Hyein Temple

Hyein Temple, as its name suggests, has a connection to Korea. Originally built in 927 and named Hyein Temple, it gained prominence in 1085 when Uicheon, a Goryeo prince and monk, traveled across the ocean to study Buddhism there. He donated scriptures and funds, leading to the temple's renown and the common name, Goryeo Temple. Flourishing during the Song and Yuan dynasties, it was repeatedly rebuilt and destroyed, with no structures remaining by the late Qing dynasty. Reconstructed in 2007 based on the "Ancient Goryeo Temple Map," the temple features the unique architecture of the Rotating Scripture Library Hall, the Four Heavenly Kings, Buddhist statues, and murals, all lifelike and benevolent. The "Rotating Scripture Library" within the hall, standing 13.6 meters tall, is carved from nanmu wood and decorated with gold foil, and can be rotated manually. The Four Heavenly Kings, holding their magical weapons, have gentle expressions, unlike the usual fierce depictions.
