 hours before arrival. We did not know this as we had booked through a credit card rewards program. We arrived to the hotel through the parking structure and were met with a key pad and a sign saying that all guests should have a code in their email. We called two numbers for the hotel and could not reach anyone - so we just called constantly and sat outside the building door for ~30-45 minutes. Finally some guests left and held the door open for us so we were able to be in the lobby. It was around 6pm which is when the bar opens up, so we were finally able to find a staff member who helped us. Our credit card company also finally got in touch with someone and we received our email with the code. So FYI - if you have not received a code within 24 hours, make sure you reach out so you have time to get into contact with the hotel as they do not appear to answer their phones all the time (email may be more effective). 2. The parking structure is difficult to park in - it is an underground structure, so just be prepared to park in a slightly tight space. However, the parking structure leads directly into the hotel which was very nice! 3. As it is a self-service hotel, we were having trouble opening and closing our door (we couldn't get it to lock). We were able to ask the man tending to the bar for help; but he was only able to do a temporary fix; I feel at a non-self service hotel we may have been able to get a different room with an appropriately functioning door. We just had to use lots of strength and make lots of noise to slam the door shut to lock it - not the biggest deal, but just a small note. 4. Just an FYI that this location is not in the city center of Reykjavik (you would have to drive or take the bus to get to the city center). This place is more residential, with grocery stores (which we went to) etc. We had stayed in a hotel in the city center earlier in the trip; and this was a very different spot of Reykjavik. Just FYI that Reykjavik is massive! Overall nice, clean hotel - but the self-service aspect does have its pros and cons (you just don't have the 24/7 support you might have at another hotel when little things go wrong etc.).

GGuest UserThis hostel has a practical and functional location only. The only reason to stay here is for it’s convenient pickup and drop off stop for tours and the airport. The room was a 4 bed dorm and was stark. Located opposite the kitchen and above the main entrance meant it was quite noisy too. The bunks are very, very basic. There aren’t charging points at each bed in this particular dorm (3) and the blanket provided is a decorative throw. The cleaning left a lot to be desired. Regularly had to ask reception for hand soap in the toilet, paper towels and toilet paper. The Wi-Fi is non-existent and the reception staff are totally ambivalent; they are pleasant but absolutely no desire to help. Plausible deniability comes to mind. You only stay here for the location that allows you access to all that Iceland has to offer.

GGuest UserKex… Ugh such a frustrating review to write. I really wanted to like the Kex hostel it has its good points, but overall was the worst hostel stay I have had in Iceland. I’ll give you my very detailed opinion. The Bad… -Lacking in the toilet paper department!!! We were on floor 4 there were several private bathrooms with showers and also separate locker room style bathrooms. At 7:30 AM I ran to the bathroom after finishing my business realized there was no TP! Ugh. Anyway afterwards I looked through the different open stalls with toilets. Only 3 toilets on the whole 4th floor had TP! To me having adequate TP is an essential thing. The bathrooms weren’t restocked until 10AM ish. And we aren’t even in peak tourist season. We mentioned the issue to the staff and they said “just call next time you need something” kinda hard to “just call” when you have already done your business in the bathroom and you need something to wipe with! They need to have staff check the bathrooms more frequently. -The kitchen is sad in the “equipment” department. One of the reasons we stay at hostels is to cook our own food. Maybe they are trying to push buying food from their restaurant. I get that they get a lot of traffic. But the cooking pan selection is -Terrible- nasty old pans that the thrift shop would discard. Janky handles, and interior coating mega gouged out. Don’t come here expecting to cook at least on level 4. -No way to make coffee!!! Again they probably want you to pay for their breakfast. But there is no option to make coffee. No coffee pot, machine, or way to make a filter pour over etc. Don’t bring coffee grounds expecting to make your morning brew. There was an electric kettle, but again no way to make coffee unless you brought instant. -The showers need a good bleach and scrub. The walls had black mold growing on them. Considering the fact that Kex was our most expensive hostel in Iceland (we paid 20,906 for a private double, with linens, and shared bathrooms…or $153 US) compare Kex to the Svjarborg in Stykkisholmer $90 US or Halfdan HI Hostel $63 US ( in both we had a private double & shared bath) but both were awesome and had a fully equipped kitchen with decent quality pots, options to make coffee, and plenty of toilet paper. I understand that being in the city we can expect to pay more. BUT I expect that price to include: -enough toilet paper -a means to make coffee -decent cookware. The good… -The location is great. Easy walking distance to the main shops/streets. And the ocean right across the highway. -Awesome “vibe” cool decor, lots of couches/lounge areas. -Entertaining/Social. In the evening there was group song trivia in the main area, and in another a live band. -Our room a private double with shared bathroom was large, and we slept well. (Note: I have never stayed in a “quiet” hostel so I always travel with a sleep soundtrack on my phone and a melatonin) -The staff was all polite In conclusion, I have traveled on 4 contine

GGuest UserWe stayed for 3 nights b&b in April. We arrived early and our allocated rooms weren't all ready but the reception staff amended our room so that we could check in. We also received a room upgrade to a balcony room on the top floor. The room was spacious, good size bathroom and comfortable bed. There was plenty of wardrobe space but no drawers to store smaller items. There was just one issue with the rooms on the top floor, which was they were very hot. Even with the radiators turned off, the staff advised that the heat from the lower rooms rise and can make them warm. There are just 2 small top windows so didn't allow much cooler air to circulate. There was a good selection at breakfast with English and continental breakfast options, tea, coffee, water and fresh fruit juices. The restaurant food was also good and comparable prices to in Reykjavik centre. Good service from the breakfast and restaurant/ bar staff. We used the spa on one of the days and enjoyed this. There are seperate saunas in the male and female changing rooms, with joint hot tub (not jacuzzi), warm small pool and small cold plunge pool. There are seating areas in the pool area with drink service. Towels and robes are provided. The hotel is located outside of Reykjavik centre and about 30 mins walk into the centre. There are a few supermarkets locally, we didn't find any within a short walking distance but there might be some around. The hotel benefits from free parking right outside and we didn't have an issue with the space being full. This was a good location for us as a base to explore the island. The hotel was clean and well equipped to meet our needs. The only issue was the heat in the bedrooms, but apart from that we had an enjoyable stay.

GGuest UserThis was our favorite hostel in Reykjavik and I wish we'd realized this sooner so we could've stayed again on our way back from exploring the countryside. The room and shared spaces were clean, and the breakfast was more than adequate. Our family of three had a private room with a shared bathroom. The wifi was excellent and so was the location. You really can't go wrong. We even found free street parking.

JJos LynThe location is not the best but 20 minutes walk from the downtown is acceptable. Love the designs of the hotel and the amenities. The room is very spacious and has most of the things you’d need for a stay. It is really nice to see coffee machine and fruits in room. Everything is very neat and tidy. However, the check-in process was not satisfactory. It is really hard to reach out to a staff in the hotel. The self-check-in process requires an email from the hotel that tells you the room number and passcode. Since the only pin is got was the booking pin but not the check-in pin, it took me long time to realise I did not possess the check-in pin to enter the hotel. The hotline provided by the hotel was not working at all. Thankfully trip.com’s CS was really helpful in contacting the hotel for me. The hotel’s staff were really friendly and polite but the fact that I didn’t receive the room no and passcode beforehand was still very frustrating. Therefore the best advice to book this hotel is to check whether you have the room number and passcode at least 1-2 days before your stay. Other than the check-in issue, I had a nice stay here.

GGuest UserCheck-in was pretty smooth. I was allocated the room just above the main entrance as such, it can be quite noisy whenever people get in or out of the hostel with the door slamming and some vibration felt! The bathroom and wc are fairly clean and tidy. Very cosy common area to mingle and make new friends. Kitchen has all the basic necessity. I especially like the small area right outside my room where i can have a light meal and nice view of the surroundings. Bought the unlimited bus rides ticket via the Klappid app for travel within the Reykjavik capital city and bus svc 12 is just few steps away. If time permits, you can even walk to the coastal area for sight-seeing. Overall, i am very satisfied with my 8 nights stay at Laekur hostel!

What travellers say about Reykjavik attractions

Discover these places worth visiting in Reykjavik and select a hotel nearby for added convenience
Hallgrimskirkja
徐徐霞客RrHall Grimms Cathedral, Iceland, this church is a very memorable church, from the appearance, very simple and elegant atmosphere. Listening to locals, this church has been built for almost half a century or so.
Aurora Reykjavík - The Northern Lights Center
徐徐霞客RrThe Northern Lights Center in Reykjavik, Iceland, this place listens to the locals to introduce it is an aurora viewing center completed by four young people in an independent business. The most important thing to go to Iceland is to chase the aurora. This place is very good to watch the laser style.
Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre
Ssculptor哈帕音乐厅位于冰岛首都雷克雅未克的市中心,这座玻璃建筑从外面看不是很显眼,但进到里面就很有特色了,里面的线条优雅,很有抽象性。
Reykjavík's City Hall
徐徐霞客RrThis place is very interesting. He is located around the Blue Lake in Iceland. If you go, you can call more than four people to go in and play. Because there are few people, it will feel boring? If there are many people, it will be very hilarious to play, and the charge is relatively affordable.
National Museum of Iceland
徐徐霞客RrTo a place or a country trip, the first to visit should be his museum, it is understood that his local past and present life will be more in-depth play, this place's museum covers an area of particularly large, if the complete tour will take a whole day.
Whales of Iceland
MMikhail MishaIceland is located in the center of the North Atlantic, and the importance of geographical location is self-evident. This most Nordic-style metal sculpture in the center of Reykjavik, which shows Iceland's national style and fishing industry, one of the pillars of the economy, is a national symbol!
Perlan
EelmmPerlan is a beautiful musuem, perfect for a leisure day in Reykjavik. If you only visit one attraction in reykjavik, it has to be perlan. (you can skip aurora reykjavik and lava show) We took the bus 18 to ‘perlan’ bus stop where we walked through a little garden. there was a lot of people on a rainy tuesday afternoon. we easily spent about 3 hours there: watch shows about volcano and aurora, enter ice cave & learn about iceland’s geology. Apparently the restaurant rotates around in the dome, but we didn’t have time to try.
Inside The Volcano
DDEAR张小球The crater is a trip for many hiking enthusiasts. It is very special and geographical wonder. Although it is relatively short when staying, it feels very unique and spectacular. The traffic is actually very convenient.
Lake Tjornin
徐徐霞客RrAlthough the pot of Iceland's Tonin Tiger is not the largest lake in the local area, he is a very famous lake and a lake that locals love to go to. Because of his geographical location, it is more forbidden from the city. So it's especially convenient for people to come here
Laugavegur
小小鱼的麻薯片The taste is pure and unique, the environment is clean and the service is thoughtful and enthusiastic
