Classical style of a century-old house｜Gantangdi

Located on Caine Road in Mid-Levels Central, it takes quite a bit of effort to get to the top of Kom Tong Mansion. This building was built in 1914 and has a history of over a hundred years. It was named after the first owner, Ho Kom Tong. Ho Kam Tong is the younger brother of Sir Robert Ho Tung. He is an outstanding local businessman, a famous community leader and philanthropist. He held a prominent position in the Chinese and Eurasian business community in the early 20th century and was one of the most influential figures at the time. Kom Tong House is a building of comprehensive classical style. This style was very popular in Hong Kong during the Edwardian period. The walls of the building are made of red bricks, the doors and windows are decorated with granite, and the terrace has exquisite and gorgeous iron railings. Kom Tong Terrace is one of the first buildings in Hong Kong to be built with steel frames and have in-wall wiring. The interior of the building is magnificent, combining Baroque and Rococo architectural features. The basement is connected to the second floor by a wide and magnificent staircase with exquisite handrails.
