Lovely Stay but Not Without Drawbacks — traveler post in Bathalaa

Lovely Stay but Not Without Drawbacks

This was our 25th trip to a Maldivian resort, and we enjoyed our stay at Sandies Bathala. The hotel has certainly changed a lot since its reconstruction after our visit in September 2017. Back then, there were only about 10-12 guests, while this time, the occupancy rate was approximately 90%, with most being fellow countrymen, alongside some Italians and Germans. We stayed in water villa 208, which, despite a few flaws, was quite comfortable. Its location, offering easy access to the reef, was ideal. Surprisingly, there were many small children at the resort, which seemed unusual since Bathala Island is traditionally known for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. The island lacks a kids’ club, and the entry points for swimming are quite limited. Before our trip, we were concerned about coral damage, which has become common in many Maldivian reefs. However, we were delighted to find a large number of healthy corals, which is remarkable these days. **Pros of the hotel:** 1. Snorkeling on the house reef remains fun and enjoyable, with well-preserved corals and plenty of marine life. 2. The hotel staff did an excellent job. Our room was cleaned impeccably, and the chefs, waiters, and bartenders were all friendly. 3. No mosquitoes in the resort, unlike some other Maldivian hotels. 4. The water villa was cozy, featuring a spacious deck with a large awning. 5. The hotel grounds were well-maintained, making it comfortable to walk barefoot everywhere. 6. The abundance of orchids was a lovely touch. 7. A very pleasant Russian-speaking guest relations manager, Nika. **Cons of the hotel:** 1. The restaurant food was average for our taste. Other than pizza and pasta, we hoped for more variety. 2. There were few good spots for easy swimming entry into the ocean. 3. We were excited about the sunset fishing trip, but it was disappointing. The chosen locations were poorly selected—one had shallows due to low tide, and the other had strong currents that made it difficult to drop bait. The fish we caught tasted bland and seemed more boiled than grilled. 4. In the water villa, the lowest steps submerged in water were awkward for climbing in and out. Water pressure was weak, and there wasn’t an outdoor shower in the bathroom. Also, there was no designated place to dry swimsuits. Overall, we liked the hotel, but we’re unlikely to visit for a third time.

Great Service and Beautiful Setting, But Limited for Kids — traveler post in Bathalaa

Great Service and Beautiful Setting, But Limited for Kids

Staff: Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by a Russian-speaking staff member named Nika, who gave us all the necessary information and guided us to the hotel. The room service staff was very accommodating, working around our child's sleep schedule for cleaning times. The restaurant assigned us a personal waiter who was incredibly helpful with our son's meals. Room: We were pleasantly surprised to get an upgrade to a water villa, which was a delightful experience. Our villa, number 213, had a fantastic entry into the water, and our child loved watching the fish. The room was well-maintained, with twice-daily cleanings keeping everything spotless. Ocean: While entering the water in some areas was tricky due to coral, there was a nice access point near the pool and swing. We noticed the beach bungalows around 145-146 had great access. Near the water villas, the entry was decent, but you couldn't swim too far. During our stay, we spotted sharks, turtles, and rays. We were also lucky with the weather, having six consistently sunny days out of ten. The remaining days were partly cloudy with occasional rain in the afternoons, but it didn’t bother us. Food: This was the only area that fell short. The variety, especially for kids, was lacking as most dishes were spicy or heavily seasoned. Breakfast was the only meal we had no issues with. Thankfully, our waiter went out of his way to bring custom meals for our son in the evenings. Overall: Our experience was very positive. The island is small, well-kept, and it only took 15 minutes to walk around it, even with our child. The staff is attentive and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. While we highly recommend this place, it might not be the best option for families with children unless they’re really into snorkeling, as the marine life is abundant. Big thanks to the hotel for an amazing stay! 👍🏽

A Serene Island Retreat with Unforgettable Experiences — traveler post in Bathalaa

A Serene Island Retreat with Unforgettable Experiences

We recently returned from a fantastic stay at Sandies Bathala and can confidently say this little island is a true paradise! The absolute highlight for us was the stunning house reef. Stepping directly from our water villa into an extraordinary underwater world was incredible—by far the best house reef access we've ever had. The snorkeling was phenomenal, and our manta ray excursion was absolutely magical. Watching these majestic creatures glide through the water created unforgettable travel memories. We're especially grateful to Recreation Manager Tattu and his team for making this experience so special. Our water villa was simple in design but very comfortable, with an excellent mattress and all the essentials. Sometimes simplicity is perfection when you're surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Maldives. The food throughout our stay was delightful, offering plenty of variety. We particularly enjoyed the fresh tuna carpaccio and grilled reef fish served daily at both lunch and dinner. Another favorite was the pizza and pasta station, available at every meal. A huge thank you to Executive Chef Thusita for accommodating our dietary needs and ensuring we were well taken care of. And a special mention to Sous Chef Amith for crafting the best lasagna we've ever had! The people of Bathala truly made our stay special. Ali, our server, was kind and attentive, taking excellent care of us. Ibrahim, the Restaurant Manager, ensured everything ran smoothly. The front desk team was equally welcoming, especially David, who helped us manage several tricky arrangements with ease. Last but certainly not least, Guest Services Manager Upul deserves our deepest thanks. He went above and beyond to make our stay seamless, handling everything flawlessly. In the absence of a Resort Manager, Upul clearly leads with exceptional dedication and care, proving to be an invaluable asset to Sandies Bathala. Having visited many beautiful destinations, we believe Bathala stands out with its extraordinary reef, relaxed vibe, and genuinely caring staff. We leave with cherished memories—particularly of those awe-inspiring manta rays—and we wholeheartedly recommend Sandies Bathala for an idyllic getaway.

A Perfect Retreat for Peace and Relaxation — traveler post in Bathalaa

A Perfect Retreat for Peace and Relaxation

The best haven for peace and mental well-being has one name: "Sandies Bathala." For our second trip to the Maldives, we chose this splendid resort, and it absolutely lived up to our expectations, offering us a fantastic experience. Nestled in an enchanting setting, this resort may be small, but it has everything you need to make your vacation unforgettable. We spent an incredible, priceless week barefoot, blessed with wonderful weather that enhanced the beauty of this paradise, defined by nature's splendor, peace, and tranquility, allowing us to disconnect entirely from the rest of the world. Every corner and detail was meticulously maintained—super clean from the gardens to the rooms, the bar, and the restaurant. The staff were incredibly professional, kind, and always smiling. A special mention to our room attendant (room 137), our waiter, and the chef in the pasta corner for their excellent service and attention. The bar and restaurant facilities were of exceptional quality, providing impeccable service. The beach, water, lagoon, and coral reef were absolutely breathtaking. For my birthday, they surprised me with a lovely themed cake and room setup—a truly touching and unexpected gesture. From the Neos flight to the seaplane transfer and our stay at the resort, everything was flawless. A well-deserved 5-star experience, and we can't thank them enough for making this vacation so special and unforgettable. Highly recommended!

A Dream Honeymoon in Paradise — traveler post in Bathalaa

A Dream Honeymoon in Paradise

Our honeymoon in the Maldives was a dream come true, and this resort made it even more extraordinary. The location is absolutely stunning: crystal-clear water, pristine white beaches, and an atmosphere of tranquility that's hard to put into words. The resort itself is beautiful, meticulously maintained, and seamlessly integrated with nature. The rooms were comfortable and always spotless. A big shout-out to the entertainment team, who were engaging yet never intrusive, and to the variety of activities offered, which allowed us to enjoy unforgettable experiences like snorkeling and moments of relaxation and fun. The food was excellent, with a wide selection of fresh and delicious dishes. What truly made the difference was the staff: professional, cheerful, and always available, they made us feel welcomed and pampered throughout our stay. This is an experience we will cherish forever. We highly recommend this resort to anyone dreaming of a perfect vacation in the Maldives.

Maldives: A Stunning Paradise — traveler post in Bathalaa

Maldives: A Stunning Paradise

The Maldives are truly the most beautiful place in the world. This island is like a little gem, completely surrounded by a coral reef. I want to thank the island's biologists, Matteo and Simone, who organized safe snorkeling trips both in the morning and afternoon, and were a great help with my child. Blessed with good weather and a bit of luck, we enjoyed a fantastic week. The food was good, and the entertainment was enjoyable—present but never intrusive.

A Dream Stay at a Relaxing Island Paradise — traveler post in Bathalaa

A Dream Stay at a Relaxing Island Paradise

I stayed on this wonderful island from May 12 to 19, traveling alone. Although I was technically alone, I had the chance to meet other amazing guests and, most importantly, get to know the entire Francorosso staff ❤️. I booked an overwater accommodation facing the sunset. The bungalow was very spacious with a dreamy terrace—just two strokes with fins, and you were right on the reef. Every day, a staff member came to tidy up—cleaning in the morning, and in the evening they’d bring fresh towels. The service was truly outstanding. It's a small, charming island, simple and low-key. You arrive, take off your shoes, and forget about them entirely until departure. Everything is on the sand—bar, restaurant, reception—it’s all so beautiful, truly a unique experience. Though the spa is available, I didn't use it. The diving center is fully equipped—I went on two dives with Sebastian. He was absolutely wonderful: professional, kind, and incredibly sweet ❤️. Don’t miss shopping with Baskaran ❤️. He designed a custom dress for me, and it turned out stunning ❤️. Watersports are led by incredible biologists. They offer excursions and all the snorkeling gear you need🦈. The reef is breathtaking: vibrant, colorful, and teeming with life—turtles, small sharks, fish, moray eels, stingrays, and countless other marine creatures. There are thousands of colorful coral species, all alive and thriving. Just remember, we’re guests—so respect is key. Don’t walk on the reef or touch anything. Just watch, and enjoy the spectacular sights it offers ❤️. To the Francorosso staff—I love you 😂❤️. Everyone was so kind and cheerful, creating lovely atmospheres during evening events and always being there for anything, whether it was a problem or just a friendly chat. Final thoughts? I could go on and on, but if you're looking for a place that feels like home, without too much hassle, where tranquility reigns alongside the beauty of the Maldives, book your trip and fly to Bathala ❤️.

Perfect Spot for a Vacation — traveler post in Bathalaa

Perfect Spot for a Vacation

An amazing place for a holiday. The trip turned out fantastic! Thank you for organizing everything so wonderfully! Both the hotel and the beachfront villa (by the way, they're better than the water villas, fact!) were incredible, and a special thanks for the surrounding reef! Every day, an instructor took us along the reef twice. I personally couldn't get enough of it—(no need to bring masks, snorkels, fins, or vests—they provide everything, and the selection is great). The reef is unbelievably beautiful! It’s on par with the Red Sea for sure! A huge variety of fish everywhere! What’s remarkable is that the reef is still alive!!! There's also a heron living on the island—it's fascinating to watch it. In the evening, when the lights turn on at the pier, countless fish of different kinds gather—you could watch them for hours. The food is excellent! Diverse and delicious! At the reception (they greet, stay in touch, and see you off) there’s a Russian-speaking guy named Mirsaid. Special thanks to him for communicating so smoothly 🙌. The internet on the island is excellent! (There’s no TV, but we brought a laptop and streamed movies effortlessly.) The staff is friendly and welcoming. Room service is twice a day, always with fresh towels. Honestly, there’s nothing to complain about! 👌🏻🙏 Highly recommend—even for picky travelers! ❤️

Amazing Island for Relaxation — traveler post in Bathalaa

Amazing Island for Relaxation

The island is staffed with a fantastic team of professionals who are all very polite and welcoming. The entire island is covered in white sand, and there are no traditional paths, so footwear isn’t necessary—though lightweight shoes might be helpful if the sand feels too hot. The tourist cottages are situated as close to the shore as possible and designed for a comfortable stay. In the central area of the island, you'll find the dining hall (buffet style), reception, a bar, a diving club, a souvenir shop, and other service facilities. The "overwater bungalows" are located farther from the shore, and access to the ocean is via a ladder. However, the seabed there is rocky and made up of coral, so walking barefoot isn't ideal; we were glad to have brought water shoes. This is a wonderful spot for a quiet getaway, whether you're a couple or traveling with children.

Still Paradise, But Slightly Less Perfect — traveler post in Bathalaa

Still Paradise, But Slightly Less Perfect

We absolutely adore Bathala! This marks our third stay on this tiny paradise island, having visited in the past two years as well. Last year, I titled my review "If I could give 6 stars then I would." While this year doesn't quite reach that same pinnacle, the island is still deserving of a solid 5 stars. Bathala is small, its reef is stunning, and every dip in the water reveals incredible marine species—we left with countless amazing photos and videos. The staff are friendly, and though most guests are Italian, there’s great English spoken, which is a plus. We love the food, the accommodation, and the island as a whole—however... Part of the charm of our Maldives trips is the excursions—spotting whale sharks, mantas, enjoying line fishing, and other adventures—and Bathala has always offered excellent services for these experiences. This year, though, things didn't seem as well-organized or promoted. Planned activities lacked clear schedules, timelines kept shifting, and it felt like we had to push more to get what we wanted. I’m not sure what changed, but it wasn’t as smooth or seamless as before. Hopefully, the management team will consider addressing this. That said, there’s nothing that would keep us from returning for future visits. We look forward to reconnecting with many of our Bathala friends again. Lastly, a special shout-out to Lahpo from the watersports center. His boundless enthusiasm and incredible guidance made our snorkeling tours unforgettable—his ability to spot whale sharks and mantas on our private excursions was exceptional. Thank you, Lahpo! We can’t wait to see you again. 😁🏝🌞

W Islands, super beautiful water houses - highly recommended There is an underground nightclub on the island and the atmosphere is great! The full body massage is also a great experience! Especially snorkeling and hang gliding! With a jet ski

The 1.5-hour speedboat ride was really uncomfortable. I recommend taking motion sickness pills in advance. But after arriving on the island, I felt really great. There were towering old trees and I didn't have to worry about being exposed to the sun. There was also the famous Tail Beach. I stayed in a premium sand house for 2 nights and a premium water house for 2 nights. In general, I liked the retro sand house. The water house was more modern, and there were not as many trees as the sand house.

Just 25 minutes by seaplane. The water is clear and you can see sharks. 🦈

A truly amazing island! The accommodations aren't comparable to resort islands, but they're still clean and comfortable, and the food isn't as bad as bringing instant noodles! Enjoying such a beautiful island experience for a reasonable price, with opportunities for diving and experiencing the local culture is fantastic!

It was my first time to Maldives and I felt the hospitality of Constance Halaveli Hotel. I would like to thank Awsam for his butler-like service. It was a great hotel and their service. I really want to go there again.
