Spiritual Batu Cave Murugan

Took a return train trip from Kuala Lumpur Sentral to visit the Batu Caves with the train taking around 35 minutes one way. The caves themselves are interesting and the large gold-colored statue of Lord Murugan and the painted stairs leading to the main caves is what a lot of tourists visit to take photos of. Yes, the monkeys can be aggressive but on my visit, mid-afternoon, only saw a few people being targeted by the monkeys who were carrying juice bottles or other items that attracted the monkeys' attention. Inside the caves themselves the concrete floor is wet and the area has some rubbish (plastic bottles and cans) and the odd banana and other fruits that the monkeys are eating. Visited for just over an hour and did not visit any of the other paid attractions (e.g. dark cave) whilst there. As others have suggested the area is littered with rubbish and maybe a small entry fee would allow people to be employed to ensure rubbish is not dropped on the ground in the first place or bins are secured to prevent monkeys from pulling litter from the bins. The food and drink vendors near the entry to the train station had reasonably priced drinks and ice creams for sale. Travelogist Hints: Batu Caves is a significant Hindu religious site housing several temples and shrines. Murugan Temple here is renowned for its 42.7-meter statue of Lord Murugan. A steep climb of 272 steps leads to the main cave, challenging yet rewarding with the caves presenting a breathtaking spectacle of limestone formations. not good for heart patients and very old people. Batu Caves is a hubbub of activity during the Thaipusam Festival, where thousands of devotees and visitors come together in a grand chariot procession. It's worth planning for Thaipusam, who are interested in worshiping in the divine day. It's not worth it for crowd haters to plan on thaipusam. You’ll find an array of indigenous flora and fauna, including the playful macaque monkeys, a staple of the caves. No toilet on the hilltop. So visit the toilet before climbing the stairs. Beware of monkeys who don't handle anything in hand. They are treating those kinds of stuff as eatable and trying to get from you. Have a pleasant visit! Harohara!!!!
