Dubai is now a modern city, but I wanted to see the good old streets, so I went to the Al Fabidi Historical District, also known as Old Dubai. The sound of the Quran ringing out of nowhere. (Because it is an Islamic country, the Quran is played from mosques several times a day.) With that, I felt like I had traveled back in time. Cute accessories were also sold here and there. The beaches are an excellent way to cool off after a long day of exploration. We took a boat to the museum and bought scarves and other souvenirs in Al Fahidi Fort. We also went dune bashing, a must when in the bountiful Arab deserts, and also attended a night spectacle of Arabian dance performances, a Middle Eastern buffet and camel riding. For a modern city experience, we enjoyed shopping in the many malls and ended off with the Burj Khalifa night show. We had dinner at one of three surrounding malls but I’d recommend finding a quieter restaurant not situated in a retail area for better quality - the food was lackluster and overpriced. One place tmy friend and I did like was Laduree, near Jumeirah Beach. #happynewyear

Navigating Dubai: Taxis & Traffic Uber was convenient, but be aware that prices can surge due to traffic. We experienced this several times, where the final fare was higher than the initial estimate. First Stop: Old Dubai & Its Quaint Streets Our first destination was Old Dubai. Our initial plan was to take an Abra (water taxi) from Bur Dubai Marine Transport Station (CR1 line) to Deira Old Souk Marine Transport Station, then return on the CR5 line to the Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood (Bastakiya). However, with the CR5 operating every 20-30 minutes, we worried about long queues affecting our tight schedule, so we skipped the water taxi this time. Instead, we spent our time strolling through the Old Town, soaking in its atmosphere and snapping photos. Even the popular photo spots were quite crowded. We grabbed some quick snacks, which were generally on the sweeter side. I found the Arabic coffee to have a peculiar taste, but the Turkish coffee was more palatable. Day 7: we had breakfast buffet around the Dubai marina before heading to Palm Jumeirah. We explored the monorail before checking out the Atlantis hotel. You can explore the aquarium or just enjoy the partial view for free from cafe/ gift shop downstairs. If you have time explore the Burj Al Arab as well. Day 8: relax before flying out. Tips: Sunscreen Try exploring outside area in the evening and stay indoors during the day to avoid heat. Dont forget your daily prayers. All places have prayers rooms in them, so utilise that.
