Shenyang Cathedral

Shenyang Cathedral, also known as Shenyang South Gate Church, is located at No. 40, Nalejiao Road, Shenhe District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. It was originally built in the 12th year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1873) by the French missionary Jean-Baptiste Régis. In the 26th year of the Guangxu era (1900), the Shenyang Cathedral was burned down by the Boxer Rebellion. In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), it was rebuilt on the original site. In 2013, Shenyang Cathedral was designated by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units. The church is located in the east courtyard, facing south from the north, with a length of 66 meters from south to north, a width of 17 meters from east to west, and a total height of 40 meters. It is a brick-concrete structure with plain gray bricks. The front top is highlighted with two square drop-shaped spires side by side, and the upper part is decorated with a 'cross' frame. The building covers an area of more than 1,100 square meters, with 12 pillars in the hall. Its scale is one of the largest in the country and is a typical example of Gothic architecture.
