There is also a fish pond where you can feed the fish for a small fee. Great facilities including benches to rest on, drinking water dispenser, plastic bags for shoes when in the temple. It’s not often that you’ll find a temple colored in all white, but here in Chiang Rai you get to visit not only White Temple, but also Black Blue Temple. We found a tour in the Old Town district of Chiang Mai, and they provided a full day tour including pick up and drop off from our hotel. The trip from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai took around 3 hours, but there are stops in between for you to visit the hot springs. Chiang Rai is a lot colder and windier as compared to Chiang Mai, so do take note to bring some extra clothing. Much like every other temple in Thailand, short skirts and pants are not allowed for both guys and ladies, and if I remember correctly your bottoms must be at least knee length. Definitely very unique. 🕗Open every day from 08:00 to 17:00 💵 Entrance fee is 100 Thai baht (~$2,5) Tips for visiting: 🚁No drone zone: Flying drones in the temple's area is strictly prohibited without permission. Don't give tourists a bad reputation by ignoring the rules and trying to fly your drone out of sight. 🥻Modest dress code: As with many temples in Thailand, it's important to dress modestly. Avoid shorts, sleeveless shirts, and low-cut tops. They check pretty strictly at the entrance. ➡️Follow the direction of travel: You can only cross the bridge at the entrance once. Security was telling people off over the loudspeaker when they tried to cross back. It's also against the spirit of the place, you are only supposed to cross hell once. 👟Footwear: You'll need to remove your shoes before entering the main temple building, so it's a good idea to wear easy-to-remove footwear. 📸Arriving early doesn't really help here: There was already a queue at opening time. For the free travel in Chiang Mai + Chiang Rai Transportation: I rented a motorcycle in Chiang Mai, as I am a rider myself. Safety varies from person to person; if you can ride, it's fine. For those who can't ride or are just average, it's advisable to maintain balance! Some sections in Chiang Mai, like Nimman Road, are quite challenging due to heavy traffic and narrow roads. As for the Thai JC checkpoints, I didn't encounter any during my two-day rental, but I heard that if you're caught, a fine of 500 Thai Baht is sufficient and you can continue riding. There are plenty of car rentals on the streets of Chiang Mai, with fairly uniform prices. I rented near my hotel for convenience, at a price of 250 Thai Baht per day (24 hours means if you take it at 3 pm today, you return it at 3 pm the next day) with a deposit of 3000 Thai Baht (instant refund upon return). For Chiang Rai, I rented a car to drive myself. It took about 3 hours to get there, and a bit longer, around 3 hours and 30 minutes, on the way back because it was dark and I drove slower. The cost was 4500 Thai Baht (also for 24 hours), with a deposit of 5000 Thai Baht. Although Thailand has right-hand drive vehicles, which I was not very familiar with, I got used to it after driving around Chiang Mai city for a while and remembering the turns. There's no expressway from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, it's like a national highway in China. Thai drivers are quite disciplined and honestly, they have better driving etiquette than in China, so it's quite safe. Just be careful when driving at night on mountain roads, as they have sharper and steeper curves than ours. Accommodation: I recommend staying near Tha Phae Gate in Chiang Mai for convenience, as there are many 7-11s around. Finally, I visited some classic places. I understand that Chiang Mai, like our Lhasa, has many temples and is a holy Buddhist land, so I mostly visited temples to worship. I went to the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep (which houses a relic of the Buddha), the Great Buddha Stupa, and in Chiang Rai, the White Temple, Blue Temple, and Black House.

Don't look back when you cross the bridge! The toilet in the White Temple is all gold, aptly named the Golden Toilet. It's probably the most photographed toilet. 🛕Photography tips Among the three famous buildings in Chiang Rai, the White Temple and the Black Temple are the most beautiful in my opinion. The Blue Temple is too 'cartoonish'. It's really hard to take photos on the bridge when it's crowded. If you want a wide shot, it's possible from the stairs closest to the exit. You can use decorations to block tourists at the corners. The terrace connecting the two main halls is a good spot for people-free background shots from either side. #thingstodo Pretty astonishing architectural monuments. It is just outside of Chiang Rai, but probably one of the must-sees in comparison to some other temples. You have to dress politely as usual and pay 100 Baht per person, which is absolutely fine. It is a bigger place with several buildings (not just the temple itself). Great to walkt through, recharge a little bit, before the next trip starts. Additionally there is a chance for additional trips / exhibitions for an extra charge, but we did not went through those add-ons. The unique beauty, the whiteness and the delicate architecture make it a stunning temple to see. It is one of the most beautiful temple | have seen in Thailand. It gives you the feeling of being in a wonderland; Depending on the angle and how it shines, it looks like it is made of ice, lace, glass or porcelain, it is really one of a kind temple. The temple is outside the town of Chiang Rai. For travellers without a car rental or a prebooked tour, you can just hire a taxi from Chiang Rai, it is not expensive. Possibly one of the most stunning temples you will ever see. It glistens and sparkles white all day. Parts of it were restricted when I visited but this isn't all the time and it doesn't really take away from the views. The surrounding lake is full of healthy fish and the gardens are well kept. Various shops and, surprisingly, inexpensive restaurants line one side of the temple grounds. 100B as a tourist will get you into the temple grounds including a buddhist cave installation, an art gallery and an exhibition hall with various bits of history to study. Also a gift shop. A little map is provided on the back of your ticket and the toilets are also sparkly. Dress appropriately and shield yourself from sun in open areas. it gets mighty hot in low season. Get there early if you want less people in your photos.
