Relive Ayutthaya's Ancient Glory

Pra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, or simply Ayutthaya is an ancient city which served as Siam's second capital after Sukhothai. Strategically situated along three rivers which connected the city to the sea, it was stablished in 1351 by Ramathibodi I, also known as U Thong, and continued to flourish for 400 years until the Kingdom's demise. On its glory days, Ayutthaya is considered a modern city, with very modern architecture very much advanced of its time and are comparable to any big European cities. It was included a complex of grand temples and and pagodas which were estimated to be not less than 400, some of which still stand today and are protected after being considered UNESCO Heritage site. Ayutthaya is also said to be the precursor of the modern day Bangkok. Located about 70-80 kilometers north of the present day capital, Bangkok, The Ancient City of Ayutthaya and what remains thereof can be reached through a quick 90 minute train ride from Hua Lumphong Station. One can opt to take the bus at the Northeast Terminal.
