NetotrevinoWoah! This is one of the best ryokans we’ve been to. The staff was super attentive and could speak some English, the rooms were amazing (see the photos!). The onsen in the room was fantastic so there was no need for us to go to the public or private onsen downstairs.
The hotel is located 3 minutes away from the bus station and conveniently situated near everything. We’ve stayed at other ryokans but this one was top notch! We strongly recommend to stay at this place and will try to come back again with friends and family. Oh! The food was wow, too! We had breakfasts and dinners included and the sukiyaki dinner offered Yamagata A5 meat which was to die for. Breakfast was also great!

This ryokan-style hotel boasts a beautiful location on a snow-covered mountain, right next to a stunning ski resort. The accommodations are very convenient, featuring separate shower and toilet facilities within the room. There's also a private onsen available for a small fee, offering a wonderfully private outdoor bathing experience. The hotel provides excellent shuttle services to various destinations; you can easily request a ride to the Zao Ropeway to see the Snow Monsters, as well as to restaurants, the bus station, and more.

The hotel has a Showa-era feel. There's no elevator, so you have to carry your luggage up yourself, thankfully it's only on the second floor. There are six private baths that can be booked in advance, and you can use them freely after 9 pm as long as no one is there – it's fantastic! After soaking in the hot springs, they even give you complimentary milk. Dinner was Yamagata beef shabu-shabu, which was delicious. I'd definitely stay here again next time I'm in Zao!

Guest UserLocated on the top of a business building linking to the Yamagata station.
You won’t have to be worried even if it’s snowing or raining.
A side note to travellers from the hotter climate, the hotel doesn’t supply air conditioning during winter. Instead it has a small webbed facility that allows outside air to flow into the room. This slight chills the room. However during the day, the room will be super hot.
Initially we had a room facing the sun and when we checked in, the room is super hot. Called the customer service only to find out they didn’t have air conditioning during winter and we have to rent a fan from them.
After a slight communication, the customer service is kind enough to upgrade us to a bigger room which is slightly cooler. Big props to the customer service lady! 5 stars service !

The location is just across the road from the central cable car station. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the bus terminal to the hotel. There is a small slope of about 800 meters. One berth and two meals can eat breakfast and dinner made by the elders every day. There is a laundry and dryer. There is a snow drying room. The hot water supply of the shared bathhouse is unstable. Sometimes there is only a slight temperature and no hot water to take a bath. You can soak in the hot springs every day. It is relatively simple. I still recommend this homestay.

shawndaikiExcellent location short walk from Yamagata station.
A better location might be located on the east side of Yamagata station as there are more food and beverage and convenience stores available.
Dated property but cozy and functional. A man made onsen within the property doesn’t hurt. We also had a rental car and overnight parking was ¥600.
Complimentary breakfast however you must account for time and occupancy, we did not have time to enjoy it due to the lines.
Service was top notch. Hotel was helpful with directions and translation.
A senior lady went the extra mile to assist with contacting next hotel and even considered train timings as well as advising us to stay in Yamagata and not go early as there was nothing available in the next onsen town.

Rosina KimIt’s quite a big hotel, 3 buildings are connected and there are many rooms. The rooms are a bit outdated but still maintained well. Service was good and flexible. Transportation to the village is quite necessary when the roads are covered by snow, especially with luggage. They have free shuttle bus which is great.
Best parts: 1. Dinner semi-buffet has unlimited alcoholic beverages including local sake, draft beer and wines. 2. Ski & board rental shop is right outside of the hotel. Although hotel only accept cash for the lift ticket, you can rent the gear (rental shop accepts credit card) and ski down the hill (20sec) to the cable ticket counter to buy ticket, pay by credit card. The location has lifts 5,6 and cable 4

Guest UserThe hotel's onsen (hot spring) was incredibly appealing and clean. Its location is super convenient, less than a 10-minute walk to both Zao Onsen town and the ski resort. The staff were also very professional and attentive. I experienced this firsthand after checking out: there was an issue with my luggage that I had asked them to ship for me, as the delivery information was incomplete and the courier refused to accept it. The hotel promptly emailed me to understand the situation. Given that I only had two days left in Japan and had already traveled far from Zao, the hotel thoughtfully assisted by explaining things to the logistics company and advocating on my behalf. In the end, they even arranged for a special vehicle to deliver the refused luggage to the nearest JR station's courier counter for immediate arrangement. I am truly grateful for the hotel's assistance and swift action!

I travel in winter season. There is one thing that need to be improved immediately is central air vent and window. First, I am cool liked person. I would like to open a little bit of window to let the air flow. The central air conditioner provide the warm air but it make me feel a little tight.
