Wuyi Mountains

The Wuyi Mountains Scenic Area covers an area of 70 square kilometers with an average altitude of 350 meters. It is a typical Danxia landform, known for its 'green waters and red mountains' and 'the most beautiful scenery in the southeast.' It is one of the first national key scenic spots and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in December 1999, honored as a 'World Cultural and Natural Heritage' site. It has become a treasure shared by all humanity. The beauty of Wuyi lies in its mountains. Due to crustal movements in ancient times, combined with gravity collapse, water erosion, and weathering, the mountains have undergone peculiar changes: peaks rise, valleys sink; the mountains show a reddish-brown color due to geothermal oxidation, and their shapes lean eastward due to compression. It is the most typical among the more than 200 Danxia landforms in the country. The crustal movement has created a variety of strange peaks and rocks here, some soaring into the clouds, some stretching for miles, some hanging like screens, some standing proudly, some delicate and graceful... In terms of the landscape of Wuyi Mountains, there are more resemblances to divine beings, which seem to be more enduring to taste. The spirituality of Wuyi lies in its water. At the foot of Wuyi Mountains, there are many springs, waterfalls, mountain streams, and creeks. The flowing water babbles, like telling stories and singing songs, injecting vitality into Wuyi Mountains, adding dynamism, and nurturing a spiritual aura. Among them, the most tempting is the Nine Bend River. Originating from the southern foothills of Huanggang Mountain in the Wuyi Mountains Nature Reserve, the river is 60 kilometers long and flows 9.5 kilometers through the scenic area. The mountains surround the water, and the water winds around the mountains, creating its own charm. Tourists can take a bow-shaped, simple bamboo raft from Xingcun Pier, drift with the waves, and enjoy the grand view of the landscape. They can look up to see the strange peaks and look down to appreciate the color of the water. 'Every turn of the mountain, every peak embraces the water,' is an apt description of the Nine Bend River. Wuyi Mountain City has a wealth of historical and cultural relics. More than 4,000 years ago, ancestors lived and worked here, gradually forming the unique 'ancient Min' culture and the subsequent 'Minyue' culture, which lasted for more than 2,000 years, leaving behind numerous cultural relics. The main cultural features of this period include 'cliff boat coffins,' 'rainbow bridges,' and the Han Dynasty Minyue King City ruins, which cover an area of 480,000 square meters.
