A Quick Stopover in the English Town — Marlow. — traveler post in Marlow

A Quick Stopover in the English Town — Marlow.

On the way to London, I stopped by Marlow to visit a friend. It is an elegant town on the River Thames in Buckinghamshire, England, known for its riverside trails, historic bridge, and boutique shops. After having lunch at The Marlow Donkey, here are some attractions to check out: Marlow Suspension Bridge, the iconic landmark of Marlow. Built in 1832, it's a fantastic spot for a walk and taking photos, offering sweeping views of the River Thames, the town, and All Saints Church in the distance. All Saints Church stands on a small hill right next to the suspension bridge and is the highlight of the Marlow skyline. Built in the 19th century, the church features a towering spire about 50 meters high. The interior is peaceful and solemn, making it perfect for a quiet visit. Marlow Lock and riverside trail, one of the historic locks on the River Thames, is a great vantage point to watch boats passing through the gates. Surrounded by lush green lawns, walking paths, and benches, it's highly recommended for a riverside stroll or bike ride to soak up the English countryside scenery. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Visit Buckinghamshire now. Buckinghamshire offers many places to visit and things to do. Some are listed below. Henley-on-Thames Henley-on-Thames is a charming riverside town known for its strong rowing heritage and peaceful atmosphere. Whether you’re watching rowers glide along the Thames or taking a gentle walk by the water, the town has a calm, inviting feel. The high street is full of independent shops, cosy cafés, and traditional stores, making browsing enjoyable. Henley is also great for dog walkers, with plenty of scenic riverside paths and meadows. Families can enjoy the well-equipped kids’ park, while visitors interested in history can take in the beautiful St. Mary’s Church or admire the views from the iconic Henley Bridge. Just outside the town, Danesfield House stands proudly with its stunning grounds and architecture, adding a sense of grandeur to the area. Marlow Marlow is a stylish and welcoming town that blends high-street favourites with quirky independent shops, making it perfect for a relaxed browse or a day out. It is a great place to pause, unwind, and enjoy the slow pace of the riverside, ideal for grabbing a coffee and watching the world go by. Families love the large play park by the river, complete with a café so adults can relax while the kids explore. Popular places to eat include The Ivy Marlow Garden, Giggling Squid, and local favourites like The Oarsman. Higginson Park and the Thames Path offer peaceful walking routes that make Marlow feel like the perfect escape, whether you are visiting briefly or staying for the whole afternoon. Oxford Oxford is a city packed with history, culture, and striking architecture. Its famous landmarks such as the Radcliffe Camera, Christ Church College, and the Bodleian Library make it feel like stepping into another era. Visitors can explore world-class museums like the Ashmolean or the Pitt Rivers, wander through the iconic Covered Market, or take a relaxing punt along the river. For shopping, the Westgate Centre offers a huge range of brands, restaurants, and rooftop views, while the surrounding streets are dotted with small independent shops and cafés. The train station sits just outside the main centre, and a short bus ride takes you straight to the heart of the city, making Oxford easy and convenient to visit. Windsor Windsor is best known as the home of the Royal Family, with Windsor Castle standing proudly over the town. The area around the castle is full of character, featuring cobbled streets, boutique shops, historic buildings, and a lively atmosphere. The town is easy to reach thanks to two nearby train stations, Windsor & Eton Central and Windsor & Eton Riverside, both just a short walk from the main attractions. Visitors can enjoy the expansive Long Walk in Windsor Great Park, take peaceful riverside strolls, or cross over to Eton for even more history and charm. Windsor blends royal heritage with modern town life, making it an unforgettable place to explore.

Visit Marlow

Visit marlow now. A charming place based in Buckinghamshire. A great place to go if you just want to take a moment to relax by the river, browse the shops or go for a long walk via the river towards Henley. Always things going on. There is also a lovely cafe and park for the children, with a ca park and local amenities nearby. A great place to go to spot wildlife and rowers. Things in the shops can be slightly dearer than in other places, but the quality of what you get is so much better. Would highly recommend coming to visit Marlow.

Windsor Castle

Getting from London to Windsor by bus (702 green line) is very convenient, even without taking the train. Photography is prohibited inside the church and castle. Seeing Queen Mary's Toy House reminded me of the inspiration for many miniature landscape designs in China. I personally think it's well worth a visit. Buying tickets is also very convenient. If you want to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony, enter the castle around 1 PM to find a good spot.

LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort

Tickets were issued quickly and the price was reasonable. A must-do for LEGO fans! You can take the 702 direct bus from Victoria Bus Station 7 for three pounds. The two-hour journey includes onboard charging stations and Wi-Fi. This bus also stops at Windsor Castle, so you can head there first.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London

Having visited the Harry Potter studios in Tokyo before, I was familiar with the earlier parts. The difference was that the London studio included an exhibit on Gringotts Castle, and during our visit, there were some Death Eater performances, which were quite entertaining. Finally, the entire Hogwarts Castle wasn't just an exhibit; it also featured a light and shadow show. If I were to personally recommend visiting the Harry Potter studios for the first time, I'd suggest going to London. Firstly, the language is more familiar to Chinese people, and secondly, there's more interaction. Also, in terms of transportation, it's a 20-minute walk from Uston Station to Watford Junction Station, where there's a free shuttle bus to the studios, which is very convenient.

St George's Chapel

A must-visit chapel in Windsor Castle, which is included in the entrance ticket of Windsor Castle. It is managed by the church. The chapel is very high and well maintained. You can refer to and get relevant information on the audio guide. But taking pictures inside is not allowed. So I bought a 2018 edition of "The Biography of Queen Victoria" in its gift department as a souvenir. I also took a photo of its promotional photo in the "Castle Introduction" at the entrance when entering the castle, and also took a postcard of it.

The British Museum

The British Museum was definitely a highlight of my London trip. It was well worth spending a whole afternoon there, and I feel like I'd go back again! A special thank you to my guide today, Diana; she was professional, reliable, and her explanations were engaging, patient, and entertaining, adding a wonderful surprise to my museum visit.

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

Beautiful garden in the autumn seasons where you can see ducks and squirrels around. Beautiful gardens in a huge garden. The Japanese gate was iconic. And the Chinese tower was iconic too.

Eton College

This school, named "Public School", is actually a private secondary school. The original intention of Henry VI to name it "Public School" was to provide free education for poor students, so that poor children could also enter the school as a preparatory school for entering King's College of Cambridge University. But because it was run too well, Eton College gradually became the most famous aristocratic school in the UK, which was completely contrary to the purpose of King Henry VI's school. You can often see study tours organized by domestic private schools at Eton College, but they can only look outside like independent tourists. Eton College is a training place for the British royal family, political and economic elites. It has produced 20 British prime ministers such as former British Prime Minister Cameron, as well as poet Shelley and economist Keynes. It is also the alma mater of Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry, the heirs to the British throne.

Buckingham Palace

After visiting Windsor Castle and Chatsworth House (Darcy Estate), we then visited Buckingham Palace. If you could only visit one palace in the UK, it would have to be Buckingham Palace. Photography is not allowed inside the royal palaces, as is the case with Windsor Castle, so we could focus on the guided tour. The gift shop after the Buckingham Palace tour has some limited-edition items available only there, making great souvenirs. I bought a Buckingham Palace + Royal Horse Stables combo ticket. The product page stated that visiting the Royal Horse Stables allowed direct entry to Buckingham Palace, but this wasn't actually the case. The State Rooms and the Royal Horse Stables are exchanged at two separate locations, not far apart. However, the ticket exchange and verification are handled by different people, and the verification personnel strictly adhere to the reserved time. The Royal Horse Stables houses the Golden Carriage used exclusively for coronation ceremonies, which is worth seeing; there are also carriages for tourists to ride in and take photos.
