Qingyang District Imperial Mosque.
Huangcheng Mosque is one of the famous mosques in southwest China, referred to as Huangcheng Temple, located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It is the only open religious venue in the city center.
The mosque got its name because it is close to the ruins of a royal palace of a dynasty in local history. It was originally built in the 16th century AD and began to be repaired in 1858. The mosque was damaged in 1917. Although it was rebuilt again soon, its scale has been greatly reduced due to limited financial resources. The original area was more than 6,600 square meters, and later it was reduced to more than 5,000 square meters. Despite this, the mosque is still the largest mosque in Sichuan Province and one of the more famous ancient mosques in the country. Next to the mosque is Chengdu Northwest Middle School, a famous Hui Middle School in Chengdu.
Huangcheng Mosque, an ancient building built in the fifth year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty, has experienced war and reconstruction. It is now the most influential mosque in the southwest. Its unique style complements the historical and cultural city of Chengdu. Later, it was moved due to the construction of Tianfu Square. The new mosque has a new look while retaining its original appearance.
The mosque's prayer hall covers an area of about 380 square meters and can accommodate six to seven hundred people for worship. There is a Bangke building in the mosque, and bathrooms are located to the north and south of the main hall. There is a Sutra Library behind the second gate. The interiors of the building, hall, pavilion, and room are modern facilities, but the exterior still retains the style of ancient buildings. The steles, plaques, and couplets in the mosque were damaged several times later, including the calligraphy of Prince Qingguo, "Shi Shou Liang Gui", and the calligraphy of Chengdu Luo Chengxiang, the champion scholar, "Kai Tian Gu Jiao".
