Shiquangu Street Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Shiquan is suitable for a leisurely visit
Interesting things in the ancient city include various alleys, and the main street has some shops selling small items. There's also a yuzu tea, which is very delicious. The food is somewhat monotonous, mostly stone pot fish, but the kangkangmo is very tasty. Since people still live there, it retains a sense of liveliness and isn't too commercialized. It's not big, but it's quite interesting.
Checking in at Shiquan Ancient Street, a water town behind the willows
Strolling through the cobblestone streets of the ancient town is like traveling through a thousand years of time, savoring the essence of history and culture.
Why bother going to the south of the Yangtze River
When you can be at Shiquan
Beyond the hustle and bustle
There is always a water town standing there quietly
Its residents have been living in a poetic landscape
And it holds many old stories
That is the water town behind the willows
It is more rustic than Nanxun, more serene than Wuzhen
Like a paradise on earth
In the springtime water town behind the willows
The rolling hills are covered with lush greenery
Wild flowers bloom wildly by the emerald lake
In the distance are small bridges over flowing water, nearby are white walls and black tiles
Thick strokes of color blend into a vivid oil painting
It is indeed the beautiful scenery of the misty mountains and rivers in Shiquan, the 'Little Jiangnan' of Shaanxi
|||There are really many hidden gem towns around Xi'an that are perfect for short holidays or weekend trips.
How can you not come to southern Shaanxi in the summer?
This time I went to Shiquan, known as the 'Little Jiangnan' of Shaanxi.
Shiquan is not just 'ten beauties', the beauty and atmosphere here are doubled on rainy days🍃

🚘Self-driving route 2️⃣ days 1️⃣ night:
Xi'an-Shiquan Old Street-Houliu Water Town-Yanshan Waterfall-Han River Cruise
·
✅The route is super easy
It only takes a little over two hours from Xi'an, and neither the ancient town nor the Yanshan Waterfall scenic area has intense routes. The distances between each location are also very close, which is very suitable for family trips and lazy people (like me😂)
✅Stunning Han River
I have to say that the Han River is really beautiful~ Whether it's the mainstream or the small tributaries, it's all emerald green in summer! The clouds drifting through the mountains on rainy days are like a fairyland~
✅Two ancient towns
Shiquan Old Street and Houliu Ancient Town are not big, and it's very easy to walk through. Besides the main street, the small alleys and porches of Shiquan Old Street offer views of the Han River that are very cinematic~
✅Hidden gem Yanshan Waterfall
Yanshan Waterfall can be said to be one of the most comfortable scenic areas I have visited. The journey is moderate and not very tiring, the original forest vegetation and the emerald pool along the way are super beautiful! And there are few people, so the experience is very good
Shiquan Ancient City (Part I)
Shiquan Ancient City is located in Shiquan County, Ankang City, Shaanxi Province. In the first year of the deposed Emperor of the Western Wei Dynasty (552), it was renamed Shiquan because there were many springs in the stone crevices south of the city, and it has a history of 1458 years to date. Over the centuries, the diligent and intelligent people of Shiquan have relied on natural resources and geographical advantages to create a brilliant historical culture and modern civilization, constructing a series of exceptionally beautiful landscapes, and it has become the best-preserved ancient county town in southern Shaanxi.

Come to Zhongba Grand Canyon for oxygen
🌟Zhongba Grand Canyon
♦It's about an hour's drive from the ancient town to Zhongba Grand Canyon. Friends who want to see waterfalls can also go to Yan Mountain Waterfall, which is also very good. We chose to go to Zhongba Grand Canyon
♦The waterfall group at the entrance is really spectacular, but if there are many people, you can come back and take pictures. The way in and out of the mountain is the same
The whole journey is friendly to beginners, basically flat, no difficulty, beautiful scenery, like the landscape of Qingcheng Mountain and Emei Mountain, but what is more characteristic than Emei is that there are more mountain rocks combined with water curtain caves and green moss here
♦There are many cable bridges along the way, the most characteristic of which is the expansion cable bridge, which is very exciting but fun, and also good for taking pictures. It takes about two or three hours to go into the mountain and play, and about one hour to return
~
♦The air in Zhongba Grand Canyon is particularly fresh. Friends who want to absorb oxygen but don't want to go to Qinling Forest Park can come here
♦At noon, we went to the back street village to eat steamed noodles (sour and spicy than cold skin) and soup noodles (a bit like Chongqing small noodles)
⭐After eating, we strolled around in Houliu Water Village again. There are clear river water and green willow trees here, which are especially suitable for flying drones

⛩️Shiquan Old Street (about 2.5 hours from Xi'an)
Leave early in the morning, play in the old street first, and find a place to eat at noon nearby. There is a parking lot near the east gate of the old street. When there are not many tourists, you can visit the quiet old street, such as the Jiangxi Guild Hall, Shiquan County Office, Xinhua Bookstore, and the opera building with flying eaves and corners. After exiting the west gate of the old street, walk north to the Han River, where you can see the famous red stone bales of Shiquan. It is said that in the past, the red stone bales were where cargo ships docked, and the boatmen loaded and unloaded goods there, but now it has become a place for swimming enthusiasts to swim. It is not recommended to eat in the old street, you can find one outside the old street.

⛩️Yan Mountain Waterfall (about 15 minutes from Houliu Water Town)
This is indeed a niche and less crowded secret realm, with bamboo rafts, water wheels, pavilions, swings, wooden plank bridges, and emerald-like pool water, etc. It is recommended to wear non-slip shoes, because the stones inside are slippery with moss, but most places are still easy to walk, and the big waterfall above is the most liked.
🚘Then return to Shiquan County for accommodation (about 40 minutes)
‼️To sum up, it is more reasonable to go to Yan Mountain Waterfall, Houliu, and Han River Gorges first, and then go to Shiquan Old Street to see the night view and stay.
Day2
⛩️Han River Yanxiang Cave Scenic Area (about 1 hour from Shiquan)
Upon entering the scenic area, you can choose to walk the lake loop road, mountain road, or take a bamboo raft. ⛩️Ironing Board Ancient Town
Ironing Board Town has a history of thousands of years and is an ancient post town on the Sichuan-Chu ancient road. It is surrounded by mountains on all sides, located at the southernmost end of Shiquan, and has no commercial atmosphere. If you don't like the hustle and bustle, you can come here for an experience.

Ankang's Graceful Waters
Among the three cities in southern Shaanxi, Ankang is the most 'graceful' when it comes to water. It boasts the most abundant water resources in southern Shaanxi. Tributaries of the Han River crisscross the region like blood vessels. The 'S'-shaped Xun River in Xunyang City, the 'U'-shaped Lan River in Langao County, and others form standard water towns such as Yundou Town, Houliu Town, Xunyang Taiji City, and Shuhe Town.
Historically, south of Chang'an was the private garden for nobles to escape the summer heat, and further south was Ankang. Looking down on Chang'an from Ankang, the town became a retreat for officials weary of worldly vanity, creating a haven for hermits. Geographically, Ankang is not as remote as areas beyond the pass or Sichuan. Should the political winds in Chang'an change, the reclusive officials could still retreat or advance at will.
The mystique of Ankang is also related to its folk beliefs; Ziyang County is the only county in the country named after Taoism.
Ankang is a leisurely city, located in a hilly and river valley area. The city streets undulate, and in recent years, the rise of high-rise buildings has made it appear quite prosperous. The railway transportation is very convenient, with connections in all directions. Entering Ankang from the south through the Bashan Mountains, the long and tiring tunnels will surely leave you with a unique impression of the city.
There are not many attractions within Ankang city, but there are some old houses and churches still standing on Da and Xiao North Streets. Worth mentioning is the Gu family residence at the north end of Xiao North Street, a Huizhou-style building from the Tongzhi era of the Qing dynasty, built by the descendants of Gu Yanwu, now a famous restaurant in Ankang. The mansion looks time-honored and quaint, with courtyards, corridors, carved railings, and large red lanterns. Dining in the old house, one can't help but feel the chivalrous spirit of martial arts movies. The specialty dishes are mainly steamed bowls, and other dishes are also good. The embankment of the Han River is also a nice place to walk, with many people exercising and walking birds in the evening. Below the embankment, there are dragon boat stands, tea gardens, and beer barbecue spots. Photography enthusiasts can cross the Han River Bridge to the Anlan Tower in Anlan Park to overlook the city of Ankang.
Anlan Tower is a high point on the riverbank, built in 2002. The name of the tower is likely related to the great flood of 1983. The tower features a corridor embracing the building, with multiple eaves and a rigorous structure. Its appearance is majestic and spectacular without losing delicacy, simple and elegant without losing grandeur. It is a crystallization of the Han River's culture, formed by a collection of cultural essences from the Han River.

Xi'an to Shiquan 2-Day 1-Night Itinerary||
||. Departing from the vicinity of Xi'an to Shiquan for a spontaneous trip, but because the decision was made too late, I couldn't book a hotel 😕. However, I still had a great time and the food was good 😌. Sisters planning to travel should definitely decide and plan ahead.
🚗Transport: Self-driving 4 hours (7 hours in traffic during May Day 😅)
🏠Accommodation: Hanyin (30km from Shiquan, 1 hour drive)
Day 1️⃣: Han River (1 hour of photography) → Shiquan Ancient Town (strolling + dining for 3 hours) → Hanyin
Pic P1-2 Shiquan Ancient Town
Pic P3-4 Han River
Depart at 9 am, arrived at Shiquan at 5 pm, parked the car in a parking lot 1km away from the ancient town. The Han River is right next to the ancient town. Before visiting the town, you can go down the stairs to the riverside for photos. Stone pot fish can be enjoyed at the entrance of the ancient town, where you can choose a restaurant with online discounts, which are quite cost-effective. It's better to go early to avoid long queues. Initially, we wanted to stroll through the old city and ended up eating fish at a random restaurant at the end of the town, which was just average in taste. So, it's better to look for a place with high ratings. After dinner, there are small electric boats available for a ride along the river.
Day 2️⃣: Hanyin → Yanshan Waterfall (3 hours) → Houliu Water Town (3 hours) → Return trip
Pic P6-10 Yanshan Waterfall
Pic P11-17 Houliu Water Town
Since we couldn't book tickets online, we called the scenic area and were advised to arrive early to buy tickets on-site due to the crowd. So, we set off at 8 am for Yanshan Waterfall, but there were hardly any people when we arrived (everyone should book tickets online in advance to avoid getting up early). We started our hiking journey at 9 am. Generally, the pools at the beginning are quite beautiful, and even though it rained, the colors were not affected. After that, there weren't many impressive sights, and if you're not up for it physically, there's no need to climb to the top. There are several spots along the way where you can raft for free, but you need to queue.
The second stop was Houliu Ancient Town, a 30-minute drive from Yanshan Waterfall. The ancient town is not big, and we quickly reached the water town, which is nestled against the mountains and waters, truly poetic. There's a pier for boat rides, 100/person, but we gave up due to the long queue and took a speedboat ride instead, which was thrilling. Finally, we ended 🔚 our trip and returned to Xi'an.
✨Overall, Shiquan is definitely worth visiting, with beautiful scenery and delicious food, giving a slight impression of the Jiangnan region. The experience was very pleasant, but during holidays, there are too many cars, and parking is a problem everywhere, as well as traffic congestion. So, try not to drive into scenic areas, or it will be difficult to get out. Lastly, be sure to book some scenic spot tickets in advance to avoid buying them on-site, and try to choose stone pot fish restaurants with higher ratings. That's all, hope this can help everyone.
Guigu Ridge Scenic Area Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Yunwu Mountain Ghost Valley Scenic Spot is located in Yunwushan Town, Shiquan, Shaanxi Province. It is surrounded by the 800-year-old Qinchuan in the north and the Hanjiang River in the south. It belongs to the central area of southern Shaanxi (Qinba Mountain Area), 22KM away from the county seat. It is the highest mountain in Shiquan, with an altitude of 2008.9 meters. It is a famous Taoist mountain in Shaanxi. It is known as the "Little Wudang Mountain" and the "Southern Nanshan Mountain". The main peak is lifted by five vigorous and powerful mountains, which is called "Five Dragons". ". The peaks of the mountains are stacked, the valleys are surrounded by clear water, the trees are entwined with the ancient vines, and the four seasons are surrounded by clouds and mists. The natural scenery is wonderful and beautiful. The objective world is long, the ears can hear the noise of the sky, and the scenery around the peaks is everywhere. At the bottom of the eye, the mountains are full of water and the scenery is infinite.
Viewing rime around Changsha | Cloudy Mountain
Viewing rime is not about going to Mount Tai, but Cloudy Mountain is more cost-effective.
This obscure mountain in Anhua County, Yiyang can satisfy all your fantasies about rime. It has everything that Mount Heng has, and even more that Mount Heng doesn't have.
The most important thing is that there are few people! Few people! Few people!
On our way there, we met a few locals, and there was no one when we climbed the mountain. Here you can experience the feeling of contracting a mountain by yourself. (Of course, except for the Taoist priest and a few staff members)
