Japan Travels: Our journey in Ueno Tokyo
#wheretogo
Ueno is a must-visit spot for us during our Japan trip staying in Tokyo, it has the most beautiful park that we have ever walked and it’s natural scenery is one of our best moments together. We visited Ueno in the late afternoon after exploring Asakusa and it’s good to wander these 2 two areas in a single day because it’s close to each other.
We visited Ueno park around 4pm, the sky is slowing setting down and a great time and weather to enjoy a breeze walk. The place is huge and surrounded by historical statues and there is shrine in the park, Ueno Toshogu Shrine which is very popular, we feast our eyes on its beautiful surrounding views.
When the sky is dark and it’s dinner time, we went to Ameyoko shopping districts that is nearby the park to continue our journey. It has a lot of food stalls and clothes to look around. We went into a restaurant specialised in okonomiyaki and monjayaki, it was very good and we did a bit of cooking ourselves on the grill. Next, we went to a local yakitori store along the street, we were the only tourists and luckily I was able to read a bit of Japanese because the menu is all in Japanese, we ordered pork and chicken meat, it is served in skewer style and we love it a lot, we ate quite a few sticks and it’s affordable for its good quality! To end our food hunting, we went to a famous Japanese chain cafe known for their dessert, we got a creme brûlée and parfait because the photo looks so delicious and we tried them, it was really yummy and we really enjoyed it.
Ueno Shopping street
Ameya Yokocho (Ameyoko, for short) is a famous shopping street in Ueno, a Tokyo district with attractions such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Tokyo National Museum, and Ueno Park. Ameyoko is a must-visit Tokyo shopping street, providing authentic Japanese street food in Ueno that won't break the bank.
Located between Okachimachi Station and Ueno Station, the sprawling expanse of Ameyoko is home to around 400 stores which sell Japanese street food, seafood, snacks, clothing, and more. With the Ueno Park nearby, it can get extremely crowded at Ameya Yokocho during the weekend, and during the winter holiday season it is especially packed as the mass of foreign visitors and Japanese officeworkers on vacation days converge. The Ameyoko Street Food Guide will cover the must-try street food gems in the area, read on to find out more about this popular Ueno food spot.
Ueno ice festival
Ueno located the downtown compound of Tokyo. This pond is closed to the Tokyo University. Koi fishes, lotus blooming, walking along the pond with a fresh air are the famous spot of Ueno pond. We can also ride a swarm boat with the leg movement paddle on the pond. The popular Ueno zoo is very closed with the pond. If you’re panda lovers, Ueno zoo is must visit list.

Standing Whiskey Bar 🥃 in Ueno, Japan
I visited my first ever standing whiskey bar in Ameyoko which is located in Ueno, a part of Tokyo Japan.
Ameyoko is a busy market street along the Yamanote Line tracks between Okachimachi and Ueno stations. The name "Ameyoko" is a short form for "Ameya Yokocho" (candy store alley), as candies were traditionally sold there. Alternatively, "Ame" also stands for "America", because a lot of American products used to be available when the street was the site of a black market in the years following World War 2.

At the end of April, I came to Tokyo with a one-year-old chick. I couldnt catch the cherry blossoms in Ueno, but I saw a colorful blush in front of the alleys in Nakano.
Tokyo's big, some people use the boundless to describe. Modern architecture is as fascinating as the traditional old Edo house, and Tokyos sensory stimuli make travellers excited.
You can visit an inspiring shrine to see creative architecture or squander in the duty-free shopping street. Its best to experience a local homestay and make a dinner in the Windy Villa to live like a local.
Tokyo, in the midst of bustling modernity, there are always some wonderful experiences of traditional culture.

One of the most iconic places to view cherry blossoms in Tokyo is Ueno Park.
Ueno Park
📍Ueno Park is located in the Taito Ward of Tokyo, Japan. The address is 〒110-0007 Tokyo, Taito City, Uenokoen, 5−20.

The Park was established in 1873 and is one of Japan's first public parks. It has a rich history, serving as a location for cherry blossom viewing (hanami) for centuries. The park is home to over 1,000 cherry trees of various types, making it a popular spot for hanami parties during the cherry blossom season 🌸 🌸🌸

Best Sakura In Tokyo, Ueno
#cherryblossom2024
Temples, zoo and sakura
Ueno is one of the five oldest parks in Japan open to the public. It is famous for the zoo of the same name, museums and the magnificent spring cherry blossom. The park was opened to the public in 1873. Its official name is Ueno Onshi—cohen, "Emperor-granted Ueno Park."
Recommended
Visit the art, scientific and historical museums
Explore the Shinobazu Pond and the Bentendo Temple Hall
See the statue of the "last samurai" by Saigo Takamori
How to get there
Ueno Park is next to a major transfer hub.
Ueno Station can be reached by JR Yamanote Line from Tokyo Station (four stops), as well as by Narita Skyliner train from Narita Airport and by high-speed trains from the west or east of Japan.
The Ueno station is quite large, but a separate JR Ueno Station Park exit with clear signs leads to the park. To enter the park, you need to cross the road.
The most famous sakura in Tokyo
The park is famous for interesting museums, pandas in the zoo, the Shinobazu Pond and the historical Tosogu Temple, but first of all — the cherry blossom. A lot of Japanese people strive to visit the park in the spring.
The first cherries were planted at this place by Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616), the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. These trees, of course, have not survived the past 400 years, but the legendary tradition of admiring the blossoms in the park is still alive.
More than two million people come to Ueno Park every spring. Most of them walk along the main alley, near the zoo. About half of all sakura trees grow along it, and at the height of the season, visitors can hardly find a picnic spot. The celebration under the picturesque white and pink flowers continues until late in the evening.
Museums
There are six different museums in Ueno Park, so this is one of the best places to explore history, science and art in Japan.
The Shitamachi Museum, the National Museum of Western Art, the National Museum of Nature and Science, the Tokyo National Museum and the Tokyo City Art Museum are among the best in the world.
The not-so-famous Shitamachi Museum has a large collection of historical portraits of Tokyo. Visitors often do not have the strength to come here after visiting other museums in Ueno Park, but if you want to learn more about the daily life of Tokyo in the old days, visit here.
In Tokyo, the lower city can be called the plain in the eastern part, on the banks of the Sumida River. This is not the poorest, but also not an aristocratic area. Merchants, artisans, fishermen, sailors lived there — people who earned their living by work. In the museum you will get acquainted not only with the history of Tokyo, but also with the culture, which has not changed in many ways to this day.

The best place to admire sakura in Tokyo
There are more than a thousand sakura trees in Ueno Park in Tokyo. In spring, from the end of March to the beginning of April, the park turns into a sea of pink petals. The Ueno Sakura Blossom Festival is one of the largest and most visited in all of Japan.
Recommended
Take a walk in the cheerful crowd along the main alley
Admire the night illumination of the trees
How to get there
Ueno Park is located on the Yamanote Line. It is easy to get here from anywhere in Tokyo. Ueno Station is just four stops from Tokyo Station.
At the station, follow the signs to the side entrance to the park.
Sakura planted by the Shogun
The first sakura trees on the site of Ueno Park were planted by the legendary Tokugawa Ieyasu, whose appointment as shogun began the Edo period (1603-1868).
A busy alley
The main alley stretches for about half a kilometer from the main entrance past the zoo and museums. About half of all the sakura trees in the park grow along it. During the period of admiring the flowering, about two million visitors pass through here who want to see a beautiful sight.
Eat, drink, have fun
Whole families, groups of friends and even colleagues come to the park to celebrate the arrival of Vienna under the cherry blossoms. You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks to picnics, or you can choose from traditional Hanami dishes in one of the trade pavilions: yakitori, takoyaki, yakisobu...
Evening lights
Picnics continue after sunset, when lanterns are lit along the paths of the park. Visitors come late to see a picture of illuminated flowering trees.
If you look closely
There is plenty to do in the park at other times of the year. You can visit gorillas and tigers at Japan's oldest Ueno Zoo or take a walk around Shinobazu Pond and see the picturesque red five-story pagoda of Kanei-ji Temple.
If you're lucky, you'll meet a geisha: there are about 50 practicing geisha in the neighboring Asakusa district. They rarely perform outdoors, but the hanami season at Ueno Park is considered a special event.

Tokyo’s Halal Wagyu Yakiniku Panga
Indulge in the tantalizing flavours of halal Wagyu Yakiniku at Tokyo’s Wagyu Yakiniku Panga. Carefully selected Wagyu beef, rich marbling, and delectable stew await diners. Lunch sets offer value with comforting miso soup. Each bite of the thick, tender, and juicy meat was a revelation, bursting with flavor and perfectly complemented by the accompanying dipping sauces.
One of the highlights of my dining experience was the seafood hot soup, a true testament to the restaurant’s commitment to authentic Korean flavors. Rich and hearty with an array of fresh seafood and vegetables, it was a dish that left a lasting impression on my taste buds.

Toshogu Shrine in Ueno Park
#thingstodo
Toshogu Shrine is located in Ueno Park and is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu. Head towards the Golden Temple from the approach, turn left and pay about 4 dollars (500 yen) to view the grounds. After paying the entrance fee and passing through the gate, you will be captivated by the magnificent sacred tree. There is a small shrine beyond that, where the leader of the 808 raccoon dogs in Shikoku is enshrined as the god of good luck and victory, so a visit is a must. When you look at the Golden Temple up close, U will be drawn to not only the beauty of the gold leaf, but also the beauty of the carvings. It is a must-see spot when sightseeing in Ueno.
