We arrived to a friendly welcome from Chris. Our dog friendly room had a very comfy bed, nice decor and a bath with a very good shower too with very nice thick, fluffy towels . Nice furnishings and carpets throughout, all to a high standard. As well as coffee and tea, the bottles of water and home made shortbread biscuits were a very nice touch. Each day the room was cleaned and towels etc replaced, the rooms were really well looked after to a high standard. The location is excellent, opposite the village green, in the quiet village of Swinton. Lovely, well kept, enclosed garden at the back and local walks nearby too. Again all very dog friendly - and I stress friendly and not just "dog tolerant"! Service throughout the evening was friendly and welcoming. Dinner was excellent as was the beer and the wine. The only slight disappointment was the breakfast. Juices, fruit, cereals etc are available but you have to ask for them. The Scottish breakfast was very small and needed much more on the plate in my opinion - this comment was raised with the duty manager though and the feedback was grateful received. The eggs Benedict and kippers were excellent. This hotel is perfect for anyone visiting the area for leisure or for business - you'll get a very friendly welcome!

Fantastic venue for a short break. We stayed in room 4 which was a comfortable large double with views over the village green. All staff were excellent throughout but the best aspect of our stay was the quality of the cooking. Best bit of roast pork belly we've ever eaten!

A warm welcome from efficient and hospitable staff. Our room was super - it was spacious, warm, tastefully decorated, and had a large and comfortable bed. The ambience in the bar on a cold night was perfect, with a roaring fire and comfortable seating. The food menu had around 8 starters and mains, but we were spoilt for choice. Everything we ate was tasty and well presented. Likewise breakfast was very good. This is a smashing village inn /hotel which I would highly recommend.

We stayed at the Wheatsheaf for 2 nights. I had injured my ankle and knee 1 day before and was thrilled that they had ground floor rooms and handicapped baths. The room was very nice and the bath was excellent. We had a wonderful dinner twice (fresh & local ingredients) and also 2 excellent breakfasts. The staff were friendly, and we enjoyed the smaller, quiet ambiance and how we were treated like friends. We're already planning on returning and we highly recommend the hotel and restaurant.

Loved this hotel it was first class, the staff very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. The bedroom was just right, even a top sheet on the bed. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. There are lots more of places to visit and the roads are very quiet.

The room was dirty, the staff was unpleasant, food tasted like dog food... The aircon didn't work, the fridge didn't work, the menu was as basic as I've ever seen, wasn't asked if I enjoyed my stay or I would have pointed all this out. I was ****** into a so-called upgrade for an extra 45 pounds a night and I was shocked when I got to my room. It was very basic. I'll never recommend this hotel to anyone and I'll never stay there again, even at half the price. I stay at a lot of hotels, but this was the worst value by far!

We had a fantastic stay, the hotel was immaculate, the staff were so friendly and the service and food at both dinner and breakfast was just perfection. Best omelette I’ve ever had! There were some lovely touches in the room, the bottled water and delicious homemade shortbread. When travelling to borders for business in future I would absolutely endeavour to stay here again.

We stayed for three nights at the Wheatsheaf together with our dog while we were visiting relatives locally. The room was quite generous although the clothes hanging arrangement was quite restricted. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially as they had to cope with a power cut from 7.00 to 12.00 and make alternative arrangements for breakfast that day The food was very good and reasonably priced

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome . The hotel is spotlessly clean and the rooms styled in contemporary decor . We dined in house and the food was exceptional - great flavours, nicely presented and not overly priced . Breakfast was delicious too . Michael , the owner and his team are very friendly . We would certainly recommend a stay here . Thank you
