Golden Welcome to Vientiane
Pha That Luang is considered a national symbol in Laos and one of the most important national monument.
It is a must visit in Vientiane, and the two North and South temple surrounding the stupa make up for an enjoyable 2 hours culture trip once arrived in the city.
The original golden-covered Buddhist stupa dates back to 3rd century AD. It has been the subject of several invasions from Burmese, Siamese and Chinese over the course of history before being restored by French architect Delaparte. You can walk around the quarters, appreciating different angles of the stupa while encountering oil paintings and Buddhist statues along the way.
Just south of the stupa is the South temple, Wat That Luang Tai, where a golden sleeping Buddha highlights the scene. Beautiful bodhi trees and statues of Nagas, Ramakian and other Hindu Buddhist figure adorn the place. For people unfamiliar with Buddhism, coming here with a guide could be a great idea, to learn the significance of symbols and characters.

Quiet a big areal and nice walk, so do not do this at midday. There is some shade on the surrounding walkway, but also the walk to the different sight is uncovered. The Stupa is really big for Laos, if you have been in Burma Yangon maybe small! the color is really nice and golden and the light does reflect nicely. The entrance fee was okay, even its not too much to see.

Next to the Wat Taluang, there is another temple called Wat Taluang Nu
On either side of Wat Taluang, there are two more temples. The one on the left is Wat Phra Non (introduced in another text), and the one on the right is Wat Taluang Nu, with a red roof and yellow walls, which are particularly eye-catching.
There is another magnificent golden temple nearby, with a tall spire, and a standing Buddha on each side of the entrance, which are very spectacular and beautiful.
The entire square is wide and clean, with some tall trees guarding this sacred land like soldiers.
Laos | The most worth visiting in Vientiane is the That Luang
That Luang ranks first in Vientiane attractions, and That Luang is not allowed to enter for visit. It is said that the relics of Sakyamuni are buried under the tower.
The whole body of That Luang is golden, and there are pavilions for worship on all four sides of the bottom.
That Luang was originally built in the 3rd century. The shape of That Luang we see now was rebuilt by King Setthathirat in 1566 AD. In 1560, he moved the capital of the Lan Cang Kingdom from Luang Prabang to Vientiane and rebuilt That Luang, adding 30 small towers around it, and started the custom of That Luang Festival.
It is said that the ancient That Luang was covered with gold foil all over the body. In 1828, the Siamese invaders stole the real gold on the outer layer and severely damaged That Luang. In the early 1990s, it was restored by France, but the restored That Luang was replaced with gold paint instead of real gold.
Wat Si Saket in Vientiane, Laos
Wat Si Saket is one of the many temples in Vientiane. Although it is not very large, it is popular because it is just a street away from the famous That Luang Temple and is protected by a huge reclining Buddha.
Inside, there is a very exquisite and tall sculpture, with a prince-like figure pulling a bow and arrow. There are also several angles from which you can photograph the large golden pagoda of That Luang Temple.
The surrounding wall is also quite distinctive, all of them are golden pagodas of respected and wealthy families, which is spectacular.

Pha That Luang
I recommend taking a private tour and in the early morning if you don't want to be in the hot summer heat. For a few dollars you can get a pic taken and printed from a bike in 2 minutes la! The Stupa itself is magnificent. There are many smaller temples in the vicinity and a Sleeping Buddha. You can get trinkets and souvenirs from the little booths around this place. #Vientiane #highlight

Vientiane Great Golden Stupa 😮
Phat That Luang literally means "great golden stupa". Gold-painted stupa is the most important national symbol of Laos and the city's most sacred monument. It really is a great place to visit when you are in Vientiane, Laos. You can just walk and relax here since there aren't many people around. If you are going to visit Patuxay "Victory Gate" then drop by here after.
Visited this place with some of my friends and it was good, actually great 😃 Worth a visit indeed!

People don’t recommend Vientiane enough, it’s a beautiful levity with so much culture, I highly recommend it!!
Go to the river bank to see Thailand, then stroll around the night market and end up at tipsy elephant for sunset. Go to Buddha park and visit the temples around the city. Laos people are super nice and will always be happy to help you.
I also recommend going to the Indian restaurant as there is a big community and the good is amazing!

Golden Buddhist Temple in Vientiane
Pha That Luang Vientiane - a massive Buddhist stupa - is one of the most recognized historical sites in Laos. It's history dates back to the 3rd century.
It looks so impressive even with the rainy sky background.
The entrance fee to this complex of buildings is very reasonable. It's less than $2, 30'000 Laotian kip
There is also a very good souvenir market right next to this place.

High-speed rail directly to a slow-paced small country! Cheaper than Thailand with fewer people.
While most domestic tourists are heading to Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, backpackers from Europe and America have secretly fled to this forgotten paradise in Southeast Asia!
Here, there are no towering buildings or factories roaring, only pristine beauty and a slow-paced life.
This country is Laos! Spend three to five days in this lazy country, take a cross-border train slowly and experience its beauty along the way, without hurry or delay.
@Vientiane
If you haven't been to Vientiane before, you can't imagine that a country's capital can be like this. Here, there are no tall buildings, no paper-thin city life, and it feels like a peaceful and comfortable small town. Vientiane's streets are not wide, but they are particularly clean, forming a sharp contrast with the impression of Southeast Asian cities, and there is no traffic jam. Walking on the street, you can see French-style small buildings with unique charm, and flowers or vegetables planted in front of the houses.
Walking around freely, you will encounter many interesting temples. The Ta Loong style is unique, with 30 satellite towers surrounding the main tower. In the sunlight, it shines brightly and dazzlingly.
Wat Xieng Khuan, although it is a temple, has no buildings or halls, more like a park with Buddha statues. The most striking feature is a reclining Buddha about 45 meters long, with a facial expression that seems to be sleeping peacefully, giving a feeling similar to that of Vientiane, tranquil and leisurely.
If you get tired from walking, you can also take a bus to tour around. There are few tourists, mostly locals going about their daily lives. Vientiane is not big, and while wandering around the city, you won't miss a triumphal arch that resembles the one in Paris, France.
@Luang Prabang
Some people say that Luang Prabang seems to have moved the Buddha's world to the human world. This is a thousand-year-old capital, and its pace is much slower than that of the outside world. It has never taken the initiative to adapt to the world trend and has formed its own faction.
In the morning, as long as you get up early, you can see the pious and shocking donation. Every morning at around 5:30, monks in cassocks, begging for alms with bare feet, shuttled through the small town unhurriedly. Pious men and women have already knelt along the road, offering glutinous rice or rice in bamboo tubes prepared sincerely, and monks passed by in a line to accept people's alms.
After staying in the "cold" city for a long time, in Luang Prabang in the early morning, you will feel the great love in the world for a long time!
Here, you can walk through the streets and alleys, and feel the tranquility and leisure of this Buddhist city all day long. You can hold a cup of coffee, eat a delicious breakfast, and wait quietly for the Mekong to wake up.
When night falls, you can climb to the top of Mount Phousi, or walk to the Mekong River to watch a sunset.
Or go shopping at the night market. The stalls are lined up in front of Xisha Wangfeng Street in front of the palace, and the lanterns are softly shining.
Strolling here with friends, drinking some wine, eating some snacks, and the wind blowing, all seem to be romantic and cozy.
In addition, what is even more surprising is that there is also a fairyland that is not stained with mortal dust. Known as the "Laos version of Huangguoshu Waterfall", Guangxi Waterfall looks like the water of the Milky Way pouring down from nine heavens, which is a magnificent and magnificent landscape painting.
@Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng is a paradise for lazy people, located between Vientiane and Luang Prabang, with beautiful mountains and clear waters, simple folk customs, and the China-Laos railway passing through it.
There are many "dense forest caves", the quiet Nansong River flows through, and the magical karst terrain is known as "Little Guilin in Laos".
The lagoon is like the pure blue of the devil's tears, without a trace of impurities, jumping forward, and directly colliding with nature, this is the perfect fusion of man and nature. Rock climbing, hiking, cycling, rafting and other sports can also be performed here, the most popular of which is tire rafting. It's not as exciting as an amusement park, but as calm as floating on the sea, lying on tires and floating quietly along the river.
In addition to adventure, you can also take a hot air balloon to see the lush mountains and forests; you can also practice yoga in the rice fields, so that the body and mind can blend with nature.
Or do nothing, just find a small shop by the river, sit and chat and bask in the sun, it’s really enjoyable.

Vientiane's That Luang Stupa | Shining symbol of Laos
Laos' capital Vientiane, if there is one reason that cannot be missed, it must be the glittering That Luang stupa.
Talat Sao, meaning "royal tower" in Lao language, was built by King Setthathirath of Lan Xang on the basis of a small tower in 1566, gradually forming today's scale. It was this king who moved the capital from Luang Prabang to Vientiane, and now his statue stands prominently in the square at the main entrance of Talat Sao. Talat Sao has also witnessed the glory and decline of Vientiane and this country.
The Ta Luan Pagoda consists of one main tower and 30 small Buddha towers, with three layers of tower base representing the three realms in Buddhism. There are four worship pavilions built around it. The main tower stands on a semi-circular pedestal, surrounded by 24 large lotus petal decorations. The tower top is cone-shaped and covered with gold foil. It is said that the Buddha's relics are buried under the tower. Both in terms of status and appearance, the Ta Luan Pagoda can be compared to the great golden pagoda in Myanmar, leaving a lasting impression on people.
Don't just go to That Luang, take a walk around the periphery, and your eyes will not miss the golden light. You can see beautiful temples, monks' residences, the huge reclining Buddha, and the Laotian people taking photos with That Luang as the background, dressed in traditional costumes and with props full of character. It can be said that there are many gains!
Every mid-November, the Tak Bat ceremony is the most solemn and grand religious festival in Laos. Monks and believers flock to worship Buddha and pray for good luck. I wish I could attend it once!

🚉Transportation Guide: Taluang is located in the outskirts of Vientiane. It is recommended to ride a bicycle or take a tuk-tuk (about 30,000 kip per car) from the city center of Vientiane to get there.
Pha That Luang is a gold-covered large Buddhist stupa in the centre of the city of Vientiane, Laos.[1] Since its initial establishment, suggested to be in the 3rd century AD, the stupa has undergone several reconstructions as recently as the 1930s due to foreign invasions of the area. It is generally regarded as the most important national monument in Laos and a national symbol
This golden stupa is worth the travel to, especially when in Vientiane. Not much to see here but quite an eye opener with photo opportunities. Easily done within 20 minutes. Easy to take a bus from city centre.
