We stayed in Yha windermere hostel and it was worth it, Tip1. Buses comes after 1-2 hour, plan it before head and few days doesnt run as well. Tip2. Around 5 most places are closed, start early Tip3. If you are with elders or kids and doesnt have car than opt for lakeside taxis app and it was convenient or if alone you can get cycle from the station and keep your luggage around the area Tip4. Dont forget to visit gingermere for ginger bread, only they make it. Tip5. Must try sticky toffee pudding, we did at amberside. Tip6. You should try elderflower sparkling water, i personally liked it.

Starting my Lake District exploration from Penrith was the perfect beginning to a dream trip. Departing from London, I took two train transfers and arrived at my dream destination in three hours. As soon as I got off the train, the crisp, fresh air instantly awakened my senses. My first stop was Lake Windermere, the largest lake in the Lake District, which resembles a giant sapphire dropped by Mother Earth. I took a boat trip, feeling the cold breeze on my face, and watched the distant mountains and the lake surface complement each other under the sunlight. It was incredibly relaxing. If you have enough energy, hiking along the lake is also a great option, encountering dead trees and reeds in winter, every step is picturesque. Grasmere is also not to be missed. Surrounded by gentle mountains, the lake surface is occasionally covered with thin ice in winter. Walking along the frozen path is tranquil and beautiful, as if time has slowed down. Castlerigg Stone Circle is full of mystery. Standing in the ancient stone circle, with snow-capped mountains in the distance and a vast wilderness before you, it's hard not to be impressed by the stunning scenery. On a warm spring day, I embarked on a journey to Penrith, a small town in Cumbria, England, drawn by its rich history, magnificent natural scenery, and unique British charm. Departing from London, I opted for a bus ride to Penrith. Although the journey was long, the scenery along the way unfolded like a series of moving paintings, refreshing my mind. When I arrived in Penrith, it was already evening, and the afterglow of the setting sun cast a mystical and warm glow on the ancient buildings. After checking in to my B&B, I took a short rest and couldn't wait to hit the streets to experience the town's unique charm. Penrith's streets are lined with various small shops, cafes, and restaurants, each exuding a strong traditional British atmosphere. As I strolled along the cobblestone streets, I occasionally heard the distant church bells, as if traveling back in time to a distant era. The next morning, I woke up early and headed to Penrith Castle. Built in the 14th century, this castle was once the residence of the Duke of York. Although much of it is now in ruins, it still retains its former grandeur and solemnity. Standing on the castle ruins, overlooking the entire town, I couldn't help but marvel at the vicissitudes of history. Afterwards, I visited the Penrith Town Museum, which provides a detailed introduction to the town's history and culture, giving me a deeper understanding of Penrith. The museum also houses a collection of precious artifacts and artworks, which opened my eyes. In the afternoon, I drove to the Lake District National Park. Penrith is very close to the park, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the Lake District. The scenery in the Lake District National Park is breathtaking, with lakes, mountains, and forests intertwined, forming a series of captivating paintings. I strolled along the lakeside path, breathing in the fresh air and feeling the tranquility and harmony of nature. On my way back to Penrith, I passed by Castlerigg Stone Circle, a Neolithic historical site consisting of 48 stones. Thirty-eight of these stones form the outer circle, while the other 10 form a small rectangle within the circle. Although not as grand as Stonehenge in Salisbury, the mysterious stone circle is still awe-inspiring. In the evening, I returned to Penrith and enjoyed dinner at a traditional British restaurant. The restaurant was filled with rich aromas, and I savored authentic British cuisine, experiencing the unique charm of British culture. This trip to Penrith allowed me to deeply appreciate the town's rich history, culture, and beautiful natural scenery. There are a few street parking spaces outside. It is recommended to come early. If you walk, you can also walk from the center of Keswick. Admission is free. The stone circle is very special. There are signboards outside to introduce it. It is beautiful to take pictures nearby, and you can also see beautiful mountain views. It is also a dog-friendly attraction suitable for bringing dogs! Castlerigg Stone Circle is a circular structure made up of huge stones, believed to have been built between 3000 and 4000 BC. Castlerigg stone circle is 3 kilometers 37 minutes from Keswick by walking or you can drive there limited free parking on the road side. It is open 24 hours with no entrance fee. Castlerigg was built 4000 years ago by prehistoric farming communities for providing a setting for rituals or ceremonial activities, social exchanges and the movements of goods. The rectangle stone setting within the circle known as sanctuary, is likely to be a later addition to focus attention upon one part of the circle. Sheep is around the site, so there is a stone wall to surround it. Children can play with the sheep and climbing on the stone.
