Hulled buckwheat is soaked in water, stirred into a paste, ground into a slurry, filtered, and then poured into a pot. After heating and stirring into a gelatinous state, it is served and cooled. A portion of buckwheat jelly is made into thin strips with a perforated ladle, hence the name 'Laolao'.

Special Forces in Tianshui: A 48-Hour Intense Travel Guide and Life Advice to Remember
🚄 As soon as I stepped onto the train from Xi'an to Tianshui South Station, I couldn't wait to explore this charming city! In 48 hours, I'm going to have a blast in Tianshui and feast on all the delicious food!
Here are some recommended spots to check out
🏯 First stop: Fuxi Temple, one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization
🏞️ Second stop: Tianshui Ancient Town, each city's ancient town has its own unique features
🏔️ Third stop: Mini Potala Palace
There are many people taking photos, and the shooting spot I found this time 🎬 is so photogenic
🍲 Recommended delicacy: The unforgettable—Pangzi Fish Hotpot! 😋
I just can't stop eating the Tianshui cuisine, especially the Pangzi Fish Hotpot 🍲!
Hand-rolled noodles and beef tripe cooked in it are just too fragrant
This broth is even more aromatic than the hotpot base
🏨 I stayed at the Tianshui Jiafu Hotel this time, which was quite comfortable and had a nice environment! The highlight is that staying at this hotel comes with free Tianshui spicy hotpot, no need to queue up!
·
The next day I couldn't resist going for it again ah ah ah
Just in time to take away and let my family also taste it
This trip to Tianshui was really great!
Not only did I experience the rich historical and cultural atmosphere
But I also enjoyed such delicious food.

Budget Travel Diary | Guide to Visiting Tianshui
YUQUAN TEMPLE
🌈Named for the 'Jade Spring' of the Yuan Dynasty. It boasts over 90 Taoist buildings and is known as the 'Number One Famous Temple in Southeastern Gansu';
Nanshan Scenic Area (Nanguo Temple)
🌈With a history of over a thousand years, it has been a favorite spot for poets and scholars throughout the ages. The great poet Du Fu wrote over 100 poems in praise of it during his visit.
Tianshui Ancient City
🌈One of the largest and best-preserved residential courtyards from the Ming and Qing dynasties in the northwest region. It's better to go at night to see the night view. It's near the Fuxi Temple, and you can stay nearby at night and go directly to the Fuxi Temple the next day. An hour is enough
Maijishan Grottoes
🌈Second only to the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, it is China's second-largest art cave and is known as the 'Eastern Art Sculpture Gallery'. It is one of the four major grottoes. The Maijishan area is the most worthwhile place to spend time. You can view from a distance and climb the plank road for a detailed appreciation. Generally, it takes about two hours, but if you like sculpture and mural art, time is not a limit.
⭐️Transportation: About 100 yuan by taxi from Tianshui South Station, or you can take a bus
Maiji Never Night City: Intangible cultural heritage folk customs, performances, snacks, fruits, nearly 200 stalls, experience the local night market.
Tianshui City Industrial Museum
🌈Features a science and technology experience hall, time corridor, and industrial history museum, providing insight into the industrial development of Tianshui.
Maijishan Grottoes
🌈95 RMB per person for advance reservation includes the grotto scenic area + sightseeing car, and is known as one of China's four major grottoes along with the Mogao Caves, Longmen Grottoes, and Yungang Grottoes
Maijishan Grottoes--Immortal Cliff
🌈This section has a direct bus for 50 RMB per person (including round-trip direct bus + Immortal Cliff ticket + scenic area sightseeing car)
⭐️It is really recommended to buy this as it is convenient and time-saving, and the scenery of Immortal Cliff is really good with very few tourists. It consists of three cliffs, five peaks, and six temples, mainly touring the three cliffs you can climb the mountain following the route 'West Cliff--East Cliff--South Cliff' without taking the same way back and not missing any scenery
Tianshui Botanical Garden (inside Maijishan)
🌈Not considered a separate attraction, there are ice waterfalls in winter, which are still worth seeing. It takes about half an hour to walk in and out, and if you're looking at the ice waterfalls, it will take a bit longer. It's inside Maijishan and worth a visit.
North and South Houses (Hu Family Ancestral Home)
🌈After breakfast, it's just a few steps away. This is the only remaining official residence from the Ming Dynasty in the northwest region. Because there are two parts, south and north, it is also called North and South Houses. The South House is larger, and the North is slightly smaller. There is an underground passage connecting the North and South Houses, but unfortunately, it was not open when we visited. This place is open to the public for free~ Behind the North and South Houses is the Temple of Literature, one and a half to two hours is enough
Fuxi Temple and Tianshui Museum
🌈The entrance fee for Fuxi Temple is 20 RMB, and it is open for free at certain times. There is a large square in front of the gate, which is probably the place for holding grand ceremonies. The dragon and phoenix window inside is from the Ming Dynasty and is very exquisite. The little red figures used for blessings on the trees in the temple are also quite interesting. Behind the Fuxi Temple is the Tianshui Museum, which is free to visit and can be accessed directly.
For less than 300 RMB per person, unlock the ultimate 2-day, 1-night experience in Tianshui!

It is situated in the Xiaolong Mountain forest area of the eastern section of the Western Qinling Mountains and is named for its shape, which resembles a wheat stack. The mountain is 142 meters high, with a Sui Dynasty relic brick pagoda standing at the top, surrounded by ancient white pine trees. Carved into the cliffs are 209 caves spanning over 1600 years, containing 7866 clay and stone sculptures and more than 1300 square meters of murals, making the Maijishan Grottoes one of China's four major grottoes, hailed as the 'exhibition hall of Eastern sculpture'.
Introduction to Fuxi Temple: Tianshui Fuxi Temple, also known as 'Taihao Palace', is a temple complex built during the Ming and Qing dynasties specifically for the worship of Fuxi, the cultural progenitor of the Chinese nation. It was founded in the 19th year of the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty (1483 AD) and covers a total area of 35,000 square meters. It is the most completely preserved and earliest temple dedicated to Fuxi in China, known as 'the First Temple of Huaxia'. It has been listed as a key national cultural heritage site and a national 4A-level tourist attraction.
Introduction to Daxiang Mountain: Gangu Daxiang Mountain is located 2.5 kilometers southwest of the county seat of Gangu County, Tianshui City, Gansu Province, on the Wenqi Mountain at the western end of the Qinling Mountains. It is a key national cultural heritage site and a national 4A-level tourist attraction. It is an important cultural relic in the southeastern part of Gansu on the ancient Silk Road, combining the artistic charm of grottoes and ancient architecture.
Introduction to Shuilian Cave: The Shuilian Cave Grottoes of Wushan were first built during the Later Qin period of the Sixteen Kingdoms and were constructed through the Northern Wei, Northern Zhou, Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, and Yuan dynasties. The main attractions include Shuilian Cave, Lashao Temple, and Thousand Buddha Cave, all of which are key national cultural heritage sites. Shuilian Cave is located on the cliff on the east side of the axe-shaped Shifu Mountain, a natural arch cave about 50 meters long, 30 meters high, and 20 meters deep. During the rainy season, the spring water and rainwater from the top and walls of the cave converge and flow down, forming a waterfall like a string of pearls, hence the name Shuilian Cave.

A Journey Through a Thousand Years: The Fuxi Temple Time Travel
In Tianshui, an ancient city, the Fuxi Temple is a must-visit destination on my trip. In the morning, I tasted the local specialty of spicy hot pot🌶️, whose numbing and spicy flavor danced on my taste buds, adding the first splash of color to my journey. Afterward, with a satisfied heart, I stepped through the threshold of the Fuxi Temple🚪.
The entrance fee for the Fuxi Temple is affordable, only 20 yuan per person💰. As soon as I entered, I was captivated by the lush ancient tree on the right🌳. The guide told me that this tree has weathered a thousand years of wind and rain, witnessing the changes of history, which made me respect it profoundly🙇.
Walking along the stone-paved road, the grand hall gradually came into view🏯. On the east side of the hall, there is a small and exquisite museum🏛️, displaying ancient relics unearthed from this land, each seemingly telling an ancient story🗿.
Continuing further, several more halls dedicated to the worship of Fuxi came into sight. Here, I felt the profound cultural heritage and the weight of history📜. Each visit felt like a dialogue with history, deepening my understanding of this city🤔.
The birthplace of Emperor Xi, the Jiangnan of Long (Gansu) - Tianshui
📍Tianshui·Fuxi Temple (4A)
🔎Fuxi Temple, originally named Taihao Palace and commonly known as Renzong Temple, is one of the famous ancient architectural complexes in Northwest China. It was built during the Ming Dynasty and is the largest Fuxi sacrificial building complex in China.
🔸There is also a Fuxi Temple in Zhoukou, Henan, but there are differences between the two. The Fuxi Temple in Tianshui is because Emperor Xi's birthplace and cultural cradle are in Tianshui, while the one in Zhoukou, Henan, is Emperor Xi's mausoleum, also known as Taihao Mausoleum. It is said that Taihao Mausoleum has existed since the Spring and Autumn period.

From a distance, the mountains look like waves, and the nearby plank roads are thrilling at every step. The thickness of history and the delicacy of art can be fully enjoyed here, especially for a traveler like me who is obsessed with sculptures and murals, time seems to stand still here⏳🖌️.
The way to get there is simple and convenient, starting from Tianshui South Station, taking a taxi or a bus are good choices🚕🚌. I chose a path along Route 37, enjoying the scenery along the way, each step filled with surprises.
In the afternoon, we strolled to the Tianshui Botanical Garden, which is located within Maijishan, but its unique ice waterfall landscape and the rare yew trees are unforgettable❄️🌲. Time seems to stretch here, each breath filled with the fragrance of nature.
As night falls, we arrived at the locally famous Fatty Fish Hot Pot🍲, a paradise for food lovers. Despite the crowds, the unique taste made the wait worthwhile. The spicy and fresh fish meat dances on the tongue, leaving an unforgettable impression.
At night, we walked through Tianshui Ancient City🌆, the night view was picturesque, and we gently walked past the Fuxi Temple, as if traveling through time and space, having a close encounter with history.
**Day-2:**
In the early morning, the special breakfast at Yusheng Alley awaited our exploration🥐🍜, each food item rich with local flavor, satisfying to the fullest.
After a hearty meal, we visited the North and South Mansions🏡, experiencing the charm of a Ming Dynasty official's residence. Although the underground passage remained unexplored, the freely open mansion still conveyed a strong historical and cultural atmosphere.
Next, the itinerary included the Fuxi Temple and the Tianshui Museum🏛️, with the ancient dragon and phoenix windows and the little red figures inside the temple, each detail touching. The fragrance of the blooming wintersweet added a special touch to the journey.
In the afternoon, we chose a hotpot restaurant with a unique flavor🍲, which was memorable. Afterwards, we went to the Industrial Museum🏭, where the design was stunning, giving a deeper understanding of Tianshui's industrial development.

Tianpengzi milk tea and Manfu lemon are must-try local options, refreshing and invigorating! Fuxi Temple
Fuxi and Nuwa are the ancestors of the Chinese nation. The clan leader Fuxi in the Neolithic Age led the early people to hunt, cultivate, make medicine, and open up trigrams, promoting the economic and cultural development of the tribe.
The tradition of worshiping Fuxi began in the State of Qin during the Warring States Period. The Qin people originated from Tianshui, and Fuxi also originated from Tianshui, which was known as Chengji in ancient times. The Fuxi Temple built in the Ming Dynasty retains the wooden ancient architecture, the weathered and mottled wooden carvings and wooden pillars, the rusted bell tower and drum tower, telling the cultural tradition of the descendants of Yan and Huang seeking their roots and asking their ancestors.
From Qin to Qing, for two thousand years, Tianshui has never left the vision of history. The rich remains of the prehistoric civilization period prove the long history. The Maijishan Grottoes excavated by the Later Qin of the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, even more amazed the world. The tea-horse trade in the Ming and Qing Dynasties made this place active between the Central Plains and the northern nomadic peoples.
As the descendants of the dragon in the year of the dragon, worshiping the ancestors of the Chinese nation in the Fuxi Temple has a special significance.
🇨🇳Appreciate the five thousand years of Huaxia, inherit the Chinese civilization

|Pray___Check in at Fuxi Temple~. Fuxi Temple, also known as Renzong Temple, was built between the 19th and 20th years of the Ming Dynasty (1483-1484), and has undergone nine renovations to form the grand architectural complex it is today. This temple is not only the temple in China that has a statue of Fuxi, but also the place of worship for Fuxi, the first emperor in ancient legends.
Fuxi Temple is built along the street, with courtyards nested within each other, four entrances and four courtyards, vast and deep, demonstrating the solemnity and majesty of traditional Chinese architecture. The ancient buildings in the temple include the theater building, the archway, the main gate, the ceremonial gate, the Xiantian Hall, the Taiji Hall, the bell tower, the drum tower, the Laihe Hall, etc., a total of 10 buildings, each carefully crafted and unique. The entire architectural complex faces north to south, advancing layer by layer, showing the charm of architectural art.
Every year on the sixteenth day of the first lunar month, which is Fuxi's birthday, people from the surrounding area will come here with their old and young to worship and sacrifice to the 'Ancestor'. On that day, the precious candles are brilliant, the incense is lingering, the bells and drums are ringing, the good men and women are extremely devout, and the temple is filled with a solemn and solemn atmosphere.
Fuxi Temple is not only a holy place for ancestor worship, but also a place for cultural inheritance. Here, people can feel the weight of history and culture, and experience the power of faith and devotion.
Tianshui - The birthplace of Fuxi and Nuwa, the ancestors of Chinese civilization
I used to know Tianshui, which is named after the legend of 'Tianhe pouring water', for its world-famous Maijishan, one of the four major grottoes in China, and the famous geographical indication product Hua Niu apple. But it was not until I actually arrived in Tianshui, located on the southeastern edge of Gansu Province, that I was amazed to find that it was the birthplace of Fuxi and Nuwa, the ancestors of Chinese civilization. The Fuxi Temple on Fuxi Road in the West Gate of Qincheng District of Tianshui City is currently the largest and best-preserved Ming Dynasty architectural complex commemorating one of the three ancient emperors, Fuxi, known as the 'First Temple of China'. The Fuxi Temple, originally named Taihao Palace and commonly known as Renzong Temple, was built between the 19th and 20th years of the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty (1483-1484), and has undergone nine renovations, forming a large-scale architectural complex, one of the famous ancient architectural complexes in the northwest of China. The Fuxi Temple faces north and is built facing the street, with courtyards nested within each other, four entrances and four courtyards, vast and deep. The ancient buildings in the temple include 10 buildings: the theater building, the archway, the main gate, the ceremonial gate, the Xiantian Hall, the Taiji Hall, the bell tower, the drum tower, and the Laihe Hall; the new buildings include 6 buildings: the morning room, the stele corridor, and the exhibition hall. There are a total of 76 rooms in the new and old buildings. Since Fuxi is the first emperor in ancient legends, the architectural complex is in the form of a palace, and it is the largest Fuxi sacrificial architectural complex in the country. The entire architectural complex includes the archway, the main gate, the ceremonial gate, the Xiantian Hall, and the Taiji Hall arranged in order along the longitudinal axis, advancing layer by layer, solemn and majestic.
Maybe I personally like Chinese traditional culture, whether it is architecture or folklore or other things. When I see these monuments that have been lived from the past to the present, I am very pleased and helpless. Our long history has nurtured and accumulated the essence of culture. In this fast-paced era, it has been heavily smeared and repackaged. As long as it can earn a point, it will be overwhelmed without asking history. Especially those most influential cities, famous towns, famous streets and even famous people, famous works, etc. are hard to escape.
Although I don't understand ancient architectural design, the traditional culture that belongs to China can be embodied in architecture, folklore, famous works, even ancient tombs, funerary objects, etc., and these are the precipitation of the Chinese civilization for five thousand years. Even if modern civilization develops rapidly, don't forget that there is no accumulation of traditional culture, and where is the development of modern civilization?
So, if you go to Tianshui, you must not miss the Fuxi Temple, the ancestor of the Chinese people.
