2-Star Hotels in Sydney

A fabulous old historic hotel in the heart of the Sydney CBD offering very affordable accommodation. The Occy features a lively, high-quality restaurant on Level 1 and a Bistro in the back bar, so food offerings are outstanding. The hotel has undergone recent renovations but they have lovingly maintained the heritage of this grand old pub. Keep in mind that this is pub-style accommodation at affordable rates and you will love this place.

Location: Great! Close to everything Facilities: no ironing board that’s readily available for guests. Long walk to the toilet passing through people in dining, kitchen and living… awkward. Elevator was broken. Reception was a mess with linen skips all over the place but the receptionist was extremely friendly! Experience: I booked a room for myself. Didn’t realized, until I get their, that the room was bare with only a bed and a bedside table. No toilet. No table or chair in the room. I could bring a friend in but I didn’t coz you walk through a corridor passing through the kitchen, dining and living area. You can hear people talk whilst in your room. Overall: I will come back if I want to save money but never if I want privacy and peace of mind. Was it worth it? I’d prefer to pay extra just to get my privacy. This place is for backpackers. They offer a single room but it is extremely disappointing. I booked a room thinking I’d feel different but it was pretty much, a backpacker experience, not that I am against that… but wasn’t expecting. Ultimate, the room was spacious but bare. Just a bed, bedside table and clothing rack. No cabinets even!

The location is in the middle of the CBD and it is convenient to go to the sights. The room is a bit old and the WIFI signal is weak. The elevator has to manually open and close the door. The elevator has to open the door once and the floor of the first floor is not aligned. It is necessary to bend over and step on the way, which is terrible! Be careful of safety incidents. There is a waitress who doesn't care.

I stayed in the lodge for a month for a work course. It is modest accomodation, as you would expect given it is so much more affordable than other accomodation options. The shared bathroom areas look new and were immaculately clean at all times. The kitchen area was also clean. The lodge was quiet and I slept well each night. The staff were all friendly and helpful and lovely people. I would stay at the lodge again if in Sydney for an extended period.

I did well, as in the '80 I was poor and running around Australia promoting the first two editions of my first novel, Permission to Kill, about the Viet Nam War. When the weather was inclement I would have to duck into low end hotels. Here I am, back in Sydney trying to rekindle the flame of fame pushing my eBook reditions of all of my novels. So into the Wynyard I went. It hasn't changed a bit, it's still a 2.5 star hotel. Small room, with a window that rattled in the wind and leaked in the rain. Shared, bathrooms. Low lighting, with the noise of downtown Sydney ringing like a constant alarm. Ahhhhh, home.

It was nothing special. The toilets weren't very good, and the kitchen was really dirty. I've never seen anything like it. I didn't cook there because it was too gross. It smelled so bad that I was about to throw up. Furthermore, they stated that the remaining amount should be paid upon arrival, but they still chose to withdraw the money from my account two days before my arrival. This incurred quite a few fees, as my friend was supposed to pay upon arrival, not me, so he had to send money to me instead (extra fees). I am writing this via email. They apologized profusely and seemed like they wanted to try to find a solution. However, I haven't heard from them since.

It says that it is a standard room, but the ordinary room is actually arranged.

Beautiful building, great location to Randwick racecourse. Rooms were clean and tidy. Receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Great communication leading up to stay as well. Undercover parking available but our car wouldn’t fit (too high) so they accommodated us by allowing us to park in the driveway. Easy to access after hours. Comfortable bed. No plug in the bathroom at all, take an extension cord with you if you plan on staying here and you use an electric shaver, there’s a mirror in the room that you can to use for hair straightener etc. Some rooms have private bathrooms for extra money so be sure to check before booking - we had a private bathroom. Clothes hanger was directly above the tea/coffee/kettle so hanging a dress and a suit was awkward if you plan on using tea/coffee area. Can hear other guests moving around during the night, especially as our room was next to the shared bathroom, hubby woke up the first night to someone throwing up! It gets very noisy during the night, walls are thin. Hot water in our bathroom took ages to warm up, a lot of wasted water. Tea and coffee provided but I’m not an instant coffee drinker so if Coffex instant coffee isn’t to your taste then byo. The exhaust fan in our bathroom wasn’t working so the tiny bathroom got steamy very quickly so had to open the window. The shower itself is super small as well. But all toiletries (shampoo conditioner and body wash) provided. If you are looking for somewhere to stay to go to the races then this place is very suitable. We walked which took 20 minutes at a casual pace but you could cross the road and jump on the light rail up to the next station if you didn’t want to walk.
