Baiyang Ancient Village in Shexian County | Quiet with few people | No admission fee

Walk through the Baiyang Trail, you need to pass through the Baiyang Ancient Village. Walking along the bluestone alleys from the entrance to the end of the village, you can see old houses with history everywhere. The village is tidy and clean, and the villagers you meet are very hospitable. They will greet and say hello to us tourists proactively, showing great enthusiasm towards people. Baiyang Village is located in the northeast of Shexian County, separated by mountains and rivers. Historically, the people of Baiyang used to enter Huizhou City through the south gate, hence it was commonly known as the Southern Township of Shexian County. Baiyang Village is actually an orchid-shaped strip basin, originated from two main streams, converging at Xin Qiao Tou. The highest peak in the northwest, Wangyangjian, is 820 meters above sea level, bordering Linxi Town of Jixi County. Surrounded by mountains, the village offers picturesque countryside views. Baiyang Village has a long history, dating back to the late Eastern Han Dynasty. It was named after the Bai and Yang families who moved in first and had the largest population. Baiyang Village is a historic village with rich cultural resources and was listed in the fourth batch of China's traditional villages in 2016. The village currently has nearly a hundred ancient dwellings, among which the more famous ones include Xiehetang, Wubentang, and Mingdetang, where 'three carvings' of wood, brick, and stone can be seen everywhere inside these ancient houses; originally there were twenty-four ancestral halls, and now five are well-preserved, including Cheng's Ancestral Hall and Yue Gong Ancestral Hall; there are four water mouths including Baiyangyuan Zongshuikou; it owns representative projects of intangible cultural heritage such as bamboo weaving craft, traditional skills of making ancient Huizhou architectural materials; the Baiyang Ancient Trail inside the territory was built during the Ming Dynasty and is the fourth batch of cultural relics protection units in Shexian County. This ancient village does not charge an admission fee, and you can play freely. We went there late this time, it was already 5 pm after walking through the ancient trail, so we hurriedly walked and looked around, taking a few photos on the go, and plan to go again when the rapeseed flowers bloom.
