The Dongyang Nanjiang Reservoir lies in serene beauty, with emerald waters nestled among picturesque mountains

Dongyang is located in the central part of Zhejiang Province, known as 'seven mountains, two rivers, and a portion of fields.' The region is characterized by three mountain ranges and two rivers, creating a terrain where 'three mountains embrace two basins, and two basins contain two rivers.' At the upper reaches of the two rivers, the largest reservoir in Jinhua, Hengjin Reservoir, and the second largest, Nanjiang Reservoir, were constructed. The Nanjiang Reservoir dam site is 36 kilometers away from the downtown area of Dongyang. The reservoir controls a catchment area of 210 square kilometers, with a total capacity of 1.168 billion cubic meters. Construction of the reservoir began in December 1969 and was completed in November 1972. It is now a first-class water source protection area, providing water for the daily life and production of over 300,000 residents in towns such as Huxi, Hengdian, and Nanma. To protect this clear lake, the Dongyang municipal government has banned fishing and netting, and the entire reservoir area is monitored by satellite. There is also no tourism development.
