⛰️ Mount Roraima, Venezuela 🇻🇪🇧🇷🇬🇾

Mount Roraima is one of South America’s most extraordinary landscapes—a gigantic flat-topped mountain, or tepui, rising dramatically above the surrounding rainforest and savanna at the meeting point of Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana.

🌿 Why is Roraima so special?

🪨 Ancient Tepui – Its sandstone plateau is estimated to be around 2 billion years old, making it one of the oldest geological formations on Earth.

☁️ World Above the Clouds – The summit frequently sits among clouds and mist, creating an almost otherworldly atmosphere.

💦 Waterfalls & Natural Pools – Rainwater flows across the plateau, creating streams, waterfalls and crystal-clear pools among the dark rocks.

🌱 Unique Plants – The isolated tepui ecosystem contains many plants found nowhere else, including unusual carnivorous plants.

🗿 La Proa & El Maverick – Dramatic rock formations and viewpoints across the plateau offer spectacular scenery.

🥾 Getting there

The classic approach is from the Venezuelan side, usually beginning near Paraitepui. Reaching the summit requires a multi-day trek, generally around 6–10 days depending on the route and itinerary.

The trek involves:

· 🌳 Tropical forest
· 🌾 Open savanna
· 🏔️ Steep mountain slopes
· 💦 Rivers and waterfalls
· ☁️ Cloud-covered terrain
· 🪨 Rocky summit landscapes

🌤️ Best time to visit

December–April is generally considered a better period for trekking because conditions tend to be somewhat drier, although rain is possible throughout the year and is part of Roraima’s environment.

📍 Interesting fact

Roraima’s mysterious landscape is often associated with Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel The Lost World, although the novel’s fictional setting is not a literal depiction of the mountain.
