· Dongjiang Lake truly lives up to its reputation as a National Geographic-featured Chinese beauty 🥰 And it's surprisingly close to Changsha—perfect for a spontaneous trip with the kids! Misty views 🌫️, caves 🕳️, boat rides 🚢, hiking, waterfalls, rafting, performances 🎭, interactive activities, and night views 🌃—it has it all. And that's not all—it's also a foodie paradise! It perfectly suits my Changsha taste buds 🌶️! Come on! Follow my lead 👣 and let's go ❗️ · 🟡 Science bit: Because the water in Dongjiang Lake comes from the Dongjiang Dam, which is shielded from the sun year-round, the massive temperature difference creates a dreamy mist. The canyon's geography traps this natural phenomenon, forming an artistic landscape that can be enjoyed for a long time 🖼️ 🔴 Transportation: ✔️ Driving: You can drive directly to the scenic area in over 3 hours. ✔️ High-speed train: 1 hour, then a 50-minute taxi ride. ✔️ The train station is about 9km closer to the scenic area than the high-speed railway station. 🟣 Opening hours: Scenic area: 6:00 AM–6:00 PM Fishing net casting: Every 15 minutes at Platform 1 Doushuai Island performance 🎭: 9:35 AM / 10:35 AM / 11:35 AM / 12:35 PM / 2:00 PM (usually closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) 🟠 Itinerary: One-day tour: 1️⃣ The scenic area has shuttle buses. Get off directly at Platform 1 to enjoy the view, then walk to Platform 2. You can get many angles of the Misty Little Dongjiang. There's a performance 🎭 at Platform 2, where you can take a boat to see the fishermen casting nets up close for a perfect photo op, or experience a unique bamboo raft ride through the mist~ 2️⃣ Highly recommend the lake tour route. Not only can you see the Misty Little Dongjiang, but you can also visit Doushuai Island to see the caves—it's known as an "underground labyrinth," after all! The unique karst landforms and giant stone pillars in the caves are like an adventure for kids! Performances are also concentrated in the morning! 3️⃣ You can have a nice rest on the boat ride back from the island, then have lunch after docking. 4️⃣ Next, you can head to Longjing Canyon. There are large and small loop trails to choose from. Watching the waterfalls is naturally refreshing! 5️⃣ There are souvenir shops at the scenic area entrance on your way back! 6️⃣ In the evening, there's the Dongjiang Flower Moon Night show provided by the scenic area to enjoy~ 🟢 Best time to visit: The mist is thick and stable from June to September each year. 5:30 AM–8:30 AM and 5:00 PM–7:00 PM are the times with the greatest temperature difference. It's even more beautiful on sunny days after it rains! 🟤 Food: 📌 Recommended: fish head with vermicelli, spicy chicken stew, barbecue, Yidongjiang rice wine 🍶, and fresh beer (brewed with Dongjiang Lake water! Super delicious, I'm still thinking about it 😋), grilled fish skewers, two ways to eat one fish... 🔵 Helpful tips: ✔️ Wear comfortable shoes and sunscreen. ✔️ Bring some snacks. ✔️ Restrooms are basically available at every platform; remember to go while waiting for the bus. ✔️ For accommodation, the entrance to the scenic area is the best choice—it's just a few minutes' walk away. ✔️ Ask the boat operator about the return point before getting off, and wait for the boat on time as needed. ✔️ Phoenix Island and Bailang Lakeside Road also have plenty of fun activities; if you have time, I recommend checking them out. · Thinking about it a thousand times isn't as good as seeing it for yourself~ gogogo! ·
