A sight you have to see to believe! 🌍
This lake is one of the prettiest I’ve seen in my life and is regarded by some as the most beautiful lake in the world. Yamdrok Lake is located near Shigatse in the Tibet Autonoumous Region. It stretches 130km in length and is also known as the green jade lake for its smooth surface and color hues from the reflection of the sunlight.
If you are living in China, you can travel to Tibet with a tour company! We used JoyTours and they were wonderful.

The Starry Sky and the Milky Way in Tibe
One of the highlights of this trip is to take pictures of the starry sky and the Milky Way. We settled in the camping base by the YamdrokTso Lake the previous night. The accommodation conditions are very simple. There are male dormitories and female dormitories. Each dormitory has 5-6 people, just like the dormitory in school. Because the altitude is a bit high, and I was worried about getting up to see the stars at night, I hardly slept all night. At 4 am in the morning, the team leader called up and took pictures of the starry sky. Once step out the dormitory door, you could see the white Milky Way and the stars by eyes. IPhones can also take some photos with straight shots. But it's still inferior to a professional camera, adjust the shutter to 25 seconds, make a good post, keep it still, Kata, the blockbuster is coming! It's like walking in the universe. In addition to the beautiful scenery of YamdrokTso Lake, the Milky Way and starry sky cannot be missed. Really recommended!

The bluest dreamland—Yamdrok Lake
Yamdrok Lake, also known as Yamdrok Yumtso, means 'Jade Lake' in Tibetan and is one of the three holy lakes of Tibet. It resembles coral branches, hence it is also called 'Upper Coral Lake' in Tibetan. Located in Langkazi County of Shannan region in Tibet, about 70 kilometers southwest of Lhasa, it is named alongside Namtso and Mapam Yumtso as one of the three great holy lakes of Tibet and is the largest inland lake on the northern slope of the Himalayas. The beauty of its lake and surrounding mountains is unparalleled in southern Tibet. Yamdrok Lake covers an area of about 675 square kilometers, with an altitude of 4,998 meters. To reach Yamdrok from Lhasa, one must cross the Gampala Pass at 5,030 meters. The lake surface is calm and a deep turquoise, like a sapphire on the plateau of southern Tibet.
Yamdrok Lake is famous for its crystal-clear waters and magnificent natural landscape. The lake's water comes from the melting snow and glaciers of the surrounding mountains, giving it a vibrant green color that is extremely clear and transparent. The surrounding mountains rise and fall, and the grasslands stretch far and wide, offering a spectacular view.
Yamdrok Lake is a unique natural scenic area that integrates plateau lakes, snow-capped mountains, islands, pastures, hot springs, wildlife, plants, and temples. It is known as one of the three great heavenly lakes of Tibet, along with Namtso and Mapam Yumtso.

There is a shade of blue called 'Yamdrok Lake Blue', one of the three sacred lakes of Tibet
Romance from Yamdrok Lake~|||Yamdrok Lake, in Tibetan, the Swan Lake.
'Heavenly paradise, earthly Yamdrok. Stars in the sky, cattle and sheep by the lake.' This saying circulates in Tibet, where there is no sea, but it has collected all the blues of the world, and Yamdrok Lake is a sapphire scattered on the plateau.
It's a pity you won't come to Tibet, so I have piled a Mani stone heap for you on the shore of Yamdrok Lake at an altitude of 4441 meters, each breeze that passes is a blessing for you. I hope everyone will be happy, joyful, safe, and successful in the new year, Tashi Delek!

Yamdrok Lake | A stunning sapphire that takes your breath away
A stunning sapphire that takes your breath away. Having seen Yamdrok Lake in the summer, it's captivating and beautiful. But I never expected the spring to make it even more astonishing.
The distant mountains are still covered with white snow, and the new grass has not yet grown, leaving the grassland a shade of earthy yellow. The azure lake water flows quietly between the mountains. The white of the snow mountains, the yellow of the grassland, and the blue of the lake water compose a fresh and clean picture, eliciting an involuntary exclamation: 'It's so beautiful!'
All photos were taken from the first viewing platform, where you can get a more complete view of Yamdrok Lake from an overlooking perspective. The wind is quite strong at the viewing platform, so remember to take windproof and warm measures.
If you have time, you can visit the Tibetan nomadic home next to Yamdrok Lake to taste the Tibetan hot pot. The restaurant has floor-to-ceiling glass windows, allowing you to enjoy the delicious food while admiring the beautiful scenery of Yamdrok Lake. What a delightful experience! After the meal, you can also walk to the lakeside to see the rippling waves and the clouds rolling by.

Tibet | A one-day self-driving tour from Lhasa to Yamdrok Lake
Visiting Lhasa in the off-season is really pleasant
🤜Yamdrok Lake🤛
Yamdrok Lake, one of the three holy lakes of Tibet, is the largest enclosed inland lake on the southern Tibetan Plateau, lying quietly like a sapphire among the mountains.
🤜One-day tour route🤛
Navigation: Yamdrok Lake Scenic Area. It's about a 2-hour drive from downtown Lhasa. A round trip from Lhasa by car in one day is very easy due to the good road conditions.
There are multiple viewing platforms around Yamdrok Lake, with the five main ones listed. As the lake winds along the mountains, each viewing platform offers a different view.
⭕ Yajiang River Valley Viewing Platform (passed on the way to Viewing Platform No. 1 via navigation)
Altitude: 4280 meters
Cost: 10 RMB for a photo with a lamb, 20 RMB for a photo with a Tibetan mastiff or yak
⭕ Yamdrok Lake No. 1 Viewing Platform (main viewing platform)
Altitude: 4998 meters
Cost: 60 RMB per person (free in winter)
⭕ Yamdrok Lake No. 2 Viewing Platform (Langbuqi Viewing Platform)
Location: About 3km from the main viewing platform
Cost: 5 RMB sanitation fee
The view is just as good as the main viewing platform
⭕ Yamdrok Lake No. 3, 4, 5 Viewing Platforms
Cost: Free (including parking fee)
All three platforms allow for close-up views of Yamdrok Lake, with No. 4 particularly recommended for its many seabirds, yak photo opportunities, and pristine scenery; No. 5 has facilities such as plank roads, sky ladders, and a sky realm.
‼️Important Notes‼️
To reach the Ludingla Viewing Platform and Rituo Temple, you have to travel 20km on a washboard road
WandererWandering
Free admission and no detours, discover the hidden routes and less-known scenic spots of Yamdrok Lake!
The self-drive distance from Lhasa to Yamdrok Lake is about 105 kilometers, and most people head straight for the viewing platform, finding the 2-hour drive along the way quite boring. However, we took the Ali southern route and sneakily climbed up from the back of Yamdrok Lake! For dozens of kilometers along the way, it's all about the lake and the sky! Absolutely gorgeous!
-
In the second picture, the left side is the regular route, and the right side is the route we took, which requires crossing several mountains, and then there are also winding mountain roads. The third picture is a real test of driving skills (consider a 4x4 rental car of 50w or above), for the brave and resolute! But the scenery is indeed beautiful, with the openness of the plateau grassland, where you can almost reach out and touch the sky!
-
No admission fee is charged at all, and for the eight or nine of us, we even made a little profit~ The lakeside road offers even more pastoral scenery, with mountains full of grass, herds of cattle and sheep by the lake, and a few low houses in the distance, feeling like driving in a painting.
-
The lake is as blue as the sky, with a shallow layer that is clear enough to see the stones at the bottom of the lake. It is said that every stone under the lake is engraved with Buddhist scriptures, and it is a sacred lake in the hearts of Tibetans, well protected ecologically. Tibetans do not eat fish, but the older generation would dry the fish from Yamdrok Lake and grind it into powder. Whenever there is a woman with a difficult labor, they dissolve it in water for her to drink, and it is sure to facilitate a smooth delivery.

Who would have thought that I went to Tibet for a business trip?
Who would have thought that I went to Tibet for a business trip?
I'm not a self-driving tourist, not a backpacker, and I don't have a great wish to enter Tibet, but I just went like this, without the 318 National Road, without the Highlander, just brutally flew over from Chengdu at 4 o'clock in the morning!
🧳Preparation before departure:
1. Stick to Rhodiola for two weeks before departure, don't hesitate, don't hesitate, when you get there you will know you ate right!
2. High level of sun protection, the sunshine there I have not seen in Shanghai, it feels not sunbathing, but the sun "covers" you
3. June to September each year is a good time to go to Tibet, don't think that you wear less in the hot summer, look at what I wore in September (Figure 23)
🍽Dining suggestions:
1. Lhasa is mostly Sichuan cuisine and noodles. To be honest, if you go for a week, the diet is indeed unbearable, drink more water (not hot is also fine), if possible, bring more biscuits, bread, small snacks, vitamin tablets are the best, supplement intake. The yogurt near the Potala Palace is worth a try, it's a very authentic taste!
📌Small Tips
1. It is recommended to stay in a better hotel, so that you can rest as much as possible at night, the plateau reaction is still very obvious. If you haven't arranged anti-altitude medicine for yourself two weeks in advance, it is recommended to find a pharmacy in Lhasa (there are in the city) Han Chinese doctors will recommend various anti-good far reflection drugs, generally choose plateau safety
2. The Potala Palace is more than 3,000 meters above sea level and requires advance real-name ID reservation. The steps of the Potala Palace are very high, remember to climb slowly, don't think you are physically fit, speed up, the consequences are very uncomfortable, don't believe you try?
3. When you get to the Red Palace, due to the smell of butter lamps inside all year round, and the smell of not washed red-robed people, it gave me a strong smell impact, but remember, no matter how bad it smells, you have to smile 😊
4. About the restaurant in Octagonal Street (Figure 8) is the restaurant related to the rumored girlfriend of Cangyang Gyatso, it should be a local internet celebrity restaurant! Whether the food is delicious or not is not important, leaving your handwriting and wishes is a bit fun. Notebooks are classified by place, you can choose to leave a message from your city
5. There are many literary and artistic young women at the entrance of Jokhang Temple, single dogs can rush, add a WeChat is no problem
👍Most recommended:
Yamdrok Lake is the Top1 of my Lhasa trip in my mind
When you get there, when you find that you can't speak, you get my current natural speechless mentality! The literal translation of her meaning is "the jade lake of the pasture above" (Figure 1234) It is best to find a Chinese driver who grew up in Tibet, if conditions permit, charter a car up the mountain, you can see the scenery and communicate along the way. Generally, you can see the water burial, but remember not to take pictures, it is not polite and not auspicious!

Lhasa, the sun and moon in my heart
Lhasa, a plateau city full of mystery, is known as the 'City of Sunlight'. Here, the Potala Palace stands on the top of the mountain, telling stories of a thousand years. Walking in Barkhor Street, feeling the unique charm of Tibetan culture, tasting a bowl of hot butter tea, it seems to hear the echo of time. In Lhasa, faith and nature coexist harmoniously, and every breath is full of sacred power.
I really love this place so much.

Still hesitating where to go for summer travel? Come to Yamdrok Lake in Tibet
The lake is the heart of the earth
Crystal clear, reflecting the clouds in the sky
The rolling mountains, stacked on the verdant grassland, those who come to Tibet, few do not go to see the lake
Because they are water from the sky, symbolizing free souls and youth
In the heat of summer
The temperature in many tourist spots across the country does not drop
The summer temperature in Tibet is suitable, if you want to escape the heat, why not come to Yamdrok Lake~
Only about Yamdrok Lake
The beauty of Yamdrok Lake, in the mountains, in the snow peaks, in the clouds
Mountains surround the lake, the continuous mountain range winds like a dragon
Like silk, like a scroll, as if guiding you to embrace a broader world.
In this world, the earth reflects the landscape like a mirror, with a high degree of purity
Under the contrast of the blue sky and white clouds, it is like a dreamland, isolating the hustle and bustle of the world.
The blue and clear water of Yamdrok Lake, under the contrast of the green mountains, appears particularly transparent, with the embellishment of the large eye clouds
This scroll has more natural rhythm
The must-see temple--Rito Temple
It stands alone by the jade Yamdrok Lake, it is a secret place that 99% of tourists can't reach, you can have a 360° panoramic view of Yamdrok Lake, you can explore the daily life of ascetic monks, and you can experience the double blow of vision and spirit.
The Rito Temple built on the top of the mountain is a viewing platform itself,
Through the wooden ladder, you can climb to the top of the temple.
Blue sky and blue lake, brown mountain and red temple, can be seen at a glance.
Rito Temple is not a temple site, but a living temple, there is only one monk in the temple--Awang Pingcuo. His day and night persistence, daily chanting and practicing here, enduring this loneliness is his farthest practice in this life.
A small island, a temple, constitutes a monk's long life.

Tibet | One of the three holy lakes, Yamdrok Lake
I've been to Yamdrok Lake three times, and today was the most perfect. Beautiful scenery needs good weather to bless it, and it's only perfect when the time and place are right.
❤️Recommended reason:
Yamdrok Lake, along with Namtso and Manasarovar, is known as one of the three holy lakes of Tibet. Yamdrok Lake is a typical plateau barrier lake, with an irregular shape, many branches, and a winding and twisting shoreline, which is why there are many viewing platforms around Yamdrok Lake, each presenting a different beauty of the lake.
🌟Highlight feature:
Surrounded by perennial snow-capped mountains and ice peaks, the lake, snow peaks, and blue sky blend into one.
🌟Highlight feature:
Yamdrok Lake's blue changes with the varying light, producing different colors of water, light blue, dark blue, peacock blue; the water is always blue, yet never the same shade of blue.

lf-driving Tour Treasure Guide in Tibet
1⃣️Recommended self-driving travel routes near Tibet: Lhasa-Yamdrok Lake, Lhasa-Namtso, two routes close to the city area.
2⃣️Among them, the route from Lhasa to Yamdrok Lake has a shorter driving time, taking about 2 and a half hours to reach the Yamdrok Lake scenic area. The first half of the journey is easy to drive, but approaching the lake is a mountainous climbing route with narrow roads and protection, drive slowly as there are many turns and uphill roads. Once you reach the Yamdrok Lake scenic area, you can go downhill to the lakeside. There are a few homestays by the lake where you can book online in advance.
3⃣️The self-driving route from Lhasa to Namtso is relatively longer, taking about 4 hours to reach the lakeside scenic area. However, this entire route is a gentle slope and nearly flat, which is easier to drive. The whole way is open highland prairie scenery. If you go late, you can stay in Bangor County, which is over 100 kilometers north of the lake.
4⃣️Both routes require more than four days, and it is best to choose self-driving tours between August and October.
5⃣️You will definitely encounter high altitude hypoxia along the way. Those small bottles of oxygen have little effect, it is best to rent a large green oxygen cylinder, which is very useful for altitude sickness. Be sure to have enough water and food in the car.
6⃣️It is best to have companions for self-driving, a four-seat SUV is cheap in the off-season with prices ranging from 300-600 per day, and there are car rental points in the Lhasa city are

Yamdrok Lake | Close to the sky, far from people
I envy the cows here,
Living in such a scenery every day,
I really want to eat grass by the lake🤣
📍Yamdrok Lake (Yamdrok)
One of the three major sacred lakes in Tibet, with an altitude of over 4,000 meters,
The wind is very gentle, and the lake is also very gentle🍃.
Compared to the viewing platform, I prefer the scenery along the way,
I don't know which is bluer, the sky or the lake, the clouds seem to be within reach,
The herd of cows is leisurely eating grass by the lake,
Only when you get off the car and walk here, do you feel truly integrated into nature.
✅Route: Lhasa-Yamdrok Lake-Karola Glacier (return the same way)
Yamdrok Lake is not far from Lhasa, it can be round-trip in one day, it is recommended to drive by yourself or charter a car, you can stop to take pictures when you encounter a scenery you like.
✅Yamdrok Lake is very large, half of the journey is along the lake, in addition to checking in at the viewing platform, stopping the car along the way to walk by the lake, getting close to the cows in Tibet, and stacking Mani piles by the lake to pray for blessings, is also an interesting experience.
🚘Road conditions: To go to Yamdrok Lake, you need to pass through the Karola Pass first. The road is very smooth, but there is a long winding mountain road. I don’t know how many bends have passed. It is a test of driving skills. If you are driving for the first time, you need to be mentally prepared.

One of the beautiful three sacred lakes in Tibet, Yamdrok Lake
Yamdrok Lake is located in Langkazi County, Shannan City, Tibet Autonomous Region, and is a national 5A tourist attraction. Its lake surface reaches an altitude of 4,441 meters, with a lake surface area of 675 square kilometers. It is a saltwater lake and also a tectonic lake. Yamdrok Lake, together with Namtso and Mapam Yumco, are known as the three sacred lakes of Tibet. It is the largest inland lake on the northern slope of the Himalayas, boasting the unparalleled beauty of lake and mountain views in southern Tibet. In Tibetan, Yamdrok Lake means 'turquoise lake swan pool'. The lake has many tributaries, like coral branches, so it is also called 'coral lake above' in Tibetan. Yamdrok Lake is a plateau barrier lake, which was formed about a year ago due to glacial mudslides blocking the river. Its shape is very irregular, with many branches, winding lake shores, and it is accompanied by three small lakes such as Kongmu Co, Chen, Co and Jiu Co. It used to be an outflow lake in history, but later due to the shrinkage of the lake water, it became an endorheic lake and was divided into several small lakes.

Yamdrok Lake | The turquoise earrings scattered by the goddess
The turquoise earrings scattered by the goddess. On the way to Yamdrok Lake, the sky was overcast, and I couldn't help worrying whether I could see its azure appearance. Suddenly, the fog outside the car window dissipated, and the hazy veil was lifted in an instant, and a bright blue jumped into my eyes, which was so amazing that I couldn't help but exclaim.
Originally planned to stay at the Langbuchi viewing platform, but due to the full parking lot, I had to continue to find a suitable viewing point. Finally parked at a viewing platform where you can walk to the water, free parking, there are dry toilets (2 yuan/person/time), and there are paid yaks and lambs for photo taking by the lake.
Overlooking, Yamdrok Lake is azure, and up close, Yamdrok Lake is a gradient of sky blue. There are Mani piles, prayer flags, white wild flowers by the lake, and villages surrounded by rapeseed fields and green mountains in the distance. Everything you see is refreshing. Standing by the lake against the wind, it's very comfortable.
Yamdrok Lake is really too big, the car has been walking along the lakeside road for a long time, and its figure disappeared from the car window. The scenery along the lake is unique and beautiful, and I can't help but keep recording with my phone.
If you have time, you might as well drive along the lake for a while, you will see a more three-dimensional and diverse Yamdrok Lake, or sit quietly by the lake, watch the clouds and the green mountains and rivers, and enjoy the beautiful time alone with nature.

Belonging to Tibet - Yamdrok Lake
Original camera micro-adjustment straight out
From the moment you see Yamdrok Lake through the heavy mountains, you have to marvel, there is such a sacred and beautiful lake in the world, like a long sapphire, inlaid on the earth
The 6-day and 5-night route reported is so tired
I also watched the weather forecast in advance and it was clear
The leader said that today's weather is the best day
Hahaha, I have been happy for a long time in my heart
Pay attention to high anti: the altitude here is relatively high, don't run, you can walk slowly
Also adjust the breathing state, the ultraviolet rays are too strong, you must do a good job of sun protection
