The National Art Museum of Catalonia Barcelona

The National Art Museum of Catalonia is located in the National Palace built for the 1929 Barcelona World Expo on Montjuic Mountain, 173 meters high in Barcelona. Catalonia, a nation with its own language, was once a European principality, and is now an autonomous region in the northeast of Spain, with Barcelona as its capital. The National Art Museum of Catalonia, I initially thought it was a regional cultural and art museum in Catalonia, but in fact it is also a very influential national museum in Spain and the largest museum in Barcelona. Tracing back to the Barcelona Classical Museum in 1880, the initial collection came from church relics. It gradually expanded and merged, and it was not until 2004 that it was fully open to the public in the "National Palace" built for the 1929 Barcelona World Expo, becoming the museum we see today. The collection is rich, nearly 250,000 pieces, with nearly 6,000 on display all year round, showing the art history of Catalonia. The current exhibits are mostly sculptures, paintings, wood carvings and posters, etc. In addition to the artworks in the Catalonia region, it also collects and exhibits many masterpieces. The most famous altar painting is a work from around 1123 AD - a portrait of Jesus. I think it is unexpected that a museum that is not listed as a key itinerary has so many exhibits. Perhaps there are too many attractions in Spain worth watching or I am too ignorant. The rich exhibits have given me a lot. The main exhibition area is divided into two floors, with a total of about 130 exhibition rooms. The exhibits are diverse, ancient, and highly ornamental. The modern art exhibition area also has many works from the 20th century, including some works and advertisements from the Spanish Civil War. Ticket: 12 euros, free for the elderly over 65 and children, and free for students at different times. There are restaurants and cafes inside. A closer look, half a day is not enough. You can rest and dine in the museum. The Montjuic Mountain where the National Art Museum of Catalonia is located can be said to be a landmark building in Barcelona. The most conspicuous building group on the mountain that can be seen from a distance is the "National Palace". Of course, standing on the mountain of the museum, you can also overlook the cityscape. The main venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1992 Summer Olympics is near the museum, and there are also Spanish villages, Montjuic Castle, Magic Fountain and other attractions nearby, enough for a day's itinerary. There is a special tourist loop bus passing by. The transportation is very convenient.
