Shapotou has changed

Shapotou's maximum age limit for camel riding is 65 years old. The tour starts from the entrance of the Yellow River Ferry Scenic Area. The whole journey takes 5 hours, entering from the Yellow River Ferry, first playing with water and then with sand, for a very comprehensive experience. The Baolan Railway crosses the desert six times within the territory of Zhongwei, among which Shapotou has the steepest slope and the most fierce sandstorms. To ensure the smooth flow of the railway and prevent the tracks from being buried by sand, a windbreak and sand fixation project was started on both sides of the railway since the 1950s. This project was successful, and the huge net-like grass squares on both sides of the railway are filled with sand plants, turning the golden sand sea into green waves, keeping the desert section of the Baolan Railway safe for decades.
