Scenic Hotels in Ella

"The hotel was a bit hard to find. We stopped the car and the driver called for someone to pick us up, but no one came after waiting for about ten minutes, so the driver had to call again. The room was very small, and the swimming pool water was murky. We booked dinner, but it was a very simple buffet with only a few dishes. Among all the accommodations during our 9-day island tour, this guesthouse was the smallest and had the most basic facilities. However, the mountain view from the room was quite nice."

"Honestly, if I hadn't found this hotel, I might have given up on Ella. There are so many ugly little guesthouses in Ella that I really didn't want to stay in. Turns out, I made the right choice! The hotel has excellent aesthetics; although it's not large, every detail is exquisite. The balcony is absolutely stunning! It perfectly matches the secluded scenery I had imagined! The pool is especially beautiful, and there are even net hammocks to lounge in! The hotel isn't accessible by car, so you'll need to transfer to a tuk-tuk. Just contact the hotel in advance."

"Keeping in mind this is a 3 star hotel, the positives are the rooms are big with a balcony looking out at amazing views (ours anyway), and the pool is clean and quite big also with amazing views and a concrete elephant water feature!!! The location of the hotel is pretty good too - far enough from other properties to be quiet but close enough to Ella main drag that you can walk in 10-15 minutes or pay a tuk tuk driver double the rate of Colombo to get to and from. The big negative for us was that despite being told upon checking in that the room would be cleaned every day, it was not. And I was told the reason why was that we didn’t hand in our key for it to be done - which seems bizarre after staying in hotels for decades and not being told to or having to hand in a key in order to get a standard daily room clean. The insinuation that it was our fault for not handing in a key (not that we were told to do so on checking in) was extremely irritating. Food was ok but overpriced so we ate elsewhere (lots of options). There were lots of little things in the rooms that could be easily addressed to make them nicer - definitely not having ripped old bath towels, and removing an empty TV bracket from the wall (like a TV used to be there but not anymore - or was it just our room, who knows). All these little things add up to I really think the room rate is too high - but we are here in the high season so maybe that’s just the going rate."

"This was the most perfect hotel I stayed in during my trip to Sri Lanka; it definitely deserves a five-star rating. We booked an executive villa. Downstairs was a large bed, and upstairs were two slightly smaller mattresses. The electric curtains opened onto a nearly panoramic glass balcony with views of the tea plantations, the Three Arch Bridge, and passing trains. The mini-bar was complimentary, with dozens of tea bags and four free glass bottles of water. Alcohol and other drinks were chargeable. The swimming pool was beautiful and photogenic, like an infinity pool. Definitely choose the option that includes dinner. Dinner was a five-course à la carte meal, very delicious and unique, but drinks were not included. Breakfast also included a very special crispy egg bun. The path to the restaurant offered many beautiful photo opportunities. The only downside was the abundance of mosquitoes. The only two bites I got during the entire trip were from mosquito bites I received while sleeping here at night."

"Ella Flower Garden Resort Hotel is located in the central city street of Ella, Sri Lanka, very close to 98 Swimming and Entertainment Center and Adam's Peak. The location is okay and the breakfast is average."

"The hotel is 200 metres from the railway, it is possible to walk through it to the waterfall and to the nine-year-old bridge, enjoying stunning views of the mountains. The view from the balcony to the jungle, it is possible to see how the monkeys jump on the trees. In my room was dirty, repairs of the past century. Hotel owner friendly, friendly. But he is building another house, so under the windows of the building, noise, drilling from 8am and 8pm."
