Bai Causeway in West Lake

Originally named 'Bai Sha Causeway', it is located on Gu Shan Road in West Lake District, Hangzhou, serving as the link between the urban area and the scenic area of Hangzhou. It starts from 'Broken Bridge in the Remaining Snow' in the east, passes through Jin Dai Bridge to the west, and ends at 'Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake', with a length of about 2 miles. It was called Bai Sha Causeway or Sha Causeway in Tang Dynasty, and was also known as Gu Shan Road or Shi Jin Tang in Song and Ming Dynasties. Bai Causeway stretches across the lake, dividing West Lake into the outer lake and the inner lake, and connecting Gu Shan and Bei Shan. The scenery of Bai Causeway is distinct in four seasons: peach blossoms in spring, willows in summer, osmanthus in autumn, and snow in winter, each with its unique charm. The Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi, when he was the governor of Hangzhou, wrote a poem saying, 'I love the east of the lake so much that I can't walk enough, under the shade of green poplars is the Bai Sha Causeway.' This refers to this causeway. In memory of this poet, it is called Bai Causeway.
