#springflower Inside the palace complex in Balchik, it's worth exploring beyond the garden. The residence of Queen Marie spans three floors, where the atmosphere of her secluded life has been lovingly recreated. 🛋️ The Queen's Private Quarters You can see the dining room, study, bedroom, and bathroom of the Queen. The bathroom is designed in an Eastern style, with an Orthodox dome rising above it — a rare architectural feature. The bedroom and boudoir preserve original interior details, as well as a small room for the ladies-in-waiting. 🗝️ Other Notable Features · Antique Furniture: A wardrobe from 1764 stands here — one of the oldest items in the complex. · Clocks from Constantinople: A magnificent birthday gift to the Queen, still located in her chambers. · Stone Throne: Set on the terrace by the palace — it was here that Marie loved to watch the sunrise over the sea. · Hall of Relics: The main hall displays two icons from 1721, brought from Cyprus specifically for the construction of the chapel. Today, the second floor houses an art gallery exhibiting works by Bulgarian and foreign artists. 💡 Tip: Be sure to approach the stone throne on the terrace — it offers the best view of the sea and the garden. In May, when the garden is in bloom, this spot is especially beautiful. 🌸🏰🌊✨

#springflower In spring, the cactus collection in Balchik is just beginning to wake up from its winter dormancy. In April and May, the cacti have not yet been planted outdoors — night frosts are dangerous for them, so the giants are still waiting in greenhouses and hothouses. But that doesn't mean there's nothing to see! Even in the greenhouses, you can admire unique succulent specimens that are starting to form buds. By the end of May, some early species are already preparing to bloom, sending out amazing flower stalks. This is the time when the collection is getting ready for the summer season, and you can witness the awakening process. The true peak of cactus beauty comes in June and July, when they are planted outdoors and mass flowering begins. But if you are visiting in spring, don't miss the Tulip Parade — that's the main show in April and May. 📍 Address: Akademika Daki Yordanov Street, Balchik, Bulgaria 🕒 Accessible: year-round (in greenhouses), outdoors — from June 💡 Tip: Ask the gardeners which cactus species are currently blooming. Spring flowering in the greenhouses is a delicate thing — but if you're lucky, you'll witness a true miracle. 🌵🌸✨

#springflower Within the Quiet Nest Palace complex lies the University Botanical Garden — one of the main gems of the Bulgarian coast. Founded in 1955 by Academician Daki Yordanov, it is today considered the largest and richest botanical garden in the Balkans. 🌸 Over 3,500 Species from Around the World Spread across 19 hectares, the garden is home to over 3,500 plant species. Here you can find exotic sequoias, magnolias, candy trees, rubber trees, and Ginkgo biloba — a unique specimen of such size and age that can only be seen here and at the Royal Botanic Gardens in London. 🌷 Spring Tulip Parade In spring, the famous Tulip Parade takes place here. Over 85 varieties and 60,000 tulips create a true carpet of flowers. In addition to tulips, violets, forget-me-nots, daisies, and other spring flowers are also planted. 🌊 Architectural Features The garden is spread across three terraces descending toward the sea, with significant changes in elevation. The park is designed as an imitation of the Cretan labyrinth, and its paths are paved with local shell limestone and antique millstones. 📍 Address: Akademika Daki Yordanov Street, Balchik, Bulgaria 🕒 Opening Hours: · Summer (May–August): 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM · Winter (November–March): 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM 💰 Entry: adults — 15 BGN (~7.5 EUR), students/seniors — 7 BGN, children under 7 — free 💡 Tip: The best time to visit is April–May, during the Tulip Parade when the garden is in full bloom. Be sure to walk down to the sea through the garden terraces — the views are incredible. 🌸🌊✨

#springflower Within the Quiet Nest Palace complex, at the villa of Romanian Prince Nicholas, lies a unique winery — the Royal Winery Queen Marie. It is not just a shop, but a genuine winemaking estate operating according to ancient recipes. 👑 The Main Highlight — "Royal Wine" The winery's bestseller is "Royal Wine," crafted from a recipe found in Queen Marie's diaries. It is a blend of three grape varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot) with the addition of blue plums. 🍷 What Else to Try · Dukessa — a wine with a natural bitter almond aroma, for coquettes. · Missi — a muscat wine with honey and spicy herbs. Named after the Queen's nickname, "Missy." · Ice Wine — made from grapes harvested after the first frost; a rare and expensive delicacy. · Fruit Wines — made from figs, raspberries, and melons — a unique offering of the winery. · Collectible Rarities — the winery holds a private collection of bottles: Gamza from 1894, Mavrud from 1956, and brandy produced in 1945. 💎 Unique Atmosphere The winery is located right in the Queen's cellar, where she once entertained guests. Today, you can enjoy a free tasting and purchase a bottle to take home — right in the very room where the Queen herself once sat. 📍 Location: Quiet Nest Palace Complex, Balchik, Bulgaria 🕒 Best time to visit: all season long, especially July and August (peak tourist season), but the winery is open year-round. 💡 Tip: The winery has no retail outlets outside the complex — their wines are sold only here. Be sure to try the dessert wines made from figs, raspberries, and melons — a local specialty you won't find anywhere else. 🍇🍷✨

#springflower Within the architectural complex of Queen Marie of Edinburgh's palace, among Moorish arches and Mediterranean vegetation, stands a small chapel that holds the most poignant story of this place. The chapel was built in 1929. Its architectural design is an exact replica of a 15th-century church that Queen Marie saw during her visit to Trikomo in Cyprus. The name of the chapel is Stella Maris, Latin for "Star of the Sea" — one of the titles of the Virgin Mary, the patroness of travelers and sailors. The most tragic secret lies in the Queen's last wish. Dying in 1938 in Romania, Marie asked that her heart be buried in this chapel — in the place she called her true home. Her wish was fulfilled: her heart in a golden casket was brought to Balchik. However, after World War II, when Southern Dobruja was ceded to Bulgaria, the Romanian royal family took the relic back. Is the chapel empty today? Or does it contain a replica? A mystery awaiting you. Today, the chapel exudes an atmosphere of solitude and peace, so beloved by the Queen. It remains one of the main tourist attractions, reminding us not of political borders, but of the human soul's ability to love a place so deeply that it would give away a piece of itself. 📍 Where to find it: Quiet Nest Palace Complex, Balchik, Bulgaria (northern part of the garden above the sea) 💡 Tip: Seek out this "little box" in the rocks. The best time to approach the chapel is at sunset — the silence here becomes almost tangible. ⛪🌊💔✨

#springflower Right by the Black Sea, on steep cliffs, hides one of the most romantic corners of Europe — the palace of the Romanian Queen Marie of Edinburgh. In 1921, tired of the noisy royal court, the Queen fell in love with this wild bay and decided to build a sanctuary here. Thus the "Quiet Nest" residence (Tenha Yuva) was born. Italian architects created an elegant palace blending Moorish, Bulgarian, and Mediterranean motifs. By the sea stands a stone throne where the Queen loved to watch the sunrise. On her deathbed, Marie wished for her heart to be buried in her beloved chapel, so she could remain here forever. 📍 Location: 31 km from Varna, Balchik 🕒 Open: year-round 💰 Entry: 8 BGN (garden) + 5 BGN (palace) 💡 Tip: Visit the "Silver Well." They say if you see your reflection in it and toss a coin — your wish will come true. 🌊👑✨
