The starting point of the eastern end of the Great Wall. The Great Wall starts from Shanhaiguan in the east and stretches to Jiayuguan in the west. However, the actual eastern starting point of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall is at the summit of Hushan in Dandong, Liaoning. It is located on the banks of the Yalu River, perched atop Hushan, turning northward and then westward. From there, the Great Wall winds through mountains and ridges, crosses deserts, and leaps over the Gobi, reaching all the way to Jiayuguan. Over 30 years ago, archaeologists discovered the remains of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall at the summit of Hushan in Dandong, Liaoning. According to archaeological excavations and verifications, it was originally built in the fifth year of the Chenghua reign of Emperor Xianzong of the Ming Dynasty, in 1469 AD, to prevent the Jurchen tribes from moving southward. The Hushan Great Wall was constructed with its starting point on the western bank of the Yalu River, extending westward to connect with the Shanhaiguan Great Wall.
