🇮🇹 Experience the "real Italy" in Kudanshita - Language, art, and music experiences at the Italian Cultural Institute
🇮🇹 Discover the "real Italy" in Kudanshita—experience language, art, and music at the Italian Cultural Institute.
📍Italian Cultural Institute Tokyo (Istituto Italiano di Cultura Tokyo)
2-1-30 Kudanminami, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo
With its red-brick exterior and glass latticework, this building has a modern, geometric form.
At first glance, this building may look like an art museum, but it's actually the Italian Cultural Institute, Tokyo's only official cultural institution, where you can experience Italian culture without leaving Japan.
⸻
🏛 "Italy itself" unfolds in a sophisticated space.
The entire building was designed by architectural master Gae Aulenti.
The red exterior walls and latticework structure incorporate elements of Japanese architecture, creating a beautiful landscape that changes both day and night. The interior is a tranquil and stylish space, a tranquil exotic place where learning, art, and music all intersect.

🎼 Listen to live music at the underground gem, Agnelli Hall
Located on the second basement floor, Agnelli Hall is a concert hall with 372 leather seats and outstanding acoustics.
Recitals of vocal music, chamber music, Italian film music, and more are frequently held here, with many free programs, making it a great place to stop by during your travels.
🎵 During the recital I attended, the sound softly reverberated throughout the hall, creating an immersive experience that felt like being in an old Italian opera house.

📚 A "learning journey" with the Italian language school and library
The Italian language school on the second floor offers a variety of courses, from beginner to advanced, including literature and film conversation.
Zoom classes are also available, making it perfect for those preparing for study abroad or looking for a hobby. Even if you're not interested in languages, the library, open to the public, is worth a visit.
📖 The museum boasts a collection of approximately 15,000 Italian-language books, cookbooks, magazines, DVDs, and more, including a section featuring works by Atsuko Suga, which are hard to find in Japan.
⸻
🖼 1st Floor Gallery: Art, Food, and Film Exhibitions
The 1st floor gallery regularly hosts contemporary art and photography exhibitions, as well as special exhibitions themed around Italian cuisine and design.
During World Italian Cuisine Week, talk events and book exhibitions are also held, providing an intellectual experience of food.
🍅At the "Talk on the History of Pasta" event, attendees were given free recipe books!
